Ellyse didn’t bother changing her clothes and went to the mansion wearing her pink striped pajamas. She didn’t care, after all, she’s only going there to discuss things with Kai.

When she entered the house, it was already dark. It was easy to get in even if the maids were sleeping since their door had thumb print recognition.

She silently walked up the stairs to Kai’s study where she found him sitting on his swivel chair sternly. Both his elbows were sitting on its arm

rests and his fingers were intertwined together.

Without a word, Ellyse closed the door behind her, it was already past 10 pm, Kai was still wearing the same clothes he wore when he met with Agatha. A white button down and black pants.

Kai moved the papers toward her with his index and middle finger.

“Divorce?” He craned his head to the right.

She gulped harshly before slowly nodding her head, “Have you signed-“

“Have you lost your mind?” He didn’t shout, he never shouts. But something in his tone carried anger and something she couldn’t name.

Ellyse could feel it, the intensity of his confusion. However, she was reminded of what she saw earlier today, and how this man, whom she thought would be elated to divorce her, was with his ex girlfriend.

“No, I am simply giving you what you want,” I answer, hinting no emotions.

Kai raises a brow, “Is this one of your antics to gain my attention, Ellyse?” She couldn’t believe him! He’s doubting her!

“Sign the papers, Kai,” She didn’t care about what he thought of her anymore. All she wanted was to get out of this house as soon as possible. She didn’t want to see his face ever again.

Kai flipped thought the pages with his reading glasses, his eyes scanning each paragraph like a hawk before he removed his glasses to massage the bridge of his nose, firmly closing his eyes.

She has never seen Kai this bothered, let alone stressed because she wanted to divorce him.

“A joint custody?” He asks me.

Ellyse nods but deep inside, she’s astonished with everything she’s seeing! Kai…has never shown this much emotions in the last 6 years they were together! This is the first time, and she hated herself for feeling some type of way.

“Have you thought about what Claire would feel?” He asks her. Of course she has, she thought of it over and over again until she felt guilty.

She never wanted Claire to have divorced parents, but if she stayed in this relationship, she’d ultimately lose herself in the process.

“I plan to make things easy for Claire. I don’t intend to take her away from you, I won’t shock her either. I’ll transition her into living with me slowly,” Ellyse explained in the most calmest tone.

Kai placed the papers on his desk before standing up. He circled around the desk, leaning his back on its edge before crossing his arms in front of his chest.

Ellyse looked at Kai with the same intensity, not breaking eye contact. Unlike before, where she would look down and submit to him.

“You’re upset about something,” He stated like it’s a fact.

Instead of lashing out and crying like before, Ellyse only gave Kai a brief smile.

“I have been upset about multiple things already, Kai. Nothing’s new,” How she managed to let out those words without stuttering made Kai feel uneasy.

“Which is why you want a divorce?” She nodded.

Kai also nodded, looking away. “Sure,” He answered curtly.

Something in Kai felt like Ellyse was bluffing, that she was doing this to gain his attention, to rattle him, to make him feel like he has to do something to stop her from divorcing him.

However, as he watched Ellyse look at him with nothing but eagerness and determination in her eyes, he felt bothered.

He turned around to pick up the divorce papers, scanning them one last time before taking a deep breath.

“I’ll have my lawyers look through these first, and then I’ll send you my terms,” He places the papers back to its original place before unbuttoning three buttons from his dress shirt.

Ellyse only nodded and said nothing else before turning her back to leave him, for real this time.

Ellyse was lying on their bed alone while hearing the shower coming from the bathroom. Kai was still busy bathing and she’s been trying her best to fall asleep but for some reason, her mind was all over the place. The memory of whatever Victoria told her never left her mind, it stayed and made a fortress for itself. Then, she heard it. He opened the door and started walking to the bed. He fluffed up the mattress first before she felt the bed sink a little from his weight. “When’s the last time you spoke to Agatha?” she couldn’t help herself. It’s the only thing she thought of at dinner. Silence was all she heard, then he sighed heavily. “Before the trip, why?” He asked. She licked her lips and gulped harshly, swallowing the growing lump inside her throat. She hated herself for still being heavily affected by whatever he’s doing with his ex. Maybe all the trauma and pa

  • Fractured Promises   Chapter 113

“What is it, Ellyse?” He reiterated. Her throat ran dry as she stared at him, fear creeping into her skin. She had imagined how it would be like if she told him straight up about her pregnancy. What she would say, how she would say it and how she’ll reveal the truth. But in reality, she was left dumbfounded. She stared at him as if the answers were written all over her eyes. For some reason, she couldn’t muster up the courage to blurt out the words—to tell the truth. She shook her head, tears threatening to fall. “I’m sorry, I can’t do it.” “What? What do you mean you can’t do it?” His voice echoed through her ears as she stood up, her heart was racing and she couldn’t think straight. “I just…I can’t. I am so sorry, Kai,” And then she fled to their room where she locked herself. She kept crying, she couldn’

“The wedding preparations are already underway. Do you have any requests? A motif you’d like, perhaps?” Eliana, Ellyse’s mother asked. They were eating at the Laurent mansion, as gathered together to talk about wedding plans. For some reason, Kai was peculiarly silent. Ellyse was the one answering the questions. “Well, we haven’t spoken about what motif we wanted. As long as we get married as soon as possible, that’s good enough for us,” She answered her mom. “What if we do a white wedding, yes? It’s traditional but I think it fits well with our bride and groom!” Victoria suggested. She was very thrilled to know that both of them were getting married. “White is good,” Kai answered briefly while chewing his food. Ellyse looked at him, trying to read his expression. Something was obviously bothering him but she doesn’t know what it is. The sudden shift in his mood

Ka and Ellyse were left inside the villa after lunch. She hesitated a lot at first but she didn’t have a choice. Plus, she’s not interested in going around the island that much. She thought that maybe, having that alone time with Kai would lessen her fear of telling him about her pregnancy. While she stayed inside their room, Kai was at the living area, working. He had his eyeglasses on and was typing something on his laptop while his brows were furrowed. He looked very busy and occupied so she didn’t want to bother him. She stayed inside their room for a good hour before boredom became evident. She sighed heavily, stood up and walked to the bathroom to check out her bump. It a little more prominent now unlike before, but she’s still able to cover it with her clothes. She’s certain th

The itinerary for their last day was purely to explore the island more. George and Victoria were most looking forward for it because that meant not getting themselves wet. Meanwhile, Ellyse and Kai woke up separated unlike yesterday. She was grateful to wake up without her ex-husband embracing her. Their morning went normal. Victoria ordered room service so they wouldn’t have to get ready in the morning for breakfast so majority of the morning was spent inside the villa. “Mom, can I swim at the pool after this?” Claire asked while munching on her pancake. “You’re not sick of swimming yet, Claire?” Kai joked. “Never! I love to swim, daddy!” She giggled happily. Their vacation really made Claire happier than ever. There’s never been a day where she woke up in a bad mood. “Alright, I’ll accompany you after this,” Ellyse stated while caressin

“I had so much fun, grandma! I can’t believe we only have two days left,” Claire went back to their villa skipping. Her smiles were so wide that it reached her eyes. “Oh don’t you worry dear, we’ll definitely go to another beach vacation very soon,” George assured her while caressing her hair. “Yes, please! I can’t wait! I want to go snorkeling again, grandpapa!” She replied happily, making Victoria chuckle. “You’re really fond of the beach, huh?” She asked her granddaughter. “I just love the ocean and the sand! It’s the best thing in the world!” She beamed. Meanwhile, Kai and Ellyse silently went inside their own room. They already had dinner so they were already feeling quite sleepy. “Are you going to shower first?” Kai asked while unbuttoning his polo.
