Even the sound of the rain had changed while waiting for an answer from Dean. It wasn’t pounding intensely anymore—it was softer now, steady, like it had grown tired too.

Dean hadn’t said anything for nearly a full minute. The silence stretched so long it started to ache.

I leaned back, crossed my arms, and stared straight ahead at the rippling reflections of headlights passing by on the wet road. “You’re not answering,” I said finally. “Does that mean I’m right?”

He shook his head, quickly. “No, that’s not it—Sav, come on. I’m not trying to manipulate you.”

“That’s exactly what a manipulator would say.”

“God, you make everything so difficult.” He let out a rough sigh and ran a hand through his hair. His knuckles were pale. “I know I screwed up. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. But I’m trying to make it right.”

“Make it right?” I repeated, my voice a whisper drowned out by the noise outside. “You can’t make right something that’s already rotten.”

He opened his mouth to speak,

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Clear My Name

Chapter 197: Clear My Name Savannah The moment those words left Chloe’s mouth, my ears didn’t just ring, they collapsed. A sharp, throbbing pressure swallowed all sound, turning everything into a distant, suffocating noise. My own heartbeat was suddenly the only thing I could hear, pounding against my ribs like it was trying to claw its way out. But her words—those insane, impossible words—kept replaying in my head even though I couldn’t hear anything else. I could still see her lips moving, could still see the twisted smirk stretching across her face, but I couldn’t understand a thing. Everything blurred. Everything tilted.Kingston… touched Chloe? No. No. No.That wasn’t real. She couldn’t possibly mean what she said. I would have known. I would have seen something. How could she say something like that? How could something so monstrous have happened right beside me without my knowing? My chest tightened dangerously. Air refused to come in.“Savannah… baby, breathe.” Roman’s voic

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    This Shirt Is Expensive

Chapter 196: This Shirt Is Expensive Savannah “Chloe?” The name slipped out of my mouth before I could tame the disbelief clawing up my throat. For weeks—maybe months—I’d secretly clung to the hunch that she might be alive. That perhaps she had staged her disappearance, that she wasn’t dead in a ditch somewhere. A dark, guilty part of me had even imagined finding her in a place exactly like this: a cheap, dingy apartment filled with lowlife criminals. But imagining something and seeing it were two different monsters entirely. My world tilted.Because there she was—my sister—sitting cross-legged on the bed like she hadn’t torn our family apart piece by piece. She smirked. “Hello, Sav.”My breath caught in my chest. “You’re alive. You’re—Chloe, you’re alive.”She rolled her eyes like I’d just told her the sky was blue. Her arms folded across her chest, her posture annoyingly nonchalant. She wore a fitted white top and dark blue skinny jeans. Nothing about her was disheveled or distre

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Go On, Baby

Chapter 195: Go On, Baby Savannah I didn’t know what kind of answer I expected when I looked Paula in the eye and asked, “Where do you know me from?”But I definitely didn’t expect her to freeze the way she did—chin tucked, eyes darting down my body as though searching for a lie to cling to, then slowly shifting toward one of the doors in the apartment. Her throat bobbed, a thin tremor jolting through her shoulders before she shook her head.“Nothing,” she said too quickly, brushing imaginary dust off her shirt. “I meet a lot of people daily. Please leave. I don’t want any trouble.”I stepped closer, fury already gathering like heat behind my ribs. “Where the fuck is Zane? Call your brother or we’ll alert the authorities. I bet you’ve got drugs in here, Paula.”Her eyes widened. Not dramatically but just the slightest flare, enough to give her away. She glanced again toward that same door. “I don’t have his number,” she muttered, her gaze flicking over to Roman with something like c

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Where Is Your Brother?

Chapter 194: Where Is Your Brother?Savannah My stomach twisted so tightly I could barely breathe through it as we drove toward the address Cole had sent. Every street we passed, every red light we stopped at, every bump in the road made the dread in my chest thicken. I kept telling myself to calm down, but calm felt like some mythical creature I couldn’t touch anymore.Roman had bought a house by the beach in Capri. A gorgeous, huge thing—sun-washed walls, sleek lines, enough space for a big family vacation one day. I should’ve been excited. I should’ve at least been able to appreciate the effort, the intention, the sweetness behind it.But dread wrapped around my ribs and squeezed too hard for me to enjoy anything. The only moment I’d felt truly at peace was yesterday, while we were still in the air. Up there, with Roman beside me, it felt like it was just us suspended above the whole world. No worries. No threats. No Zane-shaped holes in the horizon. He’d made love to me until my

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Beautiful, Reckless Trouble

Chapter 193: Beautiful, Reckless Trouble ReeseI’ve met bold girls. Forward girls. Girls who say what they want and don’t waste time circling around it. But nothing—absolutely nothing—comes close to Elizabeth walking into the kitchen, planting herself in front of me with all the audacity of a woman who has never known what it means to be told no, and saying:“I want to have sex with you because you're extremely attractive and I think it'll look good on my list that I fucked Reese Blackwood. Is that reason enough?” She said it like she was asking for a glass of water. Like she was placing an order. Like she was doing me a favor by telling me ahead of time.I just stared at her for a second, cereal halfway to my mouth, trying to decide if I’d misheard her or if she was genuinely that unfiltered.Turns out she was genuinely that unfiltered.“Just that?” I asked, lowering the spoon. “So you go around propositioning every attractive guy you see?”She didn’t blink. She didn’t fidget. She

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    How Old Are You?

Chapter 192: How Old Are You?ReeseI didn’t see Elizabeth for a few hours after Savannah and my brother left. Honestly, it was a relief. Yesterday morning I'd been so reckless and carried away that I nearly fucked her. Thank God I managed to stop myself. What was I even thinking? So I hid in the kitchen like a sensible adult man in survival mode, halfway through my bowl of cereal, when she finally walked in.She didn’t knock. Didn’t clear her throat. Didn’t glance around shyly like someone who’d almost had sex with a stranger in this very house a day ago.She just walked in—hair in a messy ponytail, glasses sliding down her nose, oversized shirt hanging dangerously off her shoulder—and asked one question. “Aren’t you going to say anything to me?”No greeting. No warm-up. Just a straight-up confrontation at ten in the morning. To be honest, I knew this moment was coming. Girls like her always do this thing—they treat a single makeout session like it’s fate. Suddenly we’re spirituall
