Roman

I felt it the second her body stiffened in my arms. The shift was small, almost imperceptible to anyone else, but to me it was deafening. Her heartbeat thudded against my chest like a trapped bird desperate to break free. The rhythm was frantic, uneven, betraying everything her lips wouldn’t say out loud.

Savannah was scared. Of me. Of what I'd just told her.

And she had every right to be.

I had disappeared without a word, then returned with blood under my nails and a dead body that I created. If I had told her the truth from the beginning—if I confessed that I would be gone because I was going to hunt down her abuser, staining my hands with his blood—she’d run. She would look at me with the same haunted terror I’d seen once before in her eyes, the night she told me everything about him. About what had been done to her.

That’s why I didn’t tell her.

She didn’t belong in this world. My father’s world. Mine. Ours.

Her innocence, her softness, they were already fragile threads bar

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    As You Wish

Chapter 225: As You Wish ReeseRoman and his fiancée were already on the road to her hometown. If everything unfolded the way he planned, we’d be heading to Blackwood Manor within the next few days.Which meant I was going home. As promised to my brother, Alex. And technically, it also meant I would probably never see Elizabeth again.Maybe she’d come with us to the manor. Maybe not. Roman might change his mind after everything—after Serena, after the mess trailing behind us like smoke. But even if Elizabeth did come, it would be different. Controlled. Watched. I'm sure Roman would send her away before things even began going wrong. So yes—as the selfish bastard that I am—I decided to take what she’d been offering me so freely.Just once.I lifted my hand and knocked on her door.“Reese?” Her voice floated through the wood, soft and surprised. “Is that you?”“Open up, Elizabeth,” I said quietly. “It’s me.”“Give me a second.”I heard her footsteps, light and hurried, then the click o

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    I Won

Chapter 224: I Won Savannah My nerves were a wreck. Not the cute, fluttery kind. The ugly kind—the kind that made my palms slick with sweat and my chest feel too tight for proper breathing. My entire body felt like it was bracing for impact, like I was standing on the edge of something I couldn’t yet see but knew would change everything.Beside me, Roman drove like we were headed to brunch. One hand loose on the wheel. The other rested casually on his thigh. He was whistling under his breath—some old tune I didn’t recognize, something light and almost cheerful. The complete opposite of the storm raging inside me.I watched him from the corner of my eye, incredulous. “You’re not nervous?” I asked suddenly. He glanced over, the corner of his mouth lifting in a lazy smile before his eyes returned to the road. “No. Why would I be? We're only going to see your parents.” I let out a soft, humorless laugh. “Why wouldn’t you be?” I countered. “This trip alone is reason enough. We don’t kno

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Play Fair

Chapter 223: Play Fair Roman Each step up the stairs felt like I was hauling a hundred weights chained to my spine.Randall.The name pulsed behind my eyes like a warning light that refused to shut off. If that lanky, sociopathic bastard was the one manning the cameras, then I’d bet my life he’d already wiped every second of footage that put Serena Matthews anywhere near those grounds. Randall didn’t just clean messes. He erased truths—especially the ones that inconvenienced our father.“Bloody son of a bitch,” I muttered under my breath as my fingers curled around the handle of our bedroom door.I twisted it slowly, carefully, easing it open so the hinges wouldn’t creak. Savannah needed her sleep. God knew she needed it more than anyone right now. Paula was locked in the guest room where she’d stay and I had the key for a reason. Trust was a luxury I couldn’t afford anymore, and Paula had not earned it. Not fully.Chloe would sleep right where she was. That bus should be comfortabl

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Alexander

Chapter 222: Alexander ReeseA stray. That’s what he’d called her.A fucking stray. As if Serena Matthews had been a dog wandering the street or a cat seeking affection—like she wasn’t a living, breathing human being whose life he’d sliced out of existence without a flicker of hesitation. A girl who probably laughed, who dreamed, who deserved to see tomorrow. He’d tossed her aside like she was disposable. And that word. That damn word. It stuck inside my skull like a parasite.Roman hadn’t moved since I said it. He sat perfectly still, elbows on his knees, staring at the floor as if it might confess something to him. His jaw flexed once. Twice. Then nothing. Silence so loud I could hear his thoughts gnashing against each other. The clock on the wall ticked. Ticked again. Ticked louder. Then, finally—“We’re going to New Hope tomorrow, Reese.”His voice was low. Controlled. Too controlled. The kind of calm that meant violence was two breaths away.“We’re going to find out what Jace k

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    The Wrong Trunk

Chapter 221: The Wrong TrunkReeseRoman rarely looks afraid. He’s the one who laughs at danger, who smirks in the face of chaos, who doesn’t flinch when The General raises hell. But right now, the way he’s staring at me like he’s waiting to hear the verdict that might shatter the floor beneath him… yeah. He’s scared. But not of our father. He's scared because he suspects I murdered Serena. Or had something to do with her death. “Reese,” he says, voice low, tight. “What do you mean by that?”I swallow, my throat already burning. “I knew her,” I whisper. “I met Serena Matthews. But I didn’t know what she was. Not until she died.”Roman leaned forward, impatient. “Where? How? When did you—just talk, dammit!”“I am talking!” I snap, louder than I intended. “I’m saying something, aren’t I?!”“Well get on with it then!”“For fuck’s sake!” I drag both hands through my hair, pacing. “You’re driving me fucking nuts, Roman!”He shuts up, but his eyes don’t leave me. Paula sits still—too still

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    The Serena Case

Chapter 220: The Serena Case Reese“The Serena Case.” Those three words hit me like a punch to the ribs—sharp, unexpected, meant to hurt. Even after Roman stopped talking, they echoed in my head, circling, taunting, refusing to let me breathe.I tried to keep my face neutral, casual even, because that’s what I do when shit gets bad. I joke. I pretend. I deny. But inside, my chest tightened until the pressure clawed up my throat. Most people go through life thinking they’ve got problems — bills, breakups, heartache, loneliness. Me? My entire existence is one giant problem sealed with the Blackwood name. I didn’t ask to be the son of General Blackwood. Didn’t audition. Didn’t sign up. Yet here I was, stuck with it like a brand I could never scrub off.But Serena? If the Serena he meant was the Serena I knew… then I was screwed. Utterly, hopelessly, catastrophically screwed.“Reese.” Roman’s voice cut through my spiraling thoughts. “Did you hear what I just said?”I blinked. Then force
