Chesca Kyrene gave everything to her marriage. She loved her husband Ethan with all her heart, was a loyal, devoted wife, and built their life together from nothing. But three years into their marriage, she discovered the painful truth: Ethan was cheating on her with another woman, someone he claimed he “loved more”. Heartbroken and betrayed, Chesca chose to walk away, even though it meant losing her home, her status, and the life she had dreamed of. She started over from scratch, facing judgment from people who thought she was the one at fault, struggling to survive alone, and healing from the pain of being replaced. Just when she thought love was never meant for her, she met Damian Alistair — a serious, kind, and loyal man who showed her what real love truly is. But the struggle isn’t over. Ethan refuses to let her go, trying to manipulate her, lying to everyone to make himself look like the victim, and even begging her to come back when his relationship falls apart. Chesca now has to fight for her self-worth, learn to trust again, and choose between the man who broke her, and the man who taught her how to love herself again.

Chaos 1

Three years ago, I married Ethan Reyes, the man I promised to spend my whole life with. We started with absolutely nothing—just two young people with big dreams, working side by side to build everything we had. We lived in a tiny rented room back then, ate cheap meals, and counted every peso we earned, but I was happy. Because I had him. I believed that as long as we loved each other, nothing else mattered. I loved him with everything I had—my heart, my time, my youth, my everything. I was the wife who waited for him every night, who cooked his favorite meals, who listened to his problems, who supported every decision he made. I thought he felt the same way.

Our third wedding anniversary was supposed to be special. I saved up for weeks just to buy him the watch he had been eyeing for months. I took the day off work, cleaned our small apartment until it sparkled, cooked all the dishes he loved, and decorated the dining table with candles and flowers. I waited for hours, excited and nervous, just like I was on our wedding day.

When the front door finally opened, I jumped up with a wide smile. “Happy anniversary, Ethan!”

But he didn’t smile back. He walked in, looking tired and distant, not even glancing at the food or the decorations I worked so hard on. He barely looked at me. “Yeah. Happy anniversary,” he mumbled, walking straight past me to sit on the sofa.

My smile slowly faded. Lately, this had become normal. He came home late every night, always had excuses about being busy at work, barely talked to me, and pulled away every time I tried to touch him or hug him. I told myself it was just stress. I told myself he was working hard for our future, just like he always did. I told myself not to be too sensitive.

“I made everything you like,” I said softly, walking over to him. “And I got you that watch you wanted. Can we eat now? Please? Just for tonight?”

He sighed, loud and annoyed, like I was just a burden he had to carry. “Chesca, I said I’m tired. Can’t you just leave me alone for once? You’re always clinging, always asking for attention… it’s exhausting.”

Those words stung, sharp and painful, but I swallowed my tears. “Did I do something wrong? You’ve been so different lately… you hardly speak to me anymore. I miss you, Ethan. I miss us.”

He didn’t answer. He just stood up, grabbed his phone from the table, and walked into our bedroom, locking the door behind him.

I stood alone in the middle of the living room, my heart aching so bad I could barely breathe. I wanted to understand. I wanted to know what changed. And then I noticed—he left his other phone on the sofa. The one he always kept with him, the one he never let me touch, the one he said was only for work.

Curious and hurt, I picked it up. It wasn’t locked. He never locked his phone before, because he always said he had nothing to hide from me.

But what I saw broke me completely.

I opened his messages, and my hands started shaking so hard I almost dropped the device. Hundreds and hundreds of texts, sent to a contact named “Clara”, words that were full of love, full of longing, full of everything I wished he said to me.

“I wish I was with you instead of here. She’s so boring, so plain… you make me feel alive again.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll leave her soon. I don’t love her anymore. I only stay because it’s convenient for now.”

“She gave me everything, yes, but she has nothing left to give. You are the only one I want now.”

“Our anniversary today? It means nothing to me. I’m only pretending. I’d rather be with you than anywhere else.”

I dropped the phone. It fell to the floor with a loud crash, but I couldn’t hear anything over the sound of my own heart shattering into a million pieces.

The bedroom door opened. Ethan walked out, angry, ready to yell at me for making noise—until he saw my face, and the open messages glowing on the screen.

His expression didn’t turn guilty. It didn’t turn sorry. It just turned cold and annoyed, like I was the one who did something wrong.

“You read them, didn’t you?” he asked, like it was no big deal.

Tears streamed down my face, hot and endless. “Why, Ethan? Why? I gave you everything. We started from nothing together. I worked two jobs just to help you build your career. I loved you more than I love myself… how could you do this to me?”

He shrugged, like my pain meant nothing to him. “I fell out of love, Chesca. It happens. You changed. You became too ordinary, too predictable. Clara is different. She’s exciting, she understands me, she makes me happy—things you can’t do anymore.”

“Ordinary.” That word hurt more than all the cheating, more than all the lies. All the years I spent loving him, sacrificing for him, staying loyal to him… and he called me ordinary.

“Leave,” I said, my voice shaking but firm.

He raised an eyebrow, laughing coldly. “Excuse me? This house is under my name. Everything here is mine. Where will you go? You have no money saved, no job of your own, no family here. You have nothing without me, Chesca. You can’t survive out there alone.”

I wiped my tears and lifted my chin high. For the first time in three years, I saw him clearly. The man I loved was selfish, cruel, and unworthy of every bit of love I gave him.

“I may have nothing now,” I said steadily, looking him straight in the eye, “but I still have my pride. And I would rather be poor and alone, than stay with a cheater and a liar who doesn’t know my worth.”

I grabbed a small bag, threw only my clothes and a few important things inside, and walked toward the door.

“Go ahead then,” Ethan called out behind me, his voice full of mockery. “Don’t come crying back when you realize you can’t make it on your own. You’ll regret leaving me.”

I didn’t look back. I stepped out of the apartment, out of the life I built with him, out of the love that turned out to be nothing but a lie.

The night air was cold, and I had nowhere to go, no money in my pocket, no one to run to. My heart was breaking, and every step hurt like hell. But deep down, I knew I made the right choice. I chose myself. I chose my self-respect.

As I walked further away from the place I used to call home, I whispered a promise to myself: I will survive this. And one day, I will show him exactly what he threw away.
