Chapter 2

[This scene wasn't in the original novel! Wasn't the 'corrected plot' supposed to be the villainess getting desperate, chasing after the male lead, ruining the contract, and making him hate her?]

[No wonder he's the male lead's little brother. He's so handsome.]

So when Charles said he had arranged for someone to take care of me, he meant his younger brother, Jack Hansen?

The thought of someone outside the family seeing my skin hunger episode made me deeply embarrassed.

However, Jack simply wrapped his arms gently around me from behind.

"No one comforted you when it flared up? That's kind of heartbreaking."

The heat of his body felt unbelievably soothing.

Still, the last scraps of my rationality made me push him away.

There was no way I was going to become the cheating wife who got thrown out with nothing in the divorce.

For all I knew, this could be a setup between Charles and his brother, some elaborate act to get rid of me faster.

I shoved Jack out the door and slammed it shut. No matter how long he knocked outside, I refused to open it.

Eventually, I fell into a heavy sleep. By the time I woke up, it was already the next morning.

When I checked my phone, Charles had sent over a dozen messages.

I ignored all of them.

In the past, even being separated from him for two hours would have driven me crazy enough to bombard him with calls.

But things were different now.

I valued my life more.

Yesterday, I had managed to survive the episode by clinging to Charles's clothes.

But today, the rebound felt even worse.

I bit down hard on my lower lip, trying to use pain to suppress the unbearable itch crawling beneath my skin, trying to force myself to stay clear-headed.

A few hours later, I was crying.

In the two years we had been married, I had never suffered like this before.

During the day, I would cling to Charles, feeling up his abs and chest whenever I wanted. At night, no matter what I asked for, he indulged me every single time.

For two whole years, he had spoiled me until my appetite only grew bigger and bigger.

I turned on the TV.

Oakhaven News was broadcasting live coverage of Hansen Group president Charles securing a partnership with a major corporation from Stanton City.

His custom-tailored suit made him look impossibly refined. Beside him, Daisy followed closely in a pink business suit, her smile elegant and composed.

The livestream comments completely lost their minds.

['My wife isn't my weakness, she's my armor.' AHHHH this power-couple energy is EVERYTHING.]

[The height difference is killing me.]

Jealousy bubbled sourly in my chest.

I quickly forced the feeling back down.

I was just a disposable side character. If I wanted to stay alive, the only option was to stay far away from the male and female leads.

I tossed and turned miserably across the bed, soft whimpers escaping my throat.

Maybe I had accidentally pressed something on my phone, because suddenly Charles's voice came through the speaker.

"Amanda, why did it take you so long to call me back?"

I felt so awful I couldn't even speak. All I could do was continue making weak, breathless sounds that were easy to misunderstand.

The line went silent for two seconds.

Then he hung up.

A moment later, the news anchor announced that Hansen Group president Charles had abruptly boarded a flight back to Oakhaven.

Right then, the front door opened again.

Jack knocked lightly on my bedroom door.

"Hey, Amanda, it's me."

I was going insane.

The skin hunger was driving me out of my mind.

Jack was wearing a silk v-neck shirt so thin I could almost see the smooth skin hidden beneath the fabric.

I snapped.

I lunged at him and buried my face against his solid chest, clinging to him like someone cuddling a cat, unable to stop.

The corner of Jack's lips lifted slightly. He did not move, just let me hold him like that.

Tears streamed down my face.

After more than twenty hours of torment, I had finally found my 'cure.'

Just as I was sinking into the relief of skin contact, the smart lock at the front door clicked open again.

The comments flashing before my eyes went wild.

[Holy sh*t! The showdown is here. This is insane.]

[How does a throwaway villainess deserve this kind of love triangle? Our heroine hasn't even gotten anything yet!]

[This brother drama is way too entertaining.]

[Everyone trying to break up the official couple can get lost. This is obviously the male lead's plan to dump the annoying villainess faster.]

At the same moment, my phone lit up with a message from Charles.

[Amanda, I'm home.]

[Doesn't this make it even hotter? The female lead was always written as a villainess anyway. She got close to the male lead with ulterior motives, and now both of them are completely consumed by each other. Toxic romance at its finest!]Their perspectives were always... uniquely disturbing.Just then, Jack came back after changing clothes and started looking for me. Afraid that Herman might catch me eavesdropping, I hurried over to him first. However, my mind was in complete chaos.I could not decide whether I should tell Charles the truth. And even if I did... would he believe me?After all, Daisy was the heroine.I was just cannon fodder. The pretty idiot everyone in Oakhaven laughed at.Still, Charles's parents had always treated me well. Whenever they spent money on me, it was always in the millions. In the end, I stopped him and told him everything. To my surprise, Charles smiled. Not a forced smile, not an angry one.It was genuine. Relaxed. Almost delighted.Had Da

"I'll go with you now," I said with a nod.Mr. and Mrs. Allen immediately lit up with relief, as if afraid I might change my mind the next second. They hurriedly pushed Charles and Daisy toward the door. The one who reacted most strongly was Charles. He shot to his feet, his sharp profile turning ice-cold."I don't agree."Tears instantly welled in Daisy's eyes."Charles... don't you like me?"Mrs. Allen quickly chimed in, "Exactly, Charles. Daisy is beautiful and capable. Amanda only has a pretty face. How could she possibly compare to Daisy?"A vein throbbed at Charles's temple, as though he were forcing himself to stay calm. His dark eyes locked onto mine. After a long silence, he finally spoke."The Hansen Group's new business expansion is at a critical stage right now. There can't be any negative publicity at a time like this. Secrets never stay hidden forever. We'll discuss the divorce in half a month."Wasn't this supposed to be the man who would give up the prime Gla

Charles placed the leash in my hand, then intertwined his fingers with mine.I wanted to shake him off, but the little golden retriever was so excited it kept circling around me nonstop.Damn this fluffy little menace. How could something this furry be so dangerously charming?A faint smile appeared in Charles's eyes as he said coolly to Jack, "If you still can't learn basic boundaries with your sister-in-law, I'll send you back to the family estate so you can relearn some manners."Jack let out a mocking laugh. "Bro, Amanda said she's divorcing you. She told me not to call her sister-in-law anymore."Charles's grip on my hand tightened instantly."Ow!" I cried out. "Charles, you're hurting me!"Daisy stared at him in disbelief. "Mr. Hansen, you…"[Wait, since when is the female lead allergic to dog fur?][Is this novel a scam or what? The main couple's romance hasn't progressed at all. The male lead's eyes are basically glued to the villainess now. I'm dropping this story.]

I had a splitting headache and grabbed my suitcase, ready to leave.Only then did Jack finally get serious."I found a way to treat your skin hunger."According to him, skin hunger was not really an illness. It came from emotional needs going unmet for too long, from living without enough security or affection."My brother is unbelievable. If he can't even ease his wife's anxiety, what's the point of having a husband like that?"He complained bitterly about Charles the entire time. His suggestion was to start by raising a pet, slowly using physical closeness and companionship to desensitize me and help me overcome the condition.I was genuinely tempted by the idea, so I went with Jack to a high-end pedigree pet auction to pick out an animal I liked. What I did not expect was to run straight into Charles and Daisy there.Talk about bad luck.I immediately turned to head back to my seat, but Daisy secretly followed after me.She stepped in front of me, a mocking smile spreadin

Charles's expression darkened instantly."Amanda, some things can't just be brushed off as words said in anger. The Hansen family has never had a divorce."I was furious. He was out there fooling around with other women, yet somehow I, the wife who had stood by him all these years, wasn't even allowed to walk away? How could someone be this unreasonable?"Then you can be the first!"I reached for the car door, ready to get out, but Charles had clearly lost his patience too. He tightened his grip and held me firmly in place. His lips brushed lightly against my ear."Baby, you haven't touched me in two days."I know you're craving it. Let your husband take care of you."My skin hunger was acting up again.Charles knew exactly how to tease me until all my defenses fell apart.By the time the car pulled back into the Hansen residence, he had already carried me straight into the bedroom. The comments flooded across my vision again.[I seriously can't stand this filthy male lea

Charles strode into the bedroom in a hurry. The moment he saw me lying on the bed alone, the tension on his face finally eased. Before I could speak, Daisy appeared behind him."Mr. Hansen, there's still a contract that needs your approval, and the proposal from Stanton City has already been sent to your email."Charles paused for a moment. "Amanda, I'll come back and keep you company later."I cut him off immediately. "No need. Go do your work. I don't need you here."Something unreadable flickered through his eyes."Stop pretending to be tough. The moment I wasn't home, you dragged all my clothes out."Be good and wait for me to come back."My face burned red with anger. Did he really enjoy embarrassing me in front of Daisy that much?I grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. "I said I don't need you."Then I stormed over and slammed the bedroom door shut.Just before the door closed, I caught Daisy glancing at me. Her eyes were filled with confidence, like victory was alrea
