WE NEED RULES

The car ride back to the mansion was quiet.

I sat with the thick folder of property listings on my lap, flipping through pages without really seeing them. My mind was still spinning from the morning at Valentino Enterprises, from the building to the people in it and everything Kai had said to those executives in the conference room. It was a lot to take in.

Reed had left us at the entrance with his usual dry comment and a small wave. Now it was just Kai and me in the back seat, the city sliding

  • From Discarded Wife, Now the Untouchable Heiress    THE TRAITOR IS VOSS

The traitor was Lieutenant Voss.It took less than four hours to confirm it.Reed had narrowed it down to three possibilities by morning. By lunch, I knew it was Voss. Six years of loyal service, and the man had sold us out to the Moretti family for a bigger cut and a promise of power. The evidence was clean. Unmistakable.I handled it personally because betrayal this close to the inner circle was dealt with quietly, in the soundproofed room beneath the east wing of the mansion.Voss sat tied to a chair in the middle of the room when I walked in, the basement room smelled of concrete and blood. Sweat dripped down his face and eyes wide with terror. Six years this man had worked for me. Six years of loyalty, or so I had thought.I stood in front of him, sleeves rolled up, hands still clean for now.“You fed the Moretti’s information about the Cheng shipment, and tried to get rid of us.” I said quietly with no anger in my voice for now. “You thought they would protect you right? You wer

She obeyed instantly.Chloe sank to her knees in front of me with a pleased, almost reverent smile. Her dark hair fell over one shoulder as she looked up at me with wide, eager eyes, lips already parted in anticipation. The dim lighting cast soft shadows across her face, highlighting the flush on her cheeks and the way her chest rose and fell with excitement.“Tell me what you want,” she whispered again, her hands sliding up my thighs.I looked down at her. She looked skilled, the kind of woman who knew exactly how to make a man feel like a king for a few hours. But all I felt was a hollow ache.“Open your mouth,” I said, my voice low and commanding. Her breath hitched. She licked her lips once, then opened for me obediently, tongue sliding out just enough to tease. Her hands moved to work my belt, unbuckling it slowly, deliberately, like she wanted to savor every second. The zipper came down with a quiet rasp. She freed me and her eyes widened at the size of my length which was alrea

Reed noticed. He shot me a glare and leaned over slightly to speak.“Boss, it’s been a long day and you look like you need a distraction. Go upstairs and clear your head.”I glanced at him and he raised an eyebrow, this sarcastic bastard. “And she’s hot too.” He added.Chloe leaned closer, her lips near my ear. “I can make you feel good,” she whispered. “No strings. Just pleasure, let me take care of you tonight.”I stared at my glass for a long moment, thinking about everything and nothing at the same time. Then I stood up.“VIP room,” I said to her.Her eyes lit up and she followed me without hesitation, practically vibrating with happiness at being chosen by Kai Valentino. We took the private elevator up. The moment the doors closed, she pressed herself against me, her hands sliding over my chest. I let her. When we reached the VIP suite, I pushed her inside and closed the door behind us.She turned to me with a seductive smile, already reaching for the zipper of her dress.“Tell m

~~ Kai's POV ~~The elevator doors opened on the top floor of Reeves’ casino tower, and I stepped out with Reed at my side and four of my men behind us. The air smelled of expensive cologne, cigar smoke, and whiskey.Reeves was waiting in his overdecorated office, standing behind a desk that was meant to intimidate. He was a big man who had gotten soft around the middle from too many years of easy money and political protection. He smiled when he saw me, the kind of smile that didn’t reach his eyes.“Kai Vale,” he said, spreading his arms like we were old friends. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”I didn’t smile back. I never did in these meetings.I walked straight to the chair opposite his desk and sat down without being invited. Reed remained standing near the door. My men positioned themselves along the walls, silent and watchful.“You’re three months behind on two-point-eight million,” I said calmly, crossing one leg over the other. “I’ve been patient, Reeves. More patient than I

By morning two more suppliers had cancelled on me.I was still in bed when the first message came in. I read it half asleep and sat up straight. By the time I got downstairs the second one had arrived. I sat at the breakfast table with my phone in my hand and watched the third one come in while my coffee went cold in front of me.“Regret to inform you….” “...unable to move forward at this time.” “We wish you the best.”All of them were polite, saying nothing and everything at the same time.Kai came downstairs, looked at my face, and sat down without pouring his coffee first. That small thing told me everything about how bad I looked right now."How many now?" he asked."Four in total. Fenn last night and three this morning." I put my phone face down on the table. "He's cutting the ground from under me before I can build anything on it.""Let me handle it.""No. I told you l don’t want you making decisions for me.""Hazel." His voice was patient but firm. "These are people Damon has r

~~ Hazel's POV ~~I was in the middle of going through supplier contacts when my phone rang. I looked at the screen and felt my stomach drop immediately.Clara Rossi. My stepmother.I stared at it for two rings or perhaps three. Then I picked up because I knew from experience that not picking up only made whatever was coming worse."Hazel." Her voice was warm. That particular kind of warmth that she only used when she wanted something. I had grown up listening to that voice and I knew every version of it. This one was her “I'm calling because I care” version. "Sweetheart. How are you?""I'm fine," my voice was flat "What do you want, Clara?"There was a small pause because she didn't like being called Clara. She had always wanted me to call her Mom but I had stopped doing that the day she chose Melissa over me without blinking."I'm calling because I'm worried about you," she said. "We all are. Your father hasn't been sleeping well since everything happened.""That's quite unfortunate
