LOGINThe Grand Hotel ballroom glittered beneath crystal chandeliers and the laughter of high society guests.
At the center of the room— Selena Laurent stood elegantly in an expensive white gown, holding Jason Valdis’s arm while accepting endless congratulations. Beautiful. Elegant. Perfect. Exactly like the beloved daughter of the Laurent family. Until— THE BALLROOM DOORS SWUNG OPEN. The noise inside instantly faded. A woman walked in slowly. A simple black dress. No jewelry. No excessive makeup. Yet the icy aura surrounding her made the entire ballroom feel suffocating. Click. Click. Click. The sound of her heels echoed across the marble floor. And with every step— Selena’s face grew paler. “Ve… Vessara…?” Selena’s smile froze completely. Jason frowned immediately. Mr. and Mrs. Laurent abruptly rose to their feet. Whispers instantly spread throughout the ballroom. “Wasn’t she in prison?” “The fake heiress?” “She actually came back?” Vessara stopped a few feet in front of them. Her gaze casually swept across the ballroom decorations. Balloons. Flowers. A champagne tower. A massive pre-wedding photo of Selena and Jason. How beautiful. Vessara smiled faintly. “Beautiful.” Her gaze slowly returned to Selena. “My engagement party really changed a lot while I was away.” The atmosphere instantly froze solid. Jason’s expression darkened. “Your engagement party?” he mocked coldly. “Don’t forget your place.” “The Valdis family’s marriage agreement was always meant for the real daughter of the Laurent family.” His eyes filled with contempt. “You’re nothing but a fake.” “And an ex-convict.” Vessara stared at him for two full seconds. Then— she laughed softly. “How strange.” “I was only gone for five years…” “And somehow my fiancé became my little sister’s man?” “Vessara!” Mrs. Laurent snapped furiously. “Stop embarrassing this family!” “Family?” Vessara finally turned toward her. The look in her eyes instantly made Mrs. Laurent choke on her words. “I’m not even sure you people ever considered me part of one.” Selena hurriedly bit her lip, her eyes reddening. “Sis…” her voice trembled softly. “I know you hate me.” “But I truly never blamed you…” “If you’re angry, just take it out on me…” Tears began falling down her cheeks. Weak. Fragile. Pitiful. Just like always. And the guests immediately fell for the act. “Miss Selena is too kind…” “After everything, she still calls Vessara her sister?” “Vessara really has no shame.” Selena slowly stepped closer. “Sis… I’m sorry…” SLAP— The sharp sound exploded through the ballroom. Selena’s body staggered sideways. Her lip split open instantly, blood dripping down her chin. The entire room froze. Vessara casually flexed her wrist. Her gaze was ice-cold. “Good.” “Because I came here to take it out on you.” Selena stared at her in shock. Before she could react— SLAP— The second slap landed even harder. Selena nearly collapsed to the floor. A sob broke from her lips. Vessara looked down at her emotionlessly. “The first slap…” “Was for the family you killed.” Her eyes turned even colder. “And the second slap—” “Was for the five years of my life you stole.” The ballroom exploded into chaos. Jason’s expression changed drastically. “Vessara!” He rushed forward furiously, reaching for her arm— Only for Vessara to grab his wrist and flip him over her shoulder in one clean motion. BANG! Jason crashed heavily onto the marble floor in front of everyone. The guests screamed in shock. Vessara looked down at him indifferently. “You were involved too.” Jason’s face twisted in humiliation and fury. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Laurent finally snapped. “You ungrateful little brat!” Mr. Laurent shrieked. “How dare you hit your sister?!” Mr. Laurent raised his hand furiously and stormed toward Vessara— But before he could touch her— “What are you doing?!” A cold voice suddenly rang through the ballroom. The atmosphere froze instantly. Everyone turned. A man in a tailored suit hurried across the ballroom and stopped in front of Vessara, slightly out of breath. Even so, his posture stayed respectful. “Miss Ve,” he said politely, “the acquisition has been completed. The hotel officially belongs to you now.” Then he lowered his head slightly. “Would you like us to clear the ballroom?” Silence swept across the room. Everyone froze. The Grand Hotel was one of the most exclusive hotels in the city. Rumor said the owner, known only as Mr. Foster, controlled an enormous underground network with connections everywhere. More importantly— People knew he was close to Razen Valdis. Because of that alone, even the hotel staff acted like royalty. People spent months trying to get a meeting with General Manager Parker. And now— The same man was bowing respectfully to a woman who had supposedly just gotten out of prison. Meanwhile, Vessara simply smiled faintly. Roy really did work fast. Buying an entire hotel in this amount of time wasn’t easy. As for Mr. Foster— A year ago, he’d been kidnapped during an international conflict and held hostage on a private island by mercenaries. He probably could’ve escaped eventually. But Vessara reached him first. Not only did she pull him out alive— She wiped out every mercenary on the island. Since then, Mr. Foster owed her a debt he could never repay. One hotel meant nothing.Moonlight blanketed the ground, making the night a little brighter.A cool breeze drifted through the air, occasionally lifting strands of passersby's hair and casting the moonlit world in an even hazier glow.Amid the quiet, Vessara ended her phone call. She lowered her gaze to the screen, momentarily lost in thought. It looked like everything at the base was under control. All that remained now......was dealing with the Laurent family. She pressed her lips together, narrowed her eyes slightly, and turned back toward the villa....The Barclay residence remained peaceful as ever.In stark contrast, chaos had erupted inside the Laurent household."What the hell is going on?"Martin yanked at his tie in frustration, his face twisted with barely restrained rage."Didn't you say Vessara was terrified of you? Didn't you say she'd do anything we asked? Then explain this!"
Seeing the seriousness on Vessara’s face, Razen couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst out laughing.“What are you laughing at?” Vessara frowned even harder, a trace of annoyance appearing in her eyes as she looked at him.Razen quickly composed himself before speaking.“You looked really cute just now. Alright, let's talk about the important stuff.”Caught off guard by his teasing, Vessara lowered her head—a rare sight indeed. No matter how hard she tried to hide it, however, the faint blush on the tips of her ears gave her away. After a few seconds, she lifted her head again and cleared her throat behind her hand.Only then did she resume her serious expression.“Alright. I have something I want to ask you.”“Go ahead.”Perhaps it was because of the gravity in her expression, but Razen found himself unexpectedly nervous. He curled his fingers slightly.
"Have you made up your mind yet? Everything Razen told you was true, wasn't it? You treat him like family, but he doesn't necessarily see you the same way. You should've realized that a long time ago."The man's voice was hoarse, carrying an almost hypnotic allure. He looked down at Jason Valdis from above, unable to hide the satisfaction in his heart. What a perfect creation. Now he could only hope Razen would be able to withstand the counterattack that was coming. As the thought crossed his mind, Jason slowly lifted his head. His eyes were filled with confusion, as though he didn't even know what to say. He simply stared silently at the man before him."What do you want?""I already told you. Join us. Work with us." The man smiled. "You know as well as I do that when Razen was overseas, he made plenty of enemies. He killed our second-in-command. We just want revenge for our leader. In the end, the V
At those words, Isabella froze. She stared at the person in front of her in disbelief. This was her daughter. The child connected to her by blood. And yet, at this moment, the woman before her felt strangely unfamiliar.More unfamiliar than ever before. She had never imagined that one day, that long-buried secret would be brought to light like this.Seeing that Isabella remained silent, Vessara didn't want to pressure her too much and could only ask softly,“Was that request too much? Honestly, it doesn't have to be that way... We don't necessarily have to use the White family's security team...”“No.”Isabella quickly came back to her senses and shook her head.“I was just surprised. How did you know about the security team?”The curiosity in her eyes was almost impossible to hide.At the question, Vessara scratched her head awkwardly.“Well...
Only after Dalton and the others had completely left the house did Vessara turn around and look seriously at Isabella. It was the first time she'd ever seen Isabella like this, and a strange feeling suddenly stirred in her heart."Vessara, I didn't scare you just now, did I?"Seeing that Vessara had remained silent the whole time, Isabella asked with concern.Snapping out of her daze, Vessara quickly waved her hands."No. I just... didn't process what happened right away.""I honestly thought that since they came all the way here, they wouldn't leave until they got what they wanted. Even if they eventually gave up, I figured they'd at least argue with us for a while. I didn't expect them to leave so easily."Hearing that, Isabella lifted her chin and let out a dismissive snort."The Hayes family only stays afloat because the Barclay family supports their business. If they want to put on airs in
The moment Mrs. Hayes said those words, Isabella’s expression changed dramatically.“What do you mean by that?”Covering her mouth with a laugh, Mrs. Hayes hurried forward and took Isabella’s hand, her smile growing even warmer.“Isabella, haven’t you always been fond of Dalton? That’s why I brought him with me today. Both our families happen to have some free time, so this is the perfect opportunity to sit down and talk about the children. You don’t have to hide it from me anymore—I already know the two of them have feelings for each other. If our families can become even closer through marriage, wouldn’t that be wonderful?”The more she spoke, the more excited she became. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the young woman standing beside Isabella. The instant she saw Vessara, a flash of amazement crossed her face.Mrs. Hayes immediately released Isabella&
