I grabbed Tori by the hair and ignored her frantic attempt to escape my grasp.
They really thought I was gone.
“What does it feel like? To be bullied by the woman you killed?" I dragged her toward the trembling Harvey. I dropped her before him and she fell flat on her chest, shrieking with fear.
I grabbed her hair again and made her look at me. Seeing her annoying face, my stomach rumbled, and I landed a resounding slap on her cheeks. My palm met so perfectly with her cheek that it reddened instantly.
That's not all.
Slap!
Slap!
I did it repeatedly, twice on both cheeks. I almost slapped her the third time but I calmed myself down. I shouldn't become a monster like them.
Harvey didn't even raise his head to look at her once. Of course, he didn't, the man was busy trying to save his own head.
For a moment, she hesitated, then she kneeled timidly before me, side by side with Harvey. Pathetic.
“Listen here, you two. Don't think you've won yet, the fact that I could somehow return from the dead, means I still have a lot up my sleeve," I pointed at both of them.
“And Harvey," I called and he immediately raised his head to meet my murderous gaze. “You are last. I wasted three years of my life on you and you rewarded me by ruining my life."
“I won't leave you to karma, of course not. No one gets to punish you except me. I made what you are today, I'll also be the one to destroy you!" I spat at him.
“And also, did you think I mainly belonged to the Mays' family? The Mays' were my mother's family, you've never heard about my father, right?” I asked with a wide grin, his face became darkened and pale, completely lost in color.
"What did you mean? You took your mother's surname?” His voice cracked and trembled with the fear of ‘it shouldn't be what I'm thinking.’
"Watch the news tonight,” I said and walked out the door, leaving the two pathetic couples to their misery.
I walked out of the mansion. Not for one looking back.
Brian hid somewhere behind Harvey's black Porsche. He must have heard the noises coming from inside, especially Tori's scream.
"Don't worry, they're alive for now” I said and walked out of the gate.
Revenge could wait, I need to get a hold of my life first. Legally, I'm still tied to Harvey Fontaine.
I need to visit the firm and get the divorce papers but… since the news of my death has traveled through the world, no firm will be willing to fulfill my request without handing me over to the police.
I stood still before the Fontaine's mansion as I ran a hand through my straight brunette hair, searching the corners of my brain for a solution. There has to be one.
Harvey should have rivals that will fulfill my request just for the excitement of seeing Harvey Fontaine's calculations go terribly wrong.
"Rivals?” I muttered to myself as a man's image appeared in my head. “The Fletcher's Law and Justice."
If anyone would enjoy ruining Harvey, it has to be him: Warren Fletcher.
Harvey's long-time rival, practically his archenemy. A man who had made his interest in me publicly known several times even when he knew I was married to his rival and I never talked to him, mainly because Harvey hates him.
With my destination in mind, I boarded a cab and headed to Fletcher's Law and Justice. It was a thirty-minute ride and I arrived before the firm.
The firm was a gigantic skyscraper, it stood tall and wide. I walked into the wide circular driveway, the plaza enormous, bordered by trimmed edges, modern sculptures, and employees in suits bustling past.
I was about to walk toward the large glass door when…
“Oli? What are you doing here?" I heard that familiar voice behind me.
I don't even have to look at his face to know it was him, the only man who shortened my name and still made it sound good.
Warren Fletcher.
I turned around with a smile, one I don't think I've ever flashed at him before. I've never smiled at him at all.
"Wow!” He exclaimed with a teasing grin.
"Why are you here and should you be… I mean, as Harvey claimed on the news this morning. Shouldn't you be…" he paused as if he didn't know if he should complete the sentence.
“Dead?" I completed it for him and he nodded with an awkward smile.
“I was never dead, Warren, Harvey was a jerk," I said. His brows creased for a minute then he nodded his head.
"This has something to do with that actress, right? What was her name again?” He asked but when I didn't reply, he continued. "Your best friend, was she?”
"Tori Finley,” I replied. "And no, we're no longer friends," I made sure to set the boundary.
No friend of mine would push me to my death.
“Why are you here, Oli? It's weird to see you suddenly standing before my company," he blinked and his neutral expression returned.
“I'm here to get divorce papers and your firm is the only option I have,” I replied and of course, he looked at me with his brows deepened in confusion.
"I want to divorce Harvey and return to my life as Olivia Winehouse,” I continued, as I revealed to him a secret no one has ever heard from me
His expression became even more twisted at this point, his lips parted but he couldn't say a word.
I waited til he untangled it and he finally asked, "What did you mean by Olivia Winehouse? I thought you were Olivia May?"
“No. May is just my mother's surname, my real name is Olivia Winehouse," I said but that didn't sate his curiosity, his expression darkened and his jaw dropped in shock.
“Olivia Winehouse? You mean the same Winehouse Corporation, the top global consortium in the world?” He asked, his voice dripping with disbelief and I nodded.
"Olivia Winehouse, the princess of the country?” He yelled at this point and I hurriedly covered his mouth with my hand.
A few minutes later, I was done freshening up.I called two maids into the room and asked them to help me get ready. By the time they placed the final hairpin into my floral updo, I barely recognized the woman in the mirror. She looked like the version of myself I had always wanted to become. “Do you like it, young madam?" One of them asked, but I was lost staring at my own reflection, and I didn't reply. I touched my skin delicately, almost afraid the reflection would disappear. Is this really me? I stood up after a moment and walked to my huge walk-in closet; the two maids trailed behind me slowly. “Help me pick an outfit, one that'll make my ex-husband regret everything." I said, and they immediately began to look through my dresses. When they were done, they brought me a long white dress. The dress was made of silk and chiffon, with diamond trinkets and pearl beads. It looked exquisite in every form and, better still, it was a custom-made evening dress from a
“Your mother did what?" I repeated, even when I heard him clearly. "Relax. The announcement will still happen,” he said lightly. He placed his hand on my shoulder and patted it gently, a gesture so annoying, I had to bite my tongue. “Get your hands off me," I slapped his hand away and took a step back from him. Didn't Margaret announce my return? I sighed, facepalmed. “I told Harvey to watch the news last night,” I snapped. “If Margaret had announced my return properly, he would already know who I am.” “Calm down, would you?” White rolled his eyes and moved closer to me. "According to the information I read, they're holding an engagement party this morning.” My eyes widened as soon as the words rolled out of his mouth. I grabbed the collar of his white shirt, as if trying to choke him. "What did you say? An engagement party?" I asked, my voice coated in disbelief. Harvey is not a rash man; he never makes unprofitable decisions. A flash marriage is not like H
“Why should I stay away from Warren?" I demanded.I kept my eyes on Mr. Simon, waiting for an answer. Before, I had never known Warren on a personal level. He was Harvey's rival, even when their businesses weren't in the same major. Warren had helped me more in two days than most people had in years. Why was everyone warning me away from him? Thinking back now, I don't think I've ever asked Harvey why he was enemies with Warren in the first place.Harvey's into raw materials and construction building supplies, while Warren majored solely in law, they should never have been rivals. Mr. Simon didn't reply. He lowered his head as if ashamed. "I'm tired, Mr. Simon. Please tell me what it is so that I can rest,” I sighed, temporarily giving up for the night. "I think it'd be better if Mr. Fletcher tells you his relationship with the Winehouse himself,” he moved backward. "Mr…" I opened my palms in desperation, trying to convince him more, but he bowed and exited the r
“Olivia, behave!" He grabbed my wrist and pulled my hand off his collar. I grabbed it again. I wasn’t letting him slip away.“You’ve been in this mansion the whole time. Don’t tell me you didn’t know my mother was gone," I held his gaze, unblinking. Anger surged through me. My grip tightened on his collar, a little too hard; I almost choked him. “Huh!" A loud gasp came from the door as Margaret entered the living room with her two puppets behind her. “What is this?” she snapped, pulling my hand away from Uncle Roger's collar, and I staggered backward. Uncle Roger coughed while fixing his collar, his glare hardened, and I returned the courtesy. “What was the fuss about? Olivia, have you lost all sense?" She barred her teeth at me, glaring as if to make me shrink. She wished.I turned to the trembling maid, not bothering with Margaret. I moved to her, and my expression softened. “Can you tell me what happened before she left? My mother doesn't make rash decisions."
“How can Mrs. Luke be my stepmother?" I glared at Uncle Roger, my eyes wide. This was absurd.“Olivia, be respectful!" He cautioned sharply. Mrs. Margaret Luke stood before me, watching me calmly, as if I were nothing more than a spectacle. For a moment, I hesitated. My tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth, as if to stop myself from saying any more. But no! The fire burning in my head is enough to roast my organs and fill the entire mansion with its aroma. I burst forward. “Margaret Luke was our neighbor for a very long time, before I was born. She was my mother's only friend and my godmother." I turned to Uncle Roger, my gaze demanding his explanation. "So what are you telling me? How did my godmother become my stepmother?” Uncle Roger fell silent, his expression falling as if he was lost for words, but I could see how his hand tightened into a fist. We definitely aren't on the same page.I looked at Mrs. Luke again and the two people besides her, who l
I stood frozen, trembling. My mind went blank. I couldn’t form a single thought. I scanned the storage room for an exit. There was none. No window. No second door. Nothing to hide behind: just broken chairs and dusty papers. What could I even do? I was already exposed. “I took in a cat recently. It’s probably in there. I also caught a cold, that’s why I went to the hospital,” Warren said. He came to my rescue. He covered for me. Again."Oh, I thought someone was hiding inside.” Uncle Roger said and I could hear the couch squeak when he sat down. "Take care of your health, okay?” I am safe. For now, at least."So, about your niece?” Warren continued the conversation. "You can't understand unless I bring the printed version of the will,” Uncle Roger said. He sounded reluctant, as if he didn't want to continue the conversation. "Is it in your car then?” Warren pressed."Yes, let me grab it real quick, so you can read it,” Uncle Roger replied and the couch squeaked whe
I was beyond stunned. No, that wasn't right. That wasn't what happened. My eyes were glued to the TV screen as Harvey went on and on about how irrational and toxic I was in our marriage. Every word twisted. Every truth buried under the lies.I died… and this is what he did with it?He especially lo
I opened my eyes.I stared blankly at the white ceiling above me and looked into the lights like I wasn't aware of how blinding it was.Too bright.Slowly, the distant noises in my ear became louder. First, there's the sound: a steady, mechanical beeping, sharp enough to slide through the fog in
“Olivia, be reasonable. What did you mean by wanting a divorce? Divorce who? Me? You must have seriously lost it, we should visit the hospital," he barked but my expression didn't change and my decision was even firmer. Grounded.Of course. To him, this was absurd. 'Olivia, it's enough. Time to r
“Harvey, you're so heartless," Tears rolled down my cheeks as I clutched my dress like it was the only thing that could anchor me in the middle of the storm raging in my head. “What did I do that's so unbearable? Just shift aside for a while, move to the penthouse… or something, I'm sure you'll b
