Mrs Riley's POV

The car eventually drove away, but the tension in our house stayed behind. "I'm going to bed," I told Lorenzo, my voice tired. "Are you coming?"

He nodded, following me upstairs without a word. Each step felt heavy, like my legs were made of concrete.

Our bedroom had always been our safe place. The one spot where we could be completely honest with each other. Tonight, though, the air felt thick and dangerous between us.

I kicked off my shoes and sat on the edge of our bed. Lorenzo closed the door behind us, then just stood there, staring at me.

"What?" I asked, though I knew exactly what was coming.

"You lied to our children," he said. His voice was quiet but sharp. "You made up a whole new story."

I started taking off my earrings, trying to look calm. "I did what needed to be done."

"You told them I left Victoria for you!" Lorenzo's voice rose slightly. "That's not what happened, Riley. That's not even close to what happened."

"Would you rather I tell them the truth?"
