FAZER LOGINChin held high, I smirk right back at them...and that's exactly when I spot him. My heart practically leaps out of my chest, and my stomach drops the instant my eyes land on them...on him.
He's incredibly tall, taller even than my cousin Caleb. Even setting aside his height and looks, his walk alone commands attention, prowling through the room like he owns every square inch of it. Pure confidence, pure elegance. Some unsettling blend of royalty and predator. Everything around me fades into background noise, and somehow I've stood straight up without meaning to. I quickly drop back into my seat, desperately trying to steady my racing heartbeat. Can barely think straight, my stomach's churning and my whole body's trembling. My breathing's ragged. What's happening to me? He's like some magnetic force pulling me toward him. God, what is going on? Both newcomers continue further into the room, and there's absolutely no way anyone could ignore a presence like theirs. The room's chatter nearly dies out completely. Every set of eyes is locked onto them now, mine included. "Oh. My. God," breathes one of the girls who'd been mocking me earlier. "Wow." "Right?" her friend murmurs back, sounding equally breathless. I completely understand the sentiment. He's honestly the most stunning creature I've ever laid eyes on. Impossible not to notice how his white t-shirt stretches tight across broad shoulders and chest, tapering down toward a flat stomach. How those designer jeans hug his long legs and, well, everything else perfectly. Dayyum. Bad Freya, look away, Freya. Look away now. There's a gorgeous redhead walking beside him too, but somehow I can't tear my eyes off him specifically. I watch them both make their way to their seats. My fingers curl into fists and I wrap my trembling arms tightly around myself. They settle right into the middle of the back row, quite far from where I'm sitting, yet a bunch of other students immediately relocate closer toward them anyway. Moths drawn straight to flame. Everything about the two of them screams wealth, elegance, and raw power. Nobody else around me seems to notice, but I can practically feel dangerous energy radiating off them in waves. Not that I feel personally threatened or in danger from them exactly, but I know without question they're dangerous. Deadly, even. Despite knowing all that, I still can't stop myself from staring at him from beneath my hood. My gaze travels from his sharp, aristocratic nose toward high cheekbones and an angular jawline. Every contour of his face looks chiseled straight from granite. His hair, silky and shiny, golden blond streaked with lighter gold, styled to absolute perfection. His skin, smooth, flawless, glowing golden tan. Honestly, a golden god, that's exactly what he is. He looks utterly bored. Leaning back, sprawling his impressive frame lazily across his chair, scanning the room with obvious disinterest. Like some kind of king surveying subjects beneath him. That perfect blend of haughty and bored somehow reads as incredibly sexy. Can't tell what color his eyes are from this distance, but even from here, the eyes beneath those sharp, prominent brows look piercing. His glance sweeps briefly over me without pausing even slightly, instantly dismissing me as unimportant, uninteresting. Weirdly, that stings. I watch his attention linger on several pretty human girls now showing considerably more skin than necessary as they cluster closer around him. His companion, the stunning redhead, rolls her eyes and leans in to whisper something in his ear. His sensual mouth curves into the faintest smirk before he resumes scanning the room, bored once again. Freya! Get a grip and stay away! I swear I can practically hear Nana's voice echoing in my head right now. Yeah, I'm aware that hearing voices belonging to someone who's already passed isn't exactly the picture of mental health, but hey, I've never claimed to have it all together, and clearly I'm losing it completely now! I wonder if that redhead is actually his mate or something similar. Ugh...why does that thought make my stomach turn? I finally manage to tear my gaze away when our professor walks in. The instant the middle-aged professor turns toward the board to write something, my eyes drift straight back toward the golden blond god again. Seriously, how does he make even flicking a pen look that sexy? Literally everything this man does looks obscenely attractive. No, no, absolutely not, this cannot be happening! Normal human man. Normal human man. Stay focused on normal human men, Freya. No lusting after...whatever exactly this creature is. I glance down at my completely blank notepad. Freya, seriously, what are you even doing right now? Pay attention! So far, the sole piece of information I've retained from today's lecture is that my professor's name is Professor Bennett. Yeah, that's going to be extremely useful come exam time. No matter how hard I try, my eyes keep drifting right back toward him. Now I'm noticing how impossibly long his legs are, stretched out beneath the table, or how perfectly they fill out those blue jeans. By the time lecture ends, I'm absolutely furious with myself. So mad and frustrated I could actually cry. I've retained literally nothing that was taught today. Why, Freya, seriously why? He's not even remotely interested in you, not even a little bit...which honestly is a good thing. Very good. Incredibly, wonderfully good. Completely! I'm fairly convinced neither of them is human. Definitely not werewolves either. So what exactly are they? Nope, shouldn't matter, shouldn't care. Doesn't change anything regardless of what they actually are. What genuinely matters is staying far away from anything not human. No matter how insanely sexy or impossibly gorgeous he happens to be. I sigh, gathering my belongings together. Why am I so ridiculously drawn to him anyway? Why do the "not normal" ones always end up being this unfairly attractive?"So, Freya Hayes..." he murmurs, like he's tasting the sound of it. The way my name slides off his tongue sends a shiver straight down my spine. I'd just finished signing the attendance sheet as it circulated, and apparently he's only now piecing together my full name. "Freya..." he repeats under his breath, then lets out a low chuckle. "The fvcking irony," he says. "Perfect." Excuse me? What is that supposed to mean? God, the man is exhausting! Is he mocking my name now? Because if so, I will happily gouge his eyes out with this pen. I mean it. I spin around and shoot him a look meant to promise violence, holding my pen up in a stabbing motion for emphasis. He laughs quietly, clearly delighted by my reaction. "Easy with the threats, sweetheart," he whispers, pitched just loud enough for me and every nosy student nearby to catch. "You're putting ideas in my head. Getting me worked up. Giving me all sorts of thoughts..." Oh my god. A strangled little sound, half squeak half whimpe
Freya's POVNobody's home when I get back, same as always. After showering, I throw on pajama pants and a tank top, then scrutinize myself in the mirror. There's zero chance anyone in this house misses that massive hickey on my neck. I'd been careful hiding it under my hair all day, but even Harper caught it. We were sipping smoothies at the cafe after my interview with Owen, the manager, when Harper cracked up and said, "Oh, boy, poor Nolan, he never stood a chance, huh?" Her eyes kept drifting to the bruise the entire time. Nolan had looked anywhere but at me, pretending he hadn't noticed or heard a word Harper said. It's impossible to miss, honestly. Caleb definitely won't be thrilled. He's ridiculously overprotective lately. I'm technically an adult, yet my cousin still treats me like some twelve-year-old.I refuse to hole up in my room avoiding everyone until this thing fades. I did enough hiding back at Night Shade Pack, and I despised every second of it.Ugh, fine, decision mad
I glance over my shoulder to watch her stomp away like a queen-child. She is fuming. Her hips sway as she walks away. It's not done intentionally or in an exaggerated way like some girls do either. That's just the way she walks and it's as sexy as fvck and I can't take my eyes off of her, damn it! I can't help the grin from forming on my face. I never had to work to get a girl before. This would be interesting. I live for challenges but I'll be damned if I have to wait for years, like the way Caspian waited for Livana before I claim my erasthai. I watch her disappear from view before I push myself off the wall to stalk back to where I left my bag. I weave through girls standing in front of my bag and books. "Julian, we can continue with our project in my room, if you want. We won't get interrupted there," says my project partner, Serena. "No, I have a class in ten minutes," I tell her as I sling my backpack over my shoulder. "What about later? I'm free the whole day." "I'm
Julian's POV The air crackles with electricity between us. The pull is intense. I fight for control but now, my vision is tinged red. My animal side is taking over. The thought of her with some other guy, even just for a simple lunch drives me crazy. Her hiding my mark on her, even a temporary one, just snaps off my control and my lycan takes over. I inhale her incredible, magical scent deeply to calm the beast in me. "Tell me you're not seeing anybody. Tell me there's no other man." She's mine. I can hear the thunderous drum of her heartbeat, the heated blood that rushes through her body, the ragged breathing that matches my own but she remains silent. It doesn't matter. She belongs to me. If there's another man staking a claim on her, I will crush him. I will destroy anything that comes between me and her. The graceful curve of her neck looks so tempting as I run my nose close to it and breathe in her scent deeply one more time. Her scent manages to calm me and excite me at
"I'm not going to tell you my name and I'm not going to show you anything that's mine." "Well...that's too bad, Princess," he says. "I want to see everything that's yours and it's hard to get to know each other if you won't tell me your name. It's going to take a while for us start making out, huh?" What the hell? I stop in my track and turn to look at him. He has that annoying smile that says he knows something that I don't. So very annoying. "Listen here bud, we're not ever going to be making out," I tell him. "Okay. Tomorrow then?" he says with that sexy stupid cocky grin. Ughh!!! I start walking again but I have this urge to stomp my feet like a five-year-old throwing a tantrum. "So....not tomorrow either? Is the next day okay?" I stop again and glare at him. Is he doing this just to annoy me? He bursts out laughing. I have to admit, the sound of his laughter almost makes me melt into a puddle at his feet. It's beautiful. Low and manly yet full of tempting naughtines
Werewolves generally have variants earthy smell of the forest. Living among them all my life makes me familiar with their scent. I can spot even the faintest of their scents anywhere. Even Nana had her own unique scent of the wild. The beautiful stranger whose hands are currently gripping my hips and whose lips and nose are firmly buried in my neck has a different kind of scent. It's definitely wild and it's something I'm not familiar with, mixed with the smell of an expensive cologne. He smells rich...and oh, so very good. Like catnip to cats, like crack cocaine to an addict, I can't resist burying my face into his soft silky golden hair, taking a long deep drag of his addictive scent into my starved, deprived lungs. The feel of his lips on my neck is sending bursts of electrical current to every cell and nerve ending in my body. I place my hands on his broad solid shoulders and succumb to the urge to plaster the front of my body to his until there is no part of the front of our bo
