Chapter 1

When Conrad's phone screen lit up for the third time, he finally glanced down casually.

Someone had sent a photo to the company Slack channel.

The photo was taken from a highly compromising angle. He and I were walking side by side out of the same house, and his hand was resting on my waist.

The messages in the group started rolling in crazily.

"Why is Celine walking out of Conrad's house?"

"Oh my god, have they been living together? Are they sleeping together?"

"Ivy is going to lose her mind when she sees this."

I stared at the words on the screen. My fingertips slowly went cold.

In my previous life, this was the exact same photo that blew everything up.

Back then, my palms were sweating with panic. My first instinct was to look to Conrad for help.

He gently rubbed my shoulder and coaxed me in a soft voice.

"Celine, don't be afraid. Just let me handle it."

I foolishly believed him.

But ten minutes later, he stood under the spotlight at the company anniversary gala and announced to everyone.

"Please don't misunderstand. Celine just dropped by my place to pick up some documents. There is absolutely nothing going on between us."

At that moment, I even tried desperately to make excuses for him in my head.

The company had just received a new round of funding. The investors were all present, so he was in a difficult position.

But I never expected that his casual words would become a breeding ground for so much malice.

Ivy cried her eyes out in the breakroom, accusing me of being a shameless gold digger who intentionally seduced Conrad for his wealth.

Ryan, the Marketing Director, mocked me with nasty remarks in the department chat.

"Looks like working hard in bed pays off a lot more than working hard at your desk."

Sarah, the HR Director, immediately disabled my internal system account.

And then there was Jessica, the snobby administrative assistant.

She threw a cup of scalding hot coffee right at my chest and laughed wildly.

"You slut, feels good, doesn't it? Did the CEO finally acknowledge your status today?"

Opening my eyes again, I was sitting in the passenger seat of Conrad's car. We had just parked outside the gala venue.

He hadn't yet had the chance to say those words that would force me to compromise.

Conrad locked his phone screen and frowned deeply.

"Celine, I'll go in first. You stay in the car and wait a few minutes before following me, just to avoid any misunderstandings."

I turned my head to look at him.

On the night we got married, he pinned me against the soft mattress and promised me something.

"Baby, just bear with it a little longer. Once the company gets through its startup phase, I'll tell the whole world you're my wife."

But three years passed in a flash.

The company had already secured two rounds of multimillion-dollar funding.

He had transformed into the glamorous, highly eligible bachelor featured in business magazines.

And I was still just the ordinary Celine in everyone else's eyes.

The wedding, the ring, and the title. I waited for them, but I got nothing.

Seeing my silence, Conrad deliberately lowered his voice, trying to comfort me.

"We're at a crucial stage. If our marriage is exposed, it won't just cause gossip among the employees but also shake the trust of our investors."

I gave a small smile.

"So?"

He was clearly stunned.

I was so used to being obedient in my previous life that he never expected me to talk back to him like this.

He patiently continued to explain.

"I'm doing this to protect you. You know how picky Sterling and the other investors are. They rely on my bachelor image to pump up the company's valuation. If they find out I've been married all this time, all our hard work will be ruined."

"If everyone knows that the CEO's wife works on the same floor as them every day, how will they look at you?"

Such pretty words. They were completely hypocritical, though he claimed it was all for my own good.

In my previous life, I was suffocated by these exact words.

Even during the online hate storm later, to prove how understanding I was, I foolishly signed the equity transfer agreement he handed me. I gave up my fifty-one percent majority stake, and was ultimately forced into a dead end with nothing left.

At this moment, the sound of security guards patrolling came from outside the car window.

The anniversary gala was about to start.

Conrad adjusted the cuffs of his expensive suit and pushed the car door open to step out first.

Exactly like in my previous life, he subconsciously took a large step forward, eager to distance himself from me.

But I immediately followed him, pushing the door open and stepping out.

My stilettos clicked sharply on the asphalt.

He sensed my approach and turned his head to look at me. There was a warning in his eyes.

I didn't stop walking. Instead, I raised my hand and firmly hooked my arm through his.

Conrad's body instantly tensed like a rock, and he instinctively tried to pull his arm away.

I tilted my face up, locked my eyes straight on him, and smiled.

"Honey, let's go in together."

The company's upper management structure went through a massive overhaul. At first, the whole circle was sipping coffee and waiting for me to make a fool of myself. Those arrogant venture capitalists asserted that a woman who had just gone through a messy divorce and public scandal couldn't possibly achieve anything great. There were also peers who posted mocking articles, saying that no matter how terrible Conrad was, he was a good face for the company, and kicking him out was tantamount to playing with fire.I didn't even issue a PR statement.I just reorganized the core team, laid off all the useless yes-men, and directly promoted the core members who truly understood the technology to the board of directors. The business elites who had once been sidelined by Conrad using office politics finally got back the opportunities they deserved.Facts proved that no one here was truly irreplaceable.Especially after completely rooting out a scumbag who only knew how to market and package him

Later, following the doctor's advice, I made the decision to terminate the pregnancy. The day I went into the operating room, I didn't shed a single tear.It was only after waking up from the anesthesia that I stared at the pale ceiling of the hospital room in a daze for a long time. From that moment on, no matter how much Conrad brought up the child in his messages, I only saw him as a ridiculous clown. He didn't care about that unformed child at all.All he wanted was a bargaining chip that could make me compromise and let him manipulate me again.I moved my fingers and coldly replied to his message."If you want to talk about the divorce settlement, you're welcome anytime. If you want to talk about feelings, you make me sick."A week later, Conrad finally appeared in front of me again, in the glass-walled conference room on the top floor of the company.People walking by stopped chatting when they saw me.Someone softly said, "Good morning." I nodded to acknowledge them.Inside the

On the screen, Conrad's message stayed up for a long time.No one spoke in the conference room.Ivy's lips trembled."It's not like that! Conrad kept lying to me. He told me himself that he never loved you."I interrupted her. "But you knew he had a wife."She jerked her head up."Celine, you didn't win either. He never loved you!"I twitched the corners of my lips and laughed out loud."Do you think after going through all this, I still care about his cheap love?"Ivy was instantly silenced, as if she had been slapped. She couldn't see reality clearly even now.The me in my previous life might have truly cared.I cared about whether Conrad's eyes lingered on me, cared about whether he would turn over a new leaf, and cared about whether he had merely made a mistake that any man could make. But after crawling back from hell once, all I had eyes for were conclusive evidence, hard cash, and making them pay the price. Before the meeting ended, the ruling was announced."In light of this se

At the hospital, after a series of emergency examinations, the doctor confirmed that the fetus was fine for now, but strictly ordered me to stay on bed rest for observation.A female officer sat by my hospital bed and took my official statement.I held nothing back and laid all my cards on the table.I handed over those disgusting chat screenshots.I handed over the medical report from the hospital. And the voice recordings of Conrad repeatedly telling me to hide our marriage. The female officer closed her notebook, looked at me with sympathetic eyes, and asked why I waited until today to reveal all this.I turned my head to look at the neon night view outside the window. My tone was surprisingly calm."Because I used to foolishly think that as long as I compromised enough, one day he would willingly acknowledge me as his wife.""I didn't want to force him."When I said that, even I felt pathetic.I had once pinned all my hopes on a pathological liar. The police worked fast.Early the

The other end of the line was silent for a second. Then the operator's voice turned serious."Please stay safe and avoid any further physical contact. Officers will be there shortly."I hung up the phone. No one in the restroom made a sound.Jessica, who was just arrogantly laughing at me, was now pale with fright. She huddled in a corner with her head down.Conrad was the first to snap back to reality. He strode up to me, dropping his voice to a harsh whisper. "Celine, are you crazy? Do you know what kind of nonsense you just told the police?!"I met his violent gaze without backing down."I was just stating the facts."A vein pulsed in his forehead. "We're a legally married couple!"I curled my lips and smiled coldly."Darling, that isn't what you said ten minutes ago. You publicly claimed my marriage certificate was forged. Since we aren't married, you taking advantage of me constitutes sexual assault."As soon as those words came out, even Ivy forgot to squeeze out her tears. She p

The cloudy liquid dripped from the ends of my hair onto the tiles.I raised my hand and expressionlessly wiped away the ruined makeup from the corner of my eye.Harsh laughter echoed in the restroom.Jessica held her phone up at me, the camera pointed right in my face."Come on, Celine, smile for the camera. Aren't you the CEO's wife? Call your husband to come save you."I looked at the camera and suddenly smiled too.Jessica froze for a second.I reached out, snatched her phone, and threw it straight into the toilet next to us.She screamed, "Celine, you crazy bitch!"I ignored her screaming, reached back, and took out my own phone.I quickly sent three high-definition pictures directly to the company Slack channel. The marriage certificate. The valid marriage record lookup from the county clerk. And the first page of the prenuptial equity agreement that Conrad had personally signed back then. The group chat exploded instantly."This state seal and serial number.
