Chapter 3

Author: Bagel
As soon as she said this, the faces of quite a few executives in the room changed.

Ivy, however, seemed to have completely thrown caution to the wind.

She clung tightly to Conrad's arm, large drops of tears rolling down her face.

"Celine, no matter how obsessed you are with Conrad, you can't just make up a lie like this to force him to marry you, right?"

Ryan immediately chimed in from the side.

"Exactly. Look at how successful Conrad is. Do you really think you are in his league?"

The employees around us started whispering.

"Celine's behavior has indeed been very abnormal lately."

"Is she trying to use a scandal to move up?"

I listened quietly.

In my previous life, these vicious speculations sliced me up like knives.

Now, they just sounded completely ridiculous.

Conrad finally yanked his arm back forcefully.

He strode up to me, lowering his voice into a harsh command.

"Celine, go to the lounge and wait for me."

I stood my ground, not giving an inch.

He warned me, practically gritting his teeth.

"Stop this right now, and I can pretend nothing happened."

"Stop this?" I raised my eyebrows, meeting his gaze without backing down.

"Take back the fact that I'm your wife?"

Conrad's jaw clenched tight.

"Do you have to humiliate me in front of the investors?"

I almost laughed out loud.

In my previous life, when I was slut-shamed across the internet and pushed to a dead end, he only cared that I had affected the company's valuation.

In this life, I was merely stating facts, and he still felt I was making him lose face.

Conrad took a deep breath and switched back to his usual soft voice.

"Be reasonable, babe. The company just got funding. The last thing we need is a messy private life for the top management."

"Making a scene like this now will only make others see you as a gold digger who slept her way to the top."

"Why should my competence be proven by my marital status?"

"You know I don't mean it like that."

"Then what do you mean?"

I looked at him.

"Are you too afraid to admit you're married, or are you just terrified to let your investors know that half of this company isn't even yours?"

Conrad could no longer keep up his facade.

A dark look flashed through his charming eyes.

"Celine, you're clearly suffering from a mental breakdown."

The show was starting. The familiar tricks were beginning.

In my previous life, he first labeled me as mentally unstable, then instructed HR to force me out the door.

I simply unzipped my purse and pulled out our marriage certificate.

When that piece of paper bearing the official state seal was revealed, the buzzing around us instantly died down.

I unfolded it and held it right in front of Ryan's face.

"Open your eyes wide and look closely."

The muscles on Ryan's face stiffened, but he remained stubborn.

"There are plenty of fake documents out there now. Who knows if it's real?"

I took out my phone.

"Do you need me to pull up the county clerk's public records right now and look it up for you?"

Ivy's previously rosy cheeks turned pale instantly.

She stumbled back a step, quickly bursting into tears again.

"Conrad, say something! Are you just going to let Celine slander you like this?"

This time, Conrad remained silent.

A moment later, he looked at me with deep disappointment.

"Celine, do you really have to spout nonsense in front of all our partners? Are you trying to ruin the entire team's three years of hard work?"

"I'm not the one ruining anything."

My tone was icy cold.

"You've been lying for so long that you actually think the truth is wrong."

When the atmosphere reached a breaking point, Sarah walked over.

As the HR Director, her face always wore a hypocritical, flawless professional smile.

"Celine, given that your current mental state makes you incapable of working, I'm officially placing you on administrative leave for the sake of your health and the company's reputation."

"Please cooperate with security and leave, or we'll have to call the police."

In my previous life, this was exactly how I was escorted out by her.

That was followed by my system access being frozen, my email canceled, and my keycard deactivated.

But now I just looked at her. "Sarah, the suspension paperwork is already printed, isn't it?"

Sarah's smile stiffened. "What do you mean by that?"

"Nothing."

I folded the marriage certificate and put it back in my purse.

"Just a friendly reminder that abusing your authority opens you up to a lawsuit."

I ignored them, turned around, and walked toward the restroom at the end of the hallway.

I had just turned on the faucet to wash my hands when I heard footsteps behind me.

Jessica, accompanied by two administrative assistants who usually hung out with her, blocked the door.

She crossed her arms, spitting out a vicious mockery.

"Celine, you liar. You really just refuse to give up, don't you?"

I turned off the faucet and pulled out a paper towel.

"Get out of my way."

Jessica picked up the spray bottle in her hand.

"Are you addicted to playing the CEO's wife? Why don't you look in the mirror, you greedy gold digger? Even if Conrad were to really get married, it would never be your turn, you boring, washed-up woman."

Before I could speak, she raised the spray bottle and sprayed it crazily right at my face.

The harsh smell of cheap makeup remover hit my nose as the liquid dripped down my eyelashes, stinging my eyes.

People were peeking in from outside the restroom to watch the show.

Jessica laughed uncontrollably.

"Look, everyone! Doesn't the crazy woman look exactly like a drowned rat right now?"

The company's upper management structure went through a massive overhaul. At first, the whole circle was sipping coffee and waiting for me to make a fool of myself. Those arrogant venture capitalists asserted that a woman who had just gone through a messy divorce and public scandal couldn't possibly achieve anything great. There were also peers who posted mocking articles, saying that no matter how terrible Conrad was, he was a good face for the company, and kicking him out was tantamount to playing with fire.I didn't even issue a PR statement.I just reorganized the core team, laid off all the useless yes-men, and directly promoted the core members who truly understood the technology to the board of directors. The business elites who had once been sidelined by Conrad using office politics finally got back the opportunities they deserved.Facts proved that no one here was truly irreplaceable.Especially after completely rooting out a scumbag who only knew how to market and package him

Later, following the doctor's advice, I made the decision to terminate the pregnancy. The day I went into the operating room, I didn't shed a single tear.It was only after waking up from the anesthesia that I stared at the pale ceiling of the hospital room in a daze for a long time. From that moment on, no matter how much Conrad brought up the child in his messages, I only saw him as a ridiculous clown. He didn't care about that unformed child at all.All he wanted was a bargaining chip that could make me compromise and let him manipulate me again.I moved my fingers and coldly replied to his message."If you want to talk about the divorce settlement, you're welcome anytime. If you want to talk about feelings, you make me sick."A week later, Conrad finally appeared in front of me again, in the glass-walled conference room on the top floor of the company.People walking by stopped chatting when they saw me.Someone softly said, "Good morning." I nodded to acknowledge them.Inside the

On the screen, Conrad's message stayed up for a long time.No one spoke in the conference room.Ivy's lips trembled."It's not like that! Conrad kept lying to me. He told me himself that he never loved you."I interrupted her. "But you knew he had a wife."She jerked her head up."Celine, you didn't win either. He never loved you!"I twitched the corners of my lips and laughed out loud."Do you think after going through all this, I still care about his cheap love?"Ivy was instantly silenced, as if she had been slapped. She couldn't see reality clearly even now.The me in my previous life might have truly cared.I cared about whether Conrad's eyes lingered on me, cared about whether he would turn over a new leaf, and cared about whether he had merely made a mistake that any man could make. But after crawling back from hell once, all I had eyes for were conclusive evidence, hard cash, and making them pay the price. Before the meeting ended, the ruling was announced."In light of this se

At the hospital, after a series of emergency examinations, the doctor confirmed that the fetus was fine for now, but strictly ordered me to stay on bed rest for observation.A female officer sat by my hospital bed and took my official statement.I held nothing back and laid all my cards on the table.I handed over those disgusting chat screenshots.I handed over the medical report from the hospital. And the voice recordings of Conrad repeatedly telling me to hide our marriage. The female officer closed her notebook, looked at me with sympathetic eyes, and asked why I waited until today to reveal all this.I turned my head to look at the neon night view outside the window. My tone was surprisingly calm."Because I used to foolishly think that as long as I compromised enough, one day he would willingly acknowledge me as his wife.""I didn't want to force him."When I said that, even I felt pathetic.I had once pinned all my hopes on a pathological liar. The police worked fast.Early the

The other end of the line was silent for a second. Then the operator's voice turned serious."Please stay safe and avoid any further physical contact. Officers will be there shortly."I hung up the phone. No one in the restroom made a sound.Jessica, who was just arrogantly laughing at me, was now pale with fright. She huddled in a corner with her head down.Conrad was the first to snap back to reality. He strode up to me, dropping his voice to a harsh whisper. "Celine, are you crazy? Do you know what kind of nonsense you just told the police?!"I met his violent gaze without backing down."I was just stating the facts."A vein pulsed in his forehead. "We're a legally married couple!"I curled my lips and smiled coldly."Darling, that isn't what you said ten minutes ago. You publicly claimed my marriage certificate was forged. Since we aren't married, you taking advantage of me constitutes sexual assault."As soon as those words came out, even Ivy forgot to squeeze out her tears. She p

The cloudy liquid dripped from the ends of my hair onto the tiles.I raised my hand and expressionlessly wiped away the ruined makeup from the corner of my eye.Harsh laughter echoed in the restroom.Jessica held her phone up at me, the camera pointed right in my face."Come on, Celine, smile for the camera. Aren't you the CEO's wife? Call your husband to come save you."I looked at the camera and suddenly smiled too.Jessica froze for a second.I reached out, snatched her phone, and threw it straight into the toilet next to us.She screamed, "Celine, you crazy bitch!"I ignored her screaming, reached back, and took out my own phone.I quickly sent three high-definition pictures directly to the company Slack channel. The marriage certificate. The valid marriage record lookup from the county clerk. And the first page of the prenuptial equity agreement that Conrad had personally signed back then. The group chat exploded instantly."This state seal and serial number.
