VANESSA dragged her feet into the house, her heels barely making sound against the polished floor. Damien followed behind her, but he wasn’t really with her.

His eyes kept drifting past her, to the main road, to the driveway, like he expected Alessia to suddenly appear. Like she would come running back, breathless, apologizing… like none of it had really ended.

But she didn’t.

Vanessa noticed none of that.

Her mind was elsewhere— on him.

‘He is going to come to me. He has to.’

She slowed slight

ALESSIA sat quietly in front of the dressing mirror, her fingers resting lightly on the edge of the table. She was already dressed, prepared and so ready. At least physically. But emotionally? That was a different story. Her reflection stared back at her— calm face, composed posture, but her eyes betrayed everything. It was filled with nervousness, fear, uncertainty.Four years. It had been four whole years.Four years since she had walked out of her parents’ house with stubborn pride in her chest and Damien’s hand in hers.Four years since she had chosen love over family.Four years since she had ignored every warning her father gave her.And now… she was going back. Her lips parted slowly as she stared at herself.“What if he still hates me?”She whispered it to no one.Her father’s voice still lived clearly in her head. Sharp. Cold. Final.‘If you walk out of this house to marry that man against my will, Alessia, then do not return. You will no longer be my daughter. I will cut you

HER fingers trembled around the phone. Her heart was pounding so hard it felt louder than the machines beside her bed.No.No, it couldn’t be him.It simply couldn’t.Her throat tightened as she forced herself to breathe. She pressed the phone harder against her ear, trying to steady her voice.“I’m sorry, I think you have the wrong number.”Her tone was careful and controlled.“I don’t know who you are, and I definitely don’t know what you are talking about.”Silence again. The kind of silence that made fear grow teeth. Then that same dark voice returned, calm and terrifying.“Vanessa.”Her fingers tightened.“You know me.”She swallowed hard.“No, I don’t.”A pause. Then she forced a dry laugh.“Look, mister, whoever you are, you are obviously mistaken. Maybe you called the wrong woman.”The man chuckled softly, but it wasn’t an amused one. It was dangerous.“You were never good at lying to me.”Vanessa’s face went pale. Her eyes darted to the sleeping baby beside her. Her voice dro

THE evening sun stretched softly across the porch, painting the marble floor in warm gold.Alessia sat quietly on one of the outdoor chairs, her phone in her hand, absentmindedly scrolling through messages she wasn’t really reading. The air was calm and peaceful that evening. For the first time in a long while, peace didn’t feel strange. It felt possible. From the distance, the sound of a car approaching broke the silence. She looked up.A sleek black car glided through the gates and into the compound. She already knew whose it was. A small smile touched her lips. The car came to a stop. The chauffeur stepped out first, walking around to open the back door.A polished shoe touched the ground first, then Carl stepped out.Grey suit, white shirt, no tie. Effortlessly put together. His presence alone had a way of making everything around him feel… intentional. He adjusted the sleeve of his jacket slightly before looking up and immediately, his eyes found hers. Like they always did.His e

THE living room was unusually quiet that afternoon.Vanessa sat curled on the sofa, one hand resting lightly on her swollen belly, the other scrolling lazily through her phone. A half-finished glass of water sat on the table in front of her, forgotten. The air in the house felt heavier than usual, but she couldn’t quite place why.She shifted slightly.A small discomfort pulled through her lower abdomen. She paused. Then exhaled.“It’s nothing,” she murmured to herself, adjusting her position again. But a few seconds later, it came again, stronger and sharper this time. Her brows tightened. She slowly lowered her phone, placing both hands now on her stomach.“…That’s new,” she whispered.A sudden warmth spread beneath her. Her eyes dropped instantly. No. Her breath caught.“Wait…”She stood up abruptly. The moment she did, a rush of fluid followed. Her eyes widened, her lips parted in shock.“Oh no…”She froze. Then panic hit.“Damien!” she called out sharply, voice breaking. “Damien!

NIGHT had swallowed the city whole, and on the top floor of the private VIP wing of St. Vincent Private Medical Center, silence sat like a threat. The room was large, expensive, and cold.Floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooked the glittering city lights below. Machines hummed softly in the background. The scent of antiseptic lingered in the air, sharp and clean. On the bed, half-reclined against white pillows, sat Dante Moreau.Even injured, he looked dangerous.A white bandage wrapped around his right hand, disappearing beneath the sleeve of his black shirt. Bruises marked the side of his jaw and cheekbone, fading into yellow and purple beneath the dim lights. His knuckles were still raw. A healing cut rested just above his brow. But none of that softened him.If anything, it made him look worse.More dangerous. His dark eyes were fixed on the city outside, unmoving, a glass of untouched whiskey resting on the side table beside him.Around the room stood four men in dark suits— hi

THE bar was loud.Blaring music pulsing through the walls, glasses clinking, laughter spilling from every corner.Everyone looked like they were having a good time.Everyone except Damien. He sat alone at the counter, one hand wrapped around a glass, the other running slowly through his hair.He drank and took a pause.Drank again. His eyes stayed fixed somewhere ahead, but not on anything in particular. He was just… lost.“Another,” he muttered. The bartender hesitated for a second, then poured.Damien didn’t even look up. His jaw was tight but his thoughts weren’t.She really left.He exhaled sharply through his nose and took another sip. Then another.A voice cut through the noise behind him.“Damien!”A hand landed on his shoulder. He didn’t react immediately. Then slowly turned his head. Two of his friends stood there, grinning.“Wow,” one of them said, laughing. “You are actually here sulking?”The other chuckled.“Come on, man. You should be celebrating.”Damien frowned slightl
