The NHL tried to calm the chaos with a dramatic announcement.

At a packed press conference in Vancouver, league officials stood behind a wall of cameras.

“Both players have passed every medical and performance test,” the commissioner said. “They are cleared to return to play under strict monitoring.”

The statement split the hockey world in two.

Outside the arena, protesters shouted “Vamp Out!” while another crowd waved jerseys and fake fangs, cheering “Fangs Forever!”

Inside the locker room of the Vancouver Grizzlies, the reaction was more complicated.

Some teammates clapped Alex on the back.

Others just watched him carefully.

Coach didn’t hesitate.

He wrapped Alex in a crushing hug.

“Score goals,” the coach said. “That’s all anyone cares about.”

Brody grinned and bumped his fist.

“Whatever you are now,” he joked, “our line finally works again.”

Secret Practice

Across town, the Calgary Flames were finishing their own practice.

Alex’s phone buzzed with a message from Jake.

Neutral rink tomorrow? Need to see how fast you’ve gotten.

Alex smiled and typed back.

You’ll see.

The next day they met at a quiet training rink outside the city.

On the ice, their chemistry looked almost unreal.

Alex sent perfect passes across the ice, and Jake blasted them into the net with unstoppable one-timers.

Players watching from the bench shook their heads.

“That’s not normal hockey,” one said. “That’s a cheat code.”

During a break they slipped behind a stack of equipment crates.

Jake leaned close.

“League cameras everywhere now,” he whispered. “Careful.”

Alex smirked.

“Since when have we been careful?”

Flames vs. Grizzlies

The final preseason game filled the arena in Calgary with over twenty thousand fans.

The Scotiabank Saddledome roared when the puck dropped.

Alex scored three goals that night.

A hat trick.

Jake answered with incredible defense, shutting down several dangerous plays and stealing the puck from Alex more than once.

To the crowd it looked like a fierce rivalry.

But when they both ended up in the penalty box for a moment, Jake leaned closer.

“Still want forever?” he whispered.

Alex didn’t answer.

He just smiled.

Rooftop Reward

After the game celebration, Jake slipped Alex a note.

Roof.

Later Alex climbed the arena stairs to the rooftop.

City lights stretched along the Bow River below.

Jake stood waiting in a long coat, the cold wind moving his hair.

“That hat trick deserves something special,” Jake said.

They stayed there together a long time, talking quietly while the city buzzed below.

For a moment the world felt simple again.

Fame… and Danger

The next morning the headlines exploded across sports media.

“Vamp Duo Delivers Magic.”

Fans rushed to buy shirts reading “Fangs & Fire.”

TV ratings climbed higher than any preseason game in years.

But the celebration didn’t last long.

Victor Kane posted new accusations online, claiming Jake had been involved in mysterious disappearances going back a hundred years.

Soon darker corners of the internet started reacting.

Forums filled with threats.

Some people were calling for a “hunt.”

A Traitor Inside

That night Brody pulled Alex aside after dinner.

“You need to know something,” he said quietly.

“There’s a league scout named Ramirez. I saw emails he sent to Kane. Team schedules… travel plans… even notes about you.”

Alex’s expression hardened.

“So someone inside the league is feeding him information.”

Brody nodded.

“Looks that way.”

The Plan

Later Alex texted Jake.

Ramirez is the leak.

Jake replied almost instantly.

Then we expose him.

The perfect moment was already coming.

The home opener in Vancouver would be the most watched game of the season.

Media everywhere.

League executives in attendance.

If Ramirez was working with Kane…

That night would reveal everything.

Alex stood alone on the empty rink after practice, the ice glowing under the arena lights.

The season was about to begin.

The crowd would roar.

And somewhere in the stands, enemies would be watching.

Jake’s message appeared on his phone again.

Ready for the show, fireboy?

Alex smiled, his faint fangs catching the light.

Always.
