Chapter 2

Author: Caramel Pudding
I watched as he walked out the door, and I could finally breathe with relief. I picked up my pen and scribbled fast on the exam papers with superhuman speed. I cleared my mind of all the incorrect answers, and all the right answers came flooding back.

All of the multiple-choice answers and blank spaces were filled in with the right answers, and I made sure every step of the calculation was detailed as clearly as possible. I did not even miss out the formula derivation process as I scribbled it down.

Every student around me was scratching their ears and biting the tips of their pens, but I used only 30 minutes to complete the exam. I even triple-checked all my answers. When I was done, I tidied up the draft papers used for the calculations according to sequence and piled them under my exam papers.

If someone tried to find fault with me and accuse me of cheating, the complete calculation process on those draft papers would prove my innocence.

Before the bell rang, I stood up with confidence to hand in my exam papers. When I walked out of the hall, I saw Jacob leaning against the railing of the corridor, bragging to his buddies about how easy the exam was, and he was confident of scoring more than 1,500 on his SATs to get into an Ivy League school.

When Jacob saw me walking out, his eyes lit up, and he put his hand up in a peace sign, which was directed at me. His lips moved, and I could clearly see him mouth the words, "I'll be taking that spot at Kale University."

[Ahhhh! My beloved male lead is so cool when he's being cocky. I love it!]

[The second male lead looks so dumb right now. He will never beat our Jacob!]

[Go, Jacob, Go! Kale University will be sending you the acceptance letter soon!]

I smiled. Jacob probably has no idea that the answers I fed him were all wrong.

When I walked out of the exam hall, I heard a trembling voice speaking pitifully, "Dad, Jonah's out."

I looked up to see Jacob standing next to my father while my mother kept patting him on the back. Some parents and students standing around them turned to look in our direction, curious about what was about to happen.

Jacob's eyes were brimming with tears when I came over, and he spoke louder than usual. "I know that you're often caught copying my answers by the teachers, Jonah, and you're upset about it, but you didn't need to knock over the cereal Mom put out for me this morning.

"I had to take the exam on an empty stomach for two hours, and my hands were trembling when I was completing the last question. I almost passed out right there in the exam hall. Even if you're jealous of my results, you shouldn't mess with my future this way."

His words created a minor commotion around us, and I saw a few students raising their phones to take pictures of me while mumbling, "So, that's him. The one who got a permanent record in his school files for copying Jacob Scott's answers. I knew it was true. That guy is just horrible."

[Gosh, how malicious is Jonah to knock over Jacob's breakfast?]

[Someone like that doesn't deserve to go to university. He should work in the factory as a blue-collar worker!]

[It hurts to see Jacob this way. His results are still great despite starving while taking his exams. How motivational!]

My father's face fell as he pointed at my nose to yell at me, "How did I ever have a lousy son like you? How can you hurt your brother just because you're a hopeless case?"

Even my mother chimed in, "Your father's right. If this affects Jacob's result, you can forget about going to university. You should leave school and find a job right away to pay for Jacob to retake his exams next year."

I watched three of them standing together like a complete family, while I seemed to be an unnecessary outsider. Jacob knocked over that bowl of cereal in the morning on purpose, but he accused me of doing it instead. I was in a hurry to get to the exam hall and did not think about recording any evidence.

Who would believe me now if I tried to explain myself?

That was when the tablet of one of the reporters nearby suddenly popped up with a glaring headline: [Valedictorian's parents fail to extort son of his money, family of three ends up in a fight.]I swept a glance at the tablet's screen, which happened to play a clip of my father slapping Jacob, who fell to the ground, yelling, "You're both so useless! You can't even get 200,000 dollars from him!"My mother grabbed Jacob and started cursing at him, "How dare you say something like that when you're so useless? If you weren't so dumb, we wouldn't end up being humiliated here!" All three of them started fighting each other at the train station, and the crowd started taking pictures and recording videos of them. The comments under the post scrolled up speedily as everyone commented angrily about this family of leeches. The comments that took Jacob's side were buried under their angry replies.[Hahahaha! They turned on each other!]The reporters who watched the clip coughed to hide thei

On the day of my departure, I woke up early, leaving with my backpack and luggage. When I arrived at the train station, I found my parents and Jacob waiting at the ticket checkpoint with a sign that read: [Jonah Scott turned his back against his family.] They attracted a crowd who were taking pictures of them. When my family spotted me, my mother dashed toward me with a roar and grabbed my luggage handle to stop me from leaving. "If you don't transfer 200,000 dollars to my account right now, I won't let you leave this station. We took care of you for 18 years, and we're making it easy on you by asking for this little amount of money. If you dare leave, we'll take this protest to your university gates! We'll make everyone know about what a terrible person you are!"Jacob chimed in with a loud voice and played the victim, "What is 200,000 dollars to you when you have a scholarship worth more than a million in total, Jacob? Can you really bear to see me lose my chance at getting int

The television showed Jacob hiding under my table and tearing up my competition certificates locked in my drawer while cursing at me, "What's the point of that jerk winning so many certificates? He'll just end up being my stepping stone in the end. These are all mine!"Everything was captured clearly, even the crisp sound of his tearing. "Oh, I have this too."I clicked on an audio recording taken on the day when the results were released and my father had forced me to let Jacob take my place as valedictorian. There was also the recording from two days ago, when he wanted me to hand over the 15,000 dollars to Jacob for him to retake his exams, which echoed clearly throughout the living room."This is about your brother's future. It's only right that you give us that 200,000."Before they realized what was happening, I immediately shared the video and audio recordings with the family's group chat with only one accompanying statement: [From today on, I, Jonah Scott, will be cutting

"How dare he make trouble here? Isn't he ashamed of what he did?"A student took out his phone to project the video I posted yesterday onto the hall's big screen. It showed the footage of Jacob knocking over his cereal and placing the blame on me. I had merged it with the video of him crying and maligning me outside the exam hall, which everyone could see clearly."There's also this!"Another student stood up with his phone to project the group chat history onto the screen. It was a text from Jacob last year. [What's the point of studying? Jonah can study hard all he can, but his answers will still be mine in the end. I sleep in class all the time, and I'm the class's top ten scorers. Jonah gives me free answering services during exams.]The chat history of him bragging to his buddies about his special abilities that could hear anything I was thinking was also exposed. This revelation caused a commotion among the audience, and everyone started taking pictures of the stage. The

"I'm using the scholarship for my tuition fees at university. As for that special placement you asked for, I'm not in any position to request something like that. If you want him to go to university, figure out a way for him yourselves."With that, I turned to smile at Mr. Cartman from Kale University. "I've decided to accept the offer for the computer science course at Kale University."Mr. Cartman smiled and gave me the pre-admission letter from the university. "Great. We were waiting for you to say yes. We'll mail you the official admission letter within a week.'The admissions officer from Stonewall University looked disappointed, but he got my contact number and told me to get in touch if I changed my mind at any time before leaving dejectedly. Mr. Cartman talked to me about several items to pay attention to before leaving for the university, and left after that. My parents tried to talk to him again about helping Jacob, but he rejected them with a smile. After sending off M

The second announcement was: [We condemn Jacob Scott for cheating in the school exams on multiple occasions and will hand him over to the education board for disciplinary actions.]It was followed by a bunch of people tagging me in texts. A member of the student council who used to criticize me often in public apologized to me three times in text, claiming that he had been blinded enough to jump on the bandwagon to berate me. He even offered me 100 dollars as compensation for what he did.The rest of my classmates were either busy expressing their surprise or heaping praises on me as the next valedictorian. Several classmates who were convinced I had been cheating deleted all past posts criticizing me, and they proceeded to text me privately to apologize for what they did. After I was done reading the texts, my doorbell rang. It was my class teacher who had arrived with a fruit basket and a box of my favorite strawberry cake. He stood outside awkwardly, and his forehead was covered
