I have nothing to grab onto before the wave hits me and sweeps me up underneath it.I’m not able to keep track of everyone else as I’m spun around underneath the water and slam into the side of the cave wall.My body aches as I try to push myself up out of the water for a breath of air, but I’m just pulls down again. The bag somehow slipping from my shoulder and falling gracefully into the water like it’s not a viper sent here to kill us.I can’t lose that bag. It’s the whole reason we’re here. I have to get it, but I can’t breathe.Strong arms wrap around my waist and start to pull me to the surface. I try to pull away so I can get the bag, but they refuse to let go.My head flies out of the water, and I start pulling in precious breaths of air the second it does. Goddess.I turn in Griffon’s arms and shake my head, “We have to get the bag.” I tell him and he shakes his head breathing roughly as he continues to hold us above the water. “No! I’m not risking your life, Aspen!” He shout
I walk around the stacks. There are a ton of witchy looking books and Finn and Randy start going through those, while everyone else starts at different places around the room.I think it’s more shock than anything as I make no move to touch a single thing in here.It all looks like it’s exactly where it’s supposed to be and chaotic minds organization. There are things here that have to be centuries old.“What do you think?” Griffon whispers from beside me. I glance up at him, then back at the room. “I think, there’s no way we can go through all of this.” I tell him and he takes a deep breath looking around the room again too. “Yeah. I did not expect to find so much down here. Does anything feel like it might be helpful?” He asks, and I shrug. “I’m not getting anything yet, but there has to be something down here.” I tell him and he nods.We search for an hour before Lenny throws an old dress out of an old trunk. “This is pointless. Anything important is probably hidden in some other s
My gaze moves passed the hole in the ground to where the man sits dead on the chair. “Did you get everything you needed first?” I ask, turning towards Griffon. He shakes his head, “He took poison, he killed himself before we even had a chance to find out anything.” He explains and I look at the guy again.I have no love lost for this man, but it’s still hard to see a dead body. Especially after the vision I just had. I squeeze my eyes closed, trying to erase that image from my mind. When my eyes open again, Griffon’s standing in front of me. Blocking my view from the dead man in the chair.I give him a grateful look before starting to move towards the hole in the ground, pulling out my phone and shining the flashlight into it.I take a deep breath as a hard breeze that comes from nowhere waves over my skin. I look up and none of them seemed to have felt it, so I take that as my sign.I stick my feet into the hole. “What are you doing?” Griffon growls and I turn to him. “Going in.” I r
My blood is boiling as I push this piece of shit down the stairs. He was part of my parents being tortured and on top of all my feelings towards that, I can’t stop seeing Aspen’s crying face from replaying in my mind.I think I’ve seen her cry a total of about three times the entire time I known her. She doesn’t like to show weakness. She doesn’t like to be seen that way, which is why I sent all her friends out of the room. I could tell they were worried about her, and whatever it was she saw that made her react that way, but I also know her.I think the only thing that had her accepting my comfort was the mate bond, normally she’d want to deal with it all by herself. I’m glad she let me help though; I don’t think I could have handled it if she wouldn’t have let me comfort her when she was having so many emotions.I’m terrified by what she saw, I didn’t even see it myself but seeing her so rattled tells me all I need to know. Whatever vision she had can not come true. We have to find
My eyes shoot open, and I’m staring directly into Griffon’s. His worried gaze traveling over my features. “What happened? Are you okay?” He asks quickly.I slowly sit up, and he starts to pull his body away from mine, but I cling to him. Needing his strength for a moment after what I just saw.I’d be a fool to believe what just happened was coincidence, but I also don’t want to believe that was real. I don’t want to believe that’s going to happen. My eyes find his worried ones again as I sit in his arms, “We need to work faster.” I tell him, then finally stand up, and leave the room that Cam, Lenny and I were searching. They all follow me out, as I start searching desperately around the house. Trying to get any feeling I can.“What did you see?” Griffon asks, his voice taking a hinge of fear. I don’t know if it’s from me passing out, or if he’s scared about what I saw, but I don’t care right now.I keep searching, opening drawers, and moving couch cushions, but I don’t feel anything.
We slowly make our way up the stairs, Griffon staying close to my side. The door closes behind Randy, like it can sense he’s the last person to enter the stairwell. Weird. Is there magic in the walls, or is someone fucking with us?We finally make it up the mountain of stairs, and there’s another door waiting for us.But this is just a normal door you’d find in one of our houses. Weird. I expected another dungeon or some trap to be at the end of this, not just a normal door.I don’t want to get my hopes up to quickly though, I guess this could still be a trap.I reach forward to grab the handle, but Griffon stops me. Pulling my hand back and replacing it with his own. I look at him like any independent woman would, with my eyes narrowed and a scowl on my face. He just chuckles softly and shakes his head.I’m stronger than I look. His hand slowly turns the knob and when he swings the door open, we see… A kitchen…What? It’s just a normal kitchen. We all slowly and quietly make our way
