He’s the one that use to take me to the creek behind his house and jumped in mud puddles and caught toads with. He’d protect me when someone was picking on me and bandage my knees when I fell down.
My mind wanders back to a time when we were friends. “Liam! They’re coming!” I yell over the creek to where he’s fighting the invisible monsters. Liam runs over to me and jumps over a small opening in the creek, as I slip and fall into a muddy hill and pretend to be falling down. Liam grabs for my arms and pulls me up, throwing himself in front of me to face the oncoming monsters. “Don’t worry Amy. I’ll never let anyone hurt you.” He tells me as he looks into my eyes, then turns to face the monsters again. He loses his stick amongst the fight and looks back at me with worry in his eyes. “Run!” He yells, I look at him scared. Not for myself, but him. I run into the trees and find another stick for him to use and run back to him. “Liam!” I yell and throw him the stick when he turns around. He smiles his award winning smile at me and turns to defeat the rest of the monsters. He lays down the stick panting hard and walks over to me. “We did it, Amy. We killed them all.” I smile up at him as he pulls me into his side. “Liam! Amy!” His mom yells to us from the house. We both look at each other and laugh and start heading inside for lunch. His mom is not going to be happy to see us covered in mud.
We were happy go lucky kids, without a care in the world. That all changed when Liam turned twelve, it was time for him to start his Alpha training. Our parents both sat us down separately and my mom explained that we live inside a wolf pack, but that we were humans. Every time I tried to ask her why we even live here, being the only humans, she would always find a way around the question.
I couldn’t hide the fact I was a human anymore, while all my friends started getting their wolves, and I didn’t. They could smell the difference between me and them. Now, the only friend I have left is Mia. She’s the only one who stood by my side through all the bullying and beatings. It was hard losing everyone, but I only have to finish my junior and senior year and then I’ll be leaving.
I hope my mom comes with me, but the fact that she’s stayed here all these years, I don’t think she wants to leave. Regardless of Liam and I’s falling out, my mom and his have remained inseparable. They say we’ll figure things out as we get older, I say they’re crazy.
Luna Julia is Liams mom, she treats me as her own, regardless of everything. I don’t go over as often anymore, mostly just once a year on my birthday, she has me over for a dinner to celebrate.
Seeing Liam reminds me of everything I’ve lost, so any other attempt is usually turned down. Besides Liam never shows up for my birthday dinner, so it’s usually okay. She never lets me forget that she and Alpha John care about and love me though.
To say it’s unfortunate to be a human amidst a wolf pack, is an understatement. As soon as Clara and her minions, Olive and Kylie found out it was the end for me. I’ve suffered many injuries either directly or indirectly from the she devils. That’s what Mia and I call them. Mia has had her share, since she chooses to remain friends with me. Though, she still has an uncanny ability to talk and be friendly with everybody, except the she devils. I’ve tried to let her go, but she doesn’t allow it, saying that we’re in all of this together. She’s been my saving grace other than my mom.
My mom has been everything to me since I was born. My dad was never apart of the picture, just another thing my mom keeps to herself. Honestly, after sixteen years of never even receiving a birthday card from him, I could care less. He clearly doesn’t care about me, I see no reason to care for him.
I jump out of the shower and run through my morning routine, since I’m late this morning. Once I’m ready in my black crop top and jeans, I run out the front door and stop in my tracks.
I see Liam leaving his house to get in his car, regardless of everything, no one can deny how handsome he is, he’s show stopping. Much more so than the boy I use to know. Along with the getting taller, he’s filled out more to. His muscles strain at his shirt, daring someone to try and fight him. He’s really started growing into his future Alpha status.
I watch as he gets into his car, seemingly without a care in the world. He’s got his whole life figured out. He’s going to be Alpha of this pack once his father steps down. He has a beautiful girlfriend, it’s Clara so I can’t say the perfect girlfriend. According to her they will be mates and live happily ever after. And all of the friends in the world, everybody wants to be friends with the Alpha, but it also comes with built in friends as well.
Walker is his future Beta, Cole his future Delta, and Dallas his, or should I say ‘Clara’s’ future Gamma. They were all friends before they turned twelve, and their bond has only gotten stronger, when everybody started getting their wolves.
The house looks pristine. Like he’s had a cleaner coming here everyday and a gardener to keep the outside looking brand new. It surprises me.Clearly, he took the opposite route with our house then I did with my moms. Which I couldn’t be happier about. I would have been heartbroken if this house was burnt to ash when we got back.I stand in the living room with Dallas and Liam, and just look around for awhile. Everything’s still here right where we left it. If it wasn’t so freaking clean, it’d be like we never left. The house was never dirty, but it was lived in. It always showed a family, and all their friends occupied the house, but now it looks more like a museum.I grab Liam’s hand, and he squeezes mine in return, “Come on, Angel.” He pulls me, and leads me up the stairs and to our bedroom.Dallas stays in the living room, giving us some much needed space to be alone.I go straight to our room, wanting nothing more than to lay down on our bed after not having a comfortable bed for
I grunt frustrated and lay my head in my hands. “You put your mate in a cell?” I ask Griffon after he tells me everything that’s happened since we left. He nods, looking over at the window, “She tried to kill me. I mean… I know now that she didn’t really want to kill me, but at the time I thought she did.” He explains and I sigh.I shake my head and change to subject, “The stage is coming down, and we’re putting the park back. Your mom and I are not staying here, we’ll be heading back home. I’m getting rid of most of your safety rules. You’re going to explain to the pack how you acted out of fear and concern, then you’re going to apologize.”His teeth clench and he shakes his head, “I may not have done everything right, but everything I did was to keep the pack safe. You said yourself mom said that she wanted to get to us, and she couldn’t.” He says and I roll my eyes, “She couldn’t get to Heather either. And you know why? She used other witches to protect her pack. She didn’t take aw
Hazel and Cole don’t stay in the office for long. Hazel announcing they’re going to go see what books they have that’ll help with all this.Griffon tells everyone else that there’s food waiting for us in the dining room, and everyone except Griffon, Liam and I go.Liam walks over to Griffon’s desk, and forces him to move. Griffon stands up and Liam sits down. Griffon stares at him. “What does this mean? I’m not an Alpha anymore?” He asks, and I’m honestly not sure.I don’t know if Liam will want to take back his position or just help him fix the wrongs of what he’s done.I look over at Liam, as he starts rummaging through everything on the desk. He grunts frustrated as Griffon continues to stare at him. “I don’t know, Griffon.” He growls and then stands up and looks out the giant window overlooking the pack.I walk over to him and wrap my arms around his waist and look out at the pack with him. He wraps his arm around my shoulders and keeps me close to his chest.I know his mind is re
Driving up to the pack, I think I’ve set myself up for what I’m going to see.I’m wrong.Griffon’s car in front of us stops at the gate… No… Wall, and he talks to the guard that walks up to him.I can see the fear in the guards eyes from here.Goddess.Dallas must sense where my mind is, because he reaches out and grabs my hand.He doesn’t speak. I doubt he knows what to say. He helped do this. He helped Griffon create this nightmare.Aspen looks back at me through the rearview mirror, her eyes worried like she doesn’t know if I can handle what we’re about to walk in to.I give her a curt nod and lay my head down on Liam’s shoulder, his arm around me tightens. The wall opens and allows all of us to drive through. The guard looks into the car as we pass, and his eyes widen when he sees Liam and me.I try to smile. I really do, but it falls short.‘Aw. All this for little old me. It’s sweet.’ The witch speaks, but I ignore her. It’s what I’ve decided is best. I don’t want to engage with
Aspen leads us back to her new house. In her new pack and that just doesn’t sit right with me.I hate that things have gone so wrong since we’ve been gone, but I agree with Liam, we have other things to concern ourselves with.I don’t know how much stronger this witch is, but if she only needs one night a year to do what my dad did in twelve nights a year, that frightens me.I’m terrified at what the death toll will be if we allow it. I know I won’t allow it. I know I’ll do whatever I have to do to stop it, but I also know I’m going to be fighting everybody when it comes to that.Liam won’t ever just agree to let me end this.‘You won’t be able to anyway.’ The witches voice echos in my mind, and I grit my teeth. What does she know? She crackles, “A lot more than you. You think your dad never woke up after killing his family and tried to end it all? It won’t be possible. Nothing you do will stop this.’ She tells me and I close my eyes as Liam leads me up the stairs to the house.I open
“Everybody get the fuck out.” I shout at all of them.I ask one fucking thing, for them to leave her out of it, and I come back to find her on the fucking floor while they stand around shouting at each other.“Liam.” Mia starts, but the look I give her has her nodding and starting to leave.I hold onto Amy, trying to process what she said to me. The witch is fucking talking to her. Goddess.I remember the memory of when we saw her dad arguing with someone inside his head.I pick her up and take her over to her bed, as she clings to me and hides her face in my chest. I can’t believe this is happening. I thought we were done. I thought we had killed her, but we played right into her hands. Gave her exactly what she wanted.Everybody leaves except for Dallas, and I make myself okay with that, considering he was the only one that seemed to be trying to help her. When I sit her down on the bed, she looks up at me scared. “Liam. It’s only going to get worse. What do we do?” She begs me for
