He’s the one that use to take me to the creek behind his house and jumped in mud puddles and caught toads with. He’d protect me when someone was picking on me and bandage my knees when I fell down.
My mind wanders back to a time when we were friends. “Liam! They’re coming!” I yell over the creek to where he’s fighting the invisible monsters. Liam runs over to me and jumps over a small opening in the creek, as I slip and fall into a muddy hill and pretend to be falling down. Liam grabs for my arms and pulls me up, throwing himself in front of me to face the oncoming monsters. “Don’t worry Amy. I’ll never let anyone hurt you.” He tells me as he looks into my eyes, then turns to face the monsters again. He loses his stick amongst the fight and looks back at me with worry in his eyes. “Run!” He yells, I look at him scared. Not for myself, but him. I run into the trees and find another stick for him to use and run back to him. “Liam!” I yell and throw him the stick when he turns around. He smiles his award winning smile at me and turns to defeat the rest of the monsters. He lays down the stick panting hard and walks over to me. “We did it, Amy. We killed them all.” I smile up at him as he pulls me into his side. “Liam! Amy!” His mom yells to us from the house. We both look at each other and laugh and start heading inside for lunch. His mom is not going to be happy to see us covered in mud.
We were happy go lucky kids, without a care in the world. That all changed when Liam turned twelve, it was time for him to start his Alpha training. Our parents both sat us down separately and my mom explained that we live inside a wolf pack, but that we were humans. Every time I tried to ask her why we even live here, being the only humans, she would always find a way around the question.
I couldn’t hide the fact I was a human anymore, while all my friends started getting their wolves, and I didn’t. They could smell the difference between me and them. Now, the only friend I have left is Mia. She’s the only one who stood by my side through all the bullying and beatings. It was hard losing everyone, but I only have to finish my junior and senior year and then I’ll be leaving.
I hope my mom comes with me, but the fact that she’s stayed here all these years, I don’t think she wants to leave. Regardless of Liam and I’s falling out, my mom and his have remained inseparable. They say we’ll figure things out as we get older, I say they’re crazy.
Luna Julia is Liams mom, she treats me as her own, regardless of everything. I don’t go over as often anymore, mostly just once a year on my birthday, she has me over for a dinner to celebrate.
Seeing Liam reminds me of everything I’ve lost, so any other attempt is usually turned down. Besides Liam never shows up for my birthday dinner, so it’s usually okay. She never lets me forget that she and Alpha John care about and love me though.
To say it’s unfortunate to be a human amidst a wolf pack, is an understatement. As soon as Clara and her minions, Olive and Kylie found out it was the end for me. I’ve suffered many injuries either directly or indirectly from the she devils. That’s what Mia and I call them. Mia has had her share, since she chooses to remain friends with me. Though, she still has an uncanny ability to talk and be friendly with everybody, except the she devils. I’ve tried to let her go, but she doesn’t allow it, saying that we’re in all of this together. She’s been my saving grace other than my mom.
My mom has been everything to me since I was born. My dad was never apart of the picture, just another thing my mom keeps to herself. Honestly, after sixteen years of never even receiving a birthday card from him, I could care less. He clearly doesn’t care about me, I see no reason to care for him.
I jump out of the shower and run through my morning routine, since I’m late this morning. Once I’m ready in my black crop top and jeans, I run out the front door and stop in my tracks.
I see Liam leaving his house to get in his car, regardless of everything, no one can deny how handsome he is, he’s show stopping. Much more so than the boy I use to know. Along with the getting taller, he’s filled out more to. His muscles strain at his shirt, daring someone to try and fight him. He’s really started growing into his future Alpha status.
I watch as he gets into his car, seemingly without a care in the world. He’s got his whole life figured out. He’s going to be Alpha of this pack once his father steps down. He has a beautiful girlfriend, it’s Clara so I can’t say the perfect girlfriend. According to her they will be mates and live happily ever after. And all of the friends in the world, everybody wants to be friends with the Alpha, but it also comes with built in friends as well.
Walker is his future Beta, Cole his future Delta, and Dallas his, or should I say ‘Clara’s’ future Gamma. They were all friends before they turned twelve, and their bond has only gotten stronger, when everybody started getting their wolves.
I feel the blood drain from my face and my hands start searching for my keys.‘She could die.’ The words play on repeat in my head.Nadia walks into the room and looks over at me, “Are you okay?” She asks, and I shake my head. “My mom’s in the hospital.” I inform her, and something flashes across her face that I can’t place.I choose to ignore it as I finally find my keys and grab them off the counter, turning and walking for the door.Nadia grabs my arm and turns me to look at her. “You’re going?” She asks, and I look at her confused. She stutters a few times, “I… It’s just… I figured with the way she treated us…” She doesn’t finish and I continue to look at her like she’s crazy.“She’s my mom.” I tell her and she nods, then shakes her head. “Sometimes family is the people you decide. Your mom stopped being your mom when she decided she didn’t care about you.” She says and I take a deep breath.Doesn’t care about me? Honestly, how I’ve taken this whole fight was she was caring too mu
We hear the door click from the inside, and I start to charge in. Dallas grabs my shoulder and pulls me back, “It could be a trap.” He whispers and I look at the door, then back at him.Normally, I wouldn’t care, but if I’m stuck in a trap, I won’t be able to help Amy. I have to be able to help her.I nod my head to tell him I hear him, then slowly start to open the door. Walker pulls me back and pushes in front of me.Maybe it’s not the best idea to have your friends as people who are meant to protect you. I don’t want him hurt as bad as I don’t want myself hurt.He slowly walks in, then turns his head to the side. His eyes widen and then he’s behind the door. I rush in after him and see Amy unconscious and covered in blood. I can tell some of its not hers, but the majority of it is.My knees slam to the ground next to her, I grab her wrist, while Walker puts pressure on her side and Dallas grabs her other wrist.I can hear her heartbeat. It’s weak but it’s there. Cole’s the last to
“We don’t think we’re superior.” I growl, and she clicks her tongue. “You wolves have been forcing my kind to hide. You always need something, because you’re always busy getting yourselves in scrapes you can’t get out of by yourself. You would be dead right now if not for Hazel.” She says shaking her head.My eyes narrow, “It was a witch that started that. If they never changed my father, I wouldn’t have needed her help.” I grit out. She shrugs, “A witch still had to fix it.” She song sings. My anger only grows in her presence. My need to kill this witch, that has only caused me problems. “Maybe we are superior, if you have to hide from us.” I tell her, because apparently, I can’t keep my mouth shut right now.She turns glaring at me, “It’s simply numbers. You guys have us beat three hundred to one, if not more.” She stops for a second, as if she needs to consider it, then looks back up at me, “Yep! More.” She says all perky, and it just makes me want to rip her throat out more.“Enou
As soon as I hear the voice, I spin around and some sort of dust is blown in my face and next thing I know my body flies backwards. Slamming into the wall and causing a sharp pain to go from my spine to the back of my head.I yank at the invisible chains locking me to the wall, but it’s useless. I’m trapped.I look up and see a girl, I would say she’s barely even twenty. Short pixie cut with ginger hair. Sharp jawline and eyes so dark, they look black. She tilts her head to look at me. While I try to contact anyone, but I can’t.A smile slowly grows on her face as she continues to study me.“You can keep trying, but no one will be able to hear you. They can’t even feel that you’re in trouble. You’re cut off from everybody, even your wolf.” She looks down at the table and grabs a small bottle full of powder and looks at it like it's her prized possession. “This powder is quite amazing.” She says as she begins studying the powder with a creepy smile.I look around the room and see a tab
‘Liam’ I hear her worried voice in my head, right before I feel the connection cut off.‘Amy?’ Nothing.‘Amy!’ Nothing.I was already on my way home anyway and the last place I know she was, was in the office, working on the funerals with Dallas and Nick.My foot slams down on the pedal and I race the rest of the way home.Walker looks over at me concerned, “What’s going on?” He asks, and my gaze turns to him. “Hopefully, I’m overreacting. I can’t get Amy through mind-link.” I explain to him, and he goes silent for a moment.I look over at him to see if he was able to and with a slight shake of his head, I know he isn’t able to either.Goddess, please let me be overreacting.Maybe she just cut the link. But why would she call for me, then cut the link? The car comes to a screeching halt outside the house, Walker and I are out of the car instantly, barely letting the car be put in park before we race for the house.I run up the stairs and into the office, the office door standing open
My whole bodies feels numb as I plan the funeral of four people that have no body for us to say goodbye too.The past few days have just been running through the motions and praying we can figure this out before anyone else around here falls pray to the monster doing this.Liam is out with Walker dealing with pack business, Dallas is asleep in Liam’s chair, while Nick sits in front of me, eyeing Dallas sadly.I look up from the papers on my desk and watch him, watch Dallas. “Nick.” I whisper, not wanting to wake Dallas up. “Hum?” He hums to me, then looks over at me slowly, like it’s hard for him to take his eyes off of Dallas.“Your worried.” I state and he takes a deep breath and finally, nods. “I love you, Aims and I love Liam, and I understand why he wants to keep both of you safe. I get it. But who’s keeping him safe? Who’s making sure he comes home to me when this is all over?” He asks, staring into my soul.I look over at Dallas and open my mouth, but no words come out, because
