CHAPTER 149: Pathetic Reflection

Maverick’s POV:

I felt the familiar softness of her lips against mine, and in that fleeting moment, I wanted nothing more than to be forever trapped here—lost in her warmth, her fire, her everything.

But the moment barely lasted.

Before I could even deepen the kiss, let my lip dance against hers, before I could pull closer and let myself drown in her, Pyra shoved me back with enough force to send me stumbling.

The warmth I felt disappeared, replaced by the cold of the atmosphere.

Then—crack.

A sharp painful sting erupted across the left of my chin as her palm connected with my skin, the sound of the slap echoing through the kitchen like a gunshot.

My head snapped to the side due to the force of the slap, and for a brief second, all I could register was the biting, sharp and painful feeling left in its wake.

Slowly, I turned to her, and she was fuming. Her breath came out sharp as her chest rose and fell in quick, furious breath, her crimson ey

CHAPTER 150: The Luna In BloodMoonLuna Elodie’s POV:The line went dead and I dropped the phone, my fingers lingering over the screen as confusion settled in my chest, a small crease forming around my brows. What is actually going on? Maverick never takes an interest in things without reason, but this… This felt different. It felt deeper. I shifted in my chair, trying to find a comfortable position to think, but unease had already seeped into my bones and muscles, causing taunting and discomfort. My office—the Alpha’s office, usually a place of comfort since Maverick’s trip to the FireHeart pack, now felt like a space filled with unanswered questions. “He’s taking this man—Steven Stoneclaw’s case—to another level,” I muttered, placing my chin in my hand, my elbow resting on the desk. My mind scaled through many possibilities, trying to piece together the fragments of information I had. “What did this man do that could drag Maverick’s attention this way?”Steven StoneClaw. The na

CHAPTER 151: A Grimy Past AffairLuna Elodie’s POVI chuckled, tilting my head slightly, disbelief colouring my tone. “I fail to understand you, Alpha Sam. What did you just say?”There was no smile on his lips, the usual constant smirk all but history, but his eyes held something deeper—calculated curiosity, or perhaps something far more dangerous, but I also saw—truth. He leaned back in his chair, swirling the remaining wine in his glass. “Excuse me?” He asked smoothly, “Is it about the part where Alpha Thomson had a son of such age or what were you talking about?” He chuckled a little, staring at his glass. “Maybe I took a little too much wine.”I narrowed my eyes, studying him. Was he playing games? Or was he being truthful? Sam was many things—a strategist, a manipulator, a man who never let his guard down—but a liar? No. Not unless it fully benefits him, and from what I could think of, this won’t benefit him even in the slightest; I would make sure of that. “And here I was fla

CHAPTER 152: Dig Up Dirt Luna Elodie’s POV: Hours had passed since I returned from the BloodMoon Pack. I had showered, had my dinner, and now paced my chamber, deep in thought. The meeting with Alpha Sam went smoother than I would have thought, and now, I agitatedly waited for his reply. I needed answers and I wanted them immediately. The crackling fire in the hearth did little to warm the cold creeping into my bones under the soft clothes I wore. He should have sent a message by now if my calculations were right. My eyes caught a glimpse of my phone flashing and I rushed over, seeing Maverick’s name as the caller ID. Dammit. I didn’t want to speak with him yet. I haven’t gotten the information I needed from Alpha Sam. I had been waiting for Sam’s call, an email, or even a messenger but I was greeted with none of that. I couldn’t reply to Maverick when I hadn’t gotten even a reply or answer to what I asked for. This was the first time Maverick had ever asked for my help in digg

CHAPTER 153 : Not The Prisoner Third person’s POV:The bedroom was large and vast, bathed in the soft glow from the chandelier hung high from the room, seated perfectly on the ceiling as its glow cast radiant light against the deep, midnight-blue walls. The air smelled of fresh lilies and aged books, a mixture of both elegance and slight solitude, one not favored by one woman in particular. The same woman who stood by the window, her silhouette framed against the clearing beyond. She was still—almost eerily so—her fingers grazing the barricaded window as if reaching for something beyond it that couldn’t be seen, or someone. Her long black hair cascaded down her back, giving her the structure of a perfect portrait of how still she was. She was dressed in a simple white nightgown and nothing else. Her whole focus was outside the window, hating the fact she was kept locked like a prisoner, her sense of freedom inhibited by this barricade, one she so desperately wanted to claw at. “Do

CHAPTER 154: Midnight VisitMaverick’s POVI paced in the room, already exhausted from everything. The weight of frustration sat heavily on my chest as I clutched my phone, my grip tightening with each passing second that passed by. I had been calling nonstop, yet my mother kept my calls busy. Every time I tried again, the line went straight to voicemail. It was obvious she was avoiding me. My breath came out sharp as I ran a hand through my hair, trying to calm my nerves but to no avail. Everything was going bad, the walls of the guesthouse felt like they were closing in, suffocating me in complete silence. I checked the screen of my phone, waiting for it to flash with an expected call but nothing. I needed answers and I wanted them now. With a deep inhale, I forced myself to think logically. Maybe she was just busy. Maybe she wasn’t deliberately ignoring me.But I knew better.Mother wasn’t one of the ordinary things. She could be most secretive when she wants to. If she truly h

CHAPTER 155: Not Forever Pyra’s POV:My breath caught in my throat as Maverick lips pressed against mine. It was a kiss unlike any I had ever experienced—wild, urgent, filled with want and raw intensity. His hands instinctively reached for the back of my head, gripping me tightly like he never wanted to let me go. I didn’t want it to end but I had to. I tried to move away, but Maverick held on tight, refusing to let me bulge out. His tongue slid into mine, massaging and dancing around it. I was strong, yes, but not that strong. I can resist many things but this mustn’t have been one of them. I couldn’t help but melt into the kiss, my lips parting to allow Maverick's tongue to deepen the connection. I didn’t know where I was again as everything melted away like candy; sweet, delicious, and short-lasting. It was only two of us, lost in the intensity of the moment. Maverick's grip on my head tightened, his fingers tangling in my hair as he devoured my mouth. I felt his passion, his d

CHAPTER 156: Poisoned Darkness Third person’s POV:Minister Elais sat on a chair, his face grim and serious as he held up a photograph containing two individuals. His eyes thinned into slits as he continued staring at the photo, different emotions fought in his mind but one was most prevalent; anger. Elais grumbled under his breath, trying to refrain from shouting. “I knew it, I knew he was going to be an imposter.”This was a serious and delicate situation that should be handled effectively and not waste any time over, he thought, running a hand through his rough beard. Immediately he found out what had been hidden in the shadows for a while now, he immediately called Alpha Rhaella, seeking her attention for she needed to be told first but there wasn’t a reply. “She must know this before anyone else.” He muttered again, still deep in thought. He had seen the closeness Alpha Rhaella had had with that imposter, and he didn’t want his Alpha to look like a fool when the secrets got ou

The mention of his name sent a flash of images running through my mind, causing a blush to form on my cheeks. One thing that was for certain is that I do not regret what I had done. No. I do not. I wanted everything that happened and even more, but what hurt me the most was that I had given myself to Maverick yet again on a silver platter. I ran a hand through my face, wiping as much water as possible but more kept falling. What was happening to me? I shouldn’t be this weak of feelings. It was only fleeting, and I’m sure this was what Maverick had always wanted. Then when he was done, he would only discard me like some used toy

She collapsed beside him, her hands tapping on his cheek to wake him up. “Caspian. Caspian, can you hear me? Wake up.” She could hear his heartbeat, but it was faint. Too faint. She stared at his crushed neck, regretting why she hadn’t realized her full potential earlier. She would have saved him. “Please, wake up.” Her tears dropped down to Caspian’s face. Slowly, Caspian’s eyes fluttered open, focusing on Pyra’s beautiful face. “Rh—aella…” he choked, his voice box crushed by his father. Pyra quickly shushed him. “Don’t talk. You’ll cause more internal bleeding. Just hold on, okay, I’ll get the paramedic. Veronica would save you.” She rushed to go call for help, but felt a weak hand holding hers. Though not now.”Her eyes turned sharply, so fast that it felt like falling out of her eye socket until they rested on an older woman with an uncanny resemblance to Rhaella. “Great-grandmother Esra.”Esra smiled, nodding. “Great, you still remember me.”“W—where am I? I was…. Caspian’s fists clenched at his sides, knuckles whitening beneath the strain. His wolf snarled within him, a guttural growl echoing in the depths of his chest, demanding he do something—anything—but he stood rooted, a silent witness to the scene tearing him apart. What could he do, really? The pain was too much. Rhaella would never accept him, not after he betrayed her trust. Not after he caused her child to be kidnapped, an aim he mostly came to the FireHeart pack for. And there was the pain of losing his sister. He had always wanted a sibling, but he never knew he had one just around the corner all these while. And she hated him. Because of Duncan, his father. And lastly, there was the pain i

Let the one chance left for redemption be the one to prevail. Let this cup not overflow with the blood of the retribution.” She prayed, knowing her prayer would be useless because what would happen next has already been set in stone. No one, not even the most powerful of mages or witches could change it. Fate is a fragile but powerful thing. Once it’s decided, it’s sealed forever. Meanwhile, Maverick has reached side to side with Rhaella as they both glared at Duncan who watched them with a plastered smirk despite being comforted by two powerful werewolves. “You two team up to beat me?” Duncan teased. “Is this how weak Lunaria has g

Slowly and delicately as if any heavy action could shatter the moment, her fingers traced the invisible threads of fate woven around the globe’s surface. In the depths of the globe, war had found its rhythm again. Fire. Claws. Blood. The human armies advanced toward the RedClaw pack. It was all playing out again—like the Dance of the Crimson Ashes, she had seen long ago.Her face was solemn and stained with unshed tears, a sad smile plastered on her face. She knew how the story would end before the globe even showed it. She leaned forward, whispering to no one, “Let the root be removed by the gardener, and let the house burn by its household, even though they burn with it. Even though the big oak tree crushes the

I too was breathing hard, exhaustion gripping in as the scent of blood perforated the air. It wasn’t just Ember’s or mine—it was like it was our past, our pain, and our father’s favoritism. My fist clenched beside me, the world spinning around me in a chaos I couldn’t control. Ember was good, I must give her that. She moved like lightning, rage guiding her every step. The blade she held in one hand sliced across my shoulder and I staggered back, my knees nearly giving away. But I didn’t fall.I couldn’t. Not this time. Not when I have people depending on me. Not when I haven’t gotten my retribution. “You’re weak, brother,” she spat, her eyes glowing with the same red madness that burned in our father’s. The way she mentioned the word ‘brother’ I could feel the amount of hatred and anger from that single word. “Always holding back. Alway

Even with his werewolf hearing, he couldn’t hear the words being spoken between the two amidst the chaos of war. Maverick turned, seeing the outcome of the war. The backups he had called were yet to arrive. It was as if the goddess heard his words because immediately, the ground trembled beneath Maverick’s boots.
