Chapter 5

Patrick Garba above...

Song: Taylor Swift - Sparks Fly.

Zara.

Lola was the devil.

I really disliked that girl with a passion. Jealousy will not kill her.

So after my crying session. Louis gave me some more pep talk before I was able to calm down. I was finally confident that I could handle the job, or so I thought.

Louis introduced me to his secretary and personal assistant Chinonso or Nonso for short. He was really sweet and I liked him.

Then he took me to Lola's office to 'shadow' her for the rest of the week. I initially thought she would be showing me the ropes and give me a tour at least but this girl turned me into a freaking messenger.

"Chizaram go and get this."

"Chizaram go and get that"

"This girl, I need coffee."

"Chizaram buy me some food"

"Chizaram, Chizaram, Chizaram"

I didn't know how my cousin even proposed to the she devil.

I was so exhausted by the time it was 12pm and the day wasn't even close to an end. I hadn't even seen Louis all day.

"Chizaram!" I heard the witch call my name and I grumpily stood up from the chair outside her office. I sat there thinking that if she wasn't seeing me, she wouldn't remember to send me any message.

I stomped to the front of her office and straightened myself out, putting on a pleasant expression.

I opened the door, I didn't want to give her the courtesy of knocking.

"Yes?" I answered as I stepped inside the office. She was at her desk, typing something on her laptop.

"Couldn't you knock?" She asked and I fought the urge to roll my eyes. I purposely didn't say anything to her.

"Take" she said, giving me an office file, which I collected with anticipation. I believed she finally wanted to teach me my job.

"Take it to Garba Corp. The CEO must sign it today. Make sure he signs it, if not don't come back." She ordered. My shoulders sagged. But isn't that a job for a secretary?

"Isn't that an Assistant's job?" I asked, not seeing why I had to run all these errands when her Assistant was here.

She glared at me and stood to her feet. "You do not question me, now get lost."

I glared at her, and stomped out of her office, slamming the door as loud as possible.

Who does she think she is. When I become COO fully, she'll know who's the boss.

------

I got down from the company car when we got to Garba Corp. I had to ask a driver to take me and he almost said no until I said 'Okafor' then he started to apologize and even opened the car door for me to enter. I laughed, the power of the Last name.

The place was as big and mighty as Kaph Group but a bit bigger. I stepped into the front door that also opened by itself, then I stepped into the central building and was greeted with a very breathtaking lobby.

I walked to the receptionist and she smiled at me.

"Good afternoon ma, welcome to Garba corp. How may I be of service?." She said cheerfully. I liked her already. At least one person was happy to see me.

"I'm from Kaph Group. I'm here to see Mr Garba the CEO." I told her, smiling at her too.

"What's your name?" She asked me.

"Chizaram Okafor" I said and she gasped, her mouth was practically hitting the floor.

"THE Okafor?!" She almost yelled.

I laughed, "Yes" I grinned at her and she smiled.

"It's so good to meet you. I'm Angel." She introduced and I shook her hand.

"Just a minute" she said and turned her back to me, holding a telephone to her ear. She muttered a few words I wasn't hearing and then dropped the phone, turning back to me.

"Mr Garba's office is on the 15th floor. Just take the elevator. His Assistant knows you're coming." She said and I thanked her.

As I turned around to leave, I bumped into something very hard, making the papers in the file fly everywhere.

"Oh my God!" I exclaimed and started to pack the papers, not wanting to lose anything. I noticed someone else bent to help me pack.

"I'm so sorry for that. It was my fault" he said as we finished packing. We stood up and I looked at him clearly. He was really built, maybe that was why his body was really hard. He was also handsome, chocolate skinned and tall.

"I'm Patrick Garba." He introduced and I immediately assumed he was the CEO.

"I'm Zara. Are you the CEO?" I asked him and he shook his head. I got weak, I really hoped he was the one to relieve me some stress at least.

There was something about the way he was looking at me that made me scared? I didn't just like it. It was unsettling.

"No i'm COO. My brother is the CEO, 15th floor. It's nice to meet you Zara..."

"Okafor" I completed and he raised his eyebrows.

"Of Kaph?" He asked and I nodded.

"I need to go get him to sign these. It's nice to meet you." I said wanting to discharge him.

"Likewise" he said looking at me like I'm some meal. I quickly stepped around him and made my way to the elevator. Although I was still feeling his gaze at my back the whole time.

I got to the 15th floor and asked someone for the place. It happened to be the door opposite the elevator.

I got in and saw the assistant in the corner of the office. It was much smaller than Louis' but still as beautiful.

"Good afternoon. I'm from Kaph Corp." I said to the guy whose name tag said Olatunde.

The guy just looked at me up and down and looked back at his computer.

"I'm here to see Mr Garba" I decided to tell him so maybe he will give me the time of day.

He didn't look at me, he just pointed to a door to the side and continued on his computer.

How rude.

I just walked to the door and knocked three times.

"Come in" a voice boomed through and I opened the door. Once I got in, I was shocked to my bones when I saw Aminu, Louis' friend sitting at the table. He was in a heated argument with a very beautiful lady.

I suddenly remembered his introduction.

'Aminu, Garba'

How hadn't I thought of it before.

This my brain shaa.

"You will regret this Aminu!" The lady yelled and took her bag, storming towards me. I quickly shifted so that she won't push me, because the kind of anger in her eyes was too scary.

When she finally left, I looked at Aminu who had his head in his hands. He hadn't noticed me yet. He looked so down trodden. I wondered what happened.

I walked to the front of his desk and cleared my throat making him look up at me. He frowned.

"Zara?" He breathed out.

"Good afternoon" I said smiling, hoping he would cheer up. I hated that he had a long face.

"Good afternoon. Please sit." He offered and I sat down.

He frowned at me again. "What are you doing here, is Louis around?" He asked, shocked that I found my way to his office, I understood his surprise.

"I started work today. Louis made me COO and handed me over to Lola for her to train me and I found myself running errands for her like some messenger." I complained and he started laughing.

"Louis touched the tail of the lion" he said while still laughing and I grimaced, giving him a confused expression.

When he finally stopped laughing, he spoke again. "Lola was supposed to be promoted to COO position, more because she's his wife to be than any other thing. I guess you already know that." I nodded.

"Well I think given the fact that you have blood ties to the family, you were the better candidate. I think Louis made a right call though, I mean, he can't just appoint her over a relationship that might or might not end." He explained.

"I know she's hurt but it isn't my fault. She's been trying to frustrate me over something I have no control over." I complained again. Aminu looked at me sympathetically.

"Anyway she asked me to give you something to sign." I said bringing out the documents.

"Isn't that a job for an-"

"Assistant I know. Same thing I said. Just sign it please let me go back to the office before Louis starts looking for me" I said and he just stared at me.

I was getting impatient.

"Well?" I said.

He just sighed "I'll sign it on one condition." He said with a dark deep voice. He leaned forward to the point where he was very close to my face, making it hard for me to breathe.

"What?" I asked, trying not to look at his eyes.

"You go out with me" he proposed and I gasped, making him smile.

"I can't do that." I said hastily. I couldn't go anywhere with him. We were barely acquainted.

Aminu shrugged leaning back into his chair and smirking. "Then I won't sign."

So Arrogant.

I fell back into the chair I was sitting on. I was literally close to having a migraine. And I remembered that Lola said he must sign it today.

"Fine!" I said throwing my hands in the air.

He grinned at this and took a pen, signing the documents and then stood up from his seat, straightening his suit out.

"Shall we?"
