The bathroom door opened and Phoenix walked out, naked except for a large fluffy cream towel looped casually around his waist. His black hair was still wet from the shower, and a few wayward locks fell carelessly on his high forehead. The dark curls in the center of his chest were also still damp, tight little swirls of glistening hair which screamed out to have a woman's fingers slide sensually through them.
Genie did her best not to stare, her heart sinking all the while. Whitney would definitely take a second glance. She was taking more than two herself.
“Was that the telephone just now?” he asked abruptly.
She swallowed and lifted her eyes back to his face, praying that nothing showed in her expression or demeanor to betray her X-rated thoughts.
“No,” she lied fairly smoothly.
Ann and Henry were looking incredibly well together. Both of them dressed in the latest fashion, they were absolutely breathtaking. Genie was trying not to stare at them, was trying not to get too jealous of their happiness that could be seen written all over their faces with the naked eye. The two couples were moving along the covered walkway which led from the lobby to the main room all prepared to greet all the guests participating in the medical conference. The hotel was huge, so they all were following Henry which had a map in his hand and was doing his best not to get lost. She was looking around when Phoenix slid an arm around her waist. She got startled and looked at him a little bemused. “For appearances’ sake,” he whispered wryly into her ear as he pulled her close.
She stared up at him, troubled by the emotion racing through her, hating the time Phoenix was taking in surveying his old flame. While his face remained fairly impassive, Genie thought she glimpsed a contraction around his mouth and a darkening in his eyes as he watched the woman. By the time he turned back to face them, Genie found that she was holding her breath and her heart was in flames.“You're right, Ann,” he drawled, in a bored tone. “She looks better, but I doubt she's changed in other ways. Let's go and get ourselves a drink. My throat's as dry as the Sahara Desert.” Taking Genie's arm, he urged her forward, forcing his friends to move on. Genie gave him a quick look, but there was nothing for her to see now. Clearly, Phoenix was a master at hiding his feelings once he put his mind to it. ‘Did he still want Whitney Webster? Had he taken one loo
What? What the hell was he saying? Genie suspected that her eyes must have shown her complete shock, but she doubted anyone saw it. Phoenix immediately obliterated her face from view as his mouth met hers once again that day. Shock quickly changed to resentment as he forced his will upon her lips, but resentment proved a poor weapon against the mad desire which was lurking deep within her treacherous body. How could she possibly push him away when Phoenix's tongue was demanding her to surrender completely? It was what she'd dreamt about, what she'd fantasized over. So, she opened her mouth and let him kiss her… really kiss her this time. It was once again only a brief kiss. Even so, for those few savage seconds, everything else ceased to exist. Where they were. Henry and Ann. Even Whitney, the vamp.
As it turned out, Henry did ask her to join them for dinner, but, luckily for everybody, Whitney had to decline. Apparently, her hubby was joining her for dinner, and they were expected to sit with the other lecturers. Genie almost felt disappointed that she wouldn't have the opportunity to sharpen her claws on the woman. Ann, however, didn’t feel the same.'Don't you ever, ever ask that bitch to join us anywhere, Henry Mackie! Ever again!” she hissed as soon as Whitney was away from them. Henry chuckled, then leaned over to give his wife a kiss on the lips.“I simply adore you when you're jealous.”“You have such a sharp mind, sweetie! How you can be fooled by that maneater is beyond me!”“Babe, I thought she was very charming,” Henry huffed.“Yeah, like a cobra ready to attack!&
Even if Genie had been awake for more than 3 hours, they still were late for breakfast. But it wasn’t her fault. Ann and Henry were just leaving the dining room as they were entering.“You look like you didn't get much sleep last night, my friend,” Henry teased Phoenix. “I could use those bags you're sporting under your eyes like as floatation devices.” Genie wouldn't have been quite so blunt, but Henry was right. Phoenix looked as if he'd been out on a marathon the entire night. She had no idea what time he'd eventually turned in, but he'd still been having a drink at midnight, sitting silently in an armchair in the dark. When Genie had woken this morning, after a rather restless sleep herself, he'd been sprawled on the sofa asleep, still in his clothes from the night b
She wanted to scream at him not to be so stupid or so blind. There were so many women in this world worth loving, but Whitney Webster wasn’t one of them. But Genie could see that Phoenix's mind and heart were closed to love. He was an embittered man who had come here seeking some kind of vengeance for Whitney's betrayal of his love. It worried Genie that Phoenix might still get lost in that love again, that this clever, wicked woman might somehow crash his heart as she already did in the past. Her beauty and her womanly wiles were incredible, everyone could see that. Not many men would stand a chance against her, once she set her sights on them. Breakfast ended in a tense silence, Genie got up from the table, glad to leave Phoenix and be alone for a while in her room. She sat down on the side of the b
Fifteen minutes after the first round with lady Vamp, Genie was standing in the bathroom, biting her bottom lip as she grimaced at her reflection in the mirror. She had been staring at herself in horror for some time. The black bikini was more outrageous than ever. She seemed to be spilling out everywhere. Everything was so out of place! Sighing, Genie opened the bathroom door and backed up a bit, standing on tiptoe to get a longer view of her hips and legs in the mirror. Gritting her teeth, she half turned and glanced over her shoulders at her behind. It was appalling.“I could never wear this in public,” she muttered dispiritedly. For a second, she thought she could beat Whitney by prancing around the pool in front of Phoenix in this.“I agree.”
Genie poured herself another glass of wine, took a sip, then turned to walk over and peek through the drawn curtains at the setting sun.“Pull the curtain back, please. I want to see you better and that light doesn’t do you justice.” She did as Phoenix asked before glancing over her shoulder at him. He was lying on the rumpled bed, a sheet dragged across his lower half, his head and shoulders propped up against a mountain of pillows. He was sipping scotch on the rocks and was also staring at her, his intense green eyes glittering with a decidedly primitive desire. Everything was so… wonderfully surprising. Genie couldn’t believe how quickly Phoenix had stripped her of all inhibition. She'd never been this comfortable before, walking around naked. Now she not only did so without shyness, but she a
