MAYA

"I heard a noise," Edward murmured, his voice laced with concern as he pulled his hands away from my face and looked toward the doorway. "Was that coming from Maria's side?"

"It was the picture frame on the wall," I replied softly, rubbing my thumb against his cheek to keep his attention on me. "It fell and shattered into pieces."

The moment those words left my mouth, Edward’s eyes snapped wide open. He didn't wait another second. He pulled away and practically ran out of the bedroom, his heavy boots thundering down the corridor toward the parlor and Maria's suite. I hurried right behind him, my heart pounding in my chest.

When we reached the room, the floor was covered in sharp bronze shards and shattered glass, reflecting the faint candlelight from the walls. Instead of calling for the housemaids, Edward dropped to his knees right there on the hard marble floor. He began picking up the broken pieces with his bare hands, carefully gathering every single fragment of the frame as if it held the weight of his entire life.

"Edward, stop!" I gasped, kneeling beside him as I saw a sharp edge slice near his palm. "Let the servants clean it up! You'll cut yourself!"

"No," Edward grunted, his jaw set tight, his eyes fixed on the ruined frame. "I will do it myself."

Maria stepped out of her doorway, her silk robe wrapped tightly around her chest, her face still pale from our earlier confrontation. She looked at Edward kneeling on the floor and scoffed, trying to regain her usual arrogant posture.

"This frame is ancient and completely ruined, Edward," Maria sneered, folding her arms. "Look at the mess. I will have the guards throw it out and order all these old pictures to be removed from the walls. They are becoming a hazard in my side."

Edward froze.

Slowly, he stood up from the cold floor, holding the shattered bronze pieces in his large hands. He turned his body toward Maria, his broad shoulders rising, his amber eyes suddenly blazing with an ancient, terrifying fury that I hadn't seen in months.

"Do not dare touch anything in this house, Maria!" Edward roared, his voice booming like thunder through the stone corridors, vibrating the very floorboards beneath our feet.

The sheer power of his Alpha voice struck the hall like a physical wave. Maria flinched violently, taking two hasty steps backward into her doorway, her breath catching in her throat. The color completely drained from her face, her arrogant mask shattering into dust as her hands began to tremble. I could see the pure, unadulterated fear in her eyes.

My Edward was back.

The strong, fearless Alpha who commanded the respect of the entire pack—not the broken man cowering under Maria's dark threats. Seeing him stand tall, claiming his authority and protecting the sacred history of our home, made my soul swell with overwhelming pride and love.

Maria stood glued to the doorframe, now shivering as her eyes darted back and forth between me and Edward. For the first time since my return, she realized that her grip on my husband had loosened, and that the two of us were standing together as an unbroken wall. She knew her blackmail was no longer enough to keep us apart or make us bow to her will.

Just then, soft footsteps echoed down the staircase leading from the guest rooms.

Clara stepped into the hallway, carrying her small leather travel bag. Behind her stood Grandmother, her heavy woven shawl wrapped tight around her stooped shoulders. Clara looked pale, but her expression was settled, free of the panic that had haunted her for days.

"Alpha Edward... Luna Maria," Clara announced, her voice quiet but firm in the silent corridor. "I am leaving with my grandmother."

Edward turned his head, his gaze softening slightly as he looked at the young girl. "Clara?"

"My grandmother has instructed that we return to our village," Clara said, keeping her eyes lowered politely. "My place is not here, and I no longer wish to be part of the arrangements in this palace. We are leaving this morning."

Maria opened her mouth to object, but a sharp, warning glare from Grandmother silenced her before a single word could escape her lips. The old woman gave Edward a slow, respectful nod, her ancient eyes briefly meeting mine with a quiet understanding, before she turned and guided her granddaughter down the grand stairs toward the heavy front doors.

I let out a long, quiet breath, watching their shadows fade into the morning light.

This was a good move. Clara was finally free from Maria's corrupt games, and Grandmother was taking her far away from the dark magic infesting this palace.

I leaned gently against Edward's arm, feeling the solid, steady warmth of his muscle as he held the broken pieces of the portrait close to his chest. I knew in my heart that this wasn't the end. Maria was a wounded snake, and a wounded snake would always strike again when backed into a corner. She would try to use the video, she would try to bring new lies to the council, and she would scheme until her last breath.

But for now, looking at my husband standing tall and fearless by my side, I felt a deep sense of calm wash over me. Let her try. We had peace and control in this house once more, and together, we were ready for whatever battle lay ahead.

  • GHOST REVENGE   ON AND ON

MAYAThe silence in the sitting room stretched tight, pulled so thin it felt as if a single breath would snap it. Maria stared at me across the mahogany tea table, her dark eyes wide and fixed, her chest heaving beneath her velvet gown. The question I had thrown at her—Was that why you killed her?—hung in the air like a heavy cloud of smoke. Then, the dam broke.Maria went on and on explaining that she did not kill Philomena."I didn't kill her!" she burst out, her voice rising into a sharp, erratic screech that echoed off the high stone walls. She threw her hands in the air, pacing frantically back and forth across the rug, her silk skirt rustling loudly. "You don't know anything, Maya! You weren't here! You listen to rumors and old maid gossip and think you understand the history of this palace! She fell and hit her head and died! It was an accident! A tragic, foolish accident!"I didn't move an inch. I kept my palms flat on the dark wood of the table, my body completely still, watc

  • GHOST REVENGE   TIME

MAYA"Are you looking for a child for the Alpha, or are you looking for a vagina to service?"I dropped the question into the quiet night air like a heavy iron weight. She was almost out of sight, her dark silk dress vanishing around the corner of the corridor, but I was loud enough and she heard. The sound of her retreating footsteps instantly stopped. The grandfather clock in the corner ticked loudly in the suffocating stillness—tick, tick, tick. I stood beside the small tea table, my knuckles white as I gripped the edge of the dark mahogany, my chest heaving up and down in shallow, controlled breaths. The Sacred Book of Pack Laws lay wide open on page ten in front of me, but I didn't need to look at the yellowed parchment anymore. The sick, twisted loophole was burned into my mind. For a long, agonizing moment, Maria didn't move. She stood frozen in the dim torchlight near the stone archway, her back turned to me, her shoulders stiff as a board under her heavy velvet cloak.Slowly,

MAYAI woke up from the bad dream, my heart hammering against my ribs, drenched in cold sweat. I sat up in the dark, breathing heavily, clutching the bedsheets tightly in my hands.I refused to accept it.I shook my head violently in the quiet room. How could my own past self tell me I was never meant to hold a child? How could she tell me that bringing Edward’s baby into this world would end my life? No. I had fought through death, survived the cold earth of the tomb, and reclaimed my rightful place beside the man I loved. I was not going to let a vision or a ghost rob me of the ultimate joy of motherhood. I must have a baby, and not even the Moon Goddess can stop that. The next morning, Edward returned from his trip to the northern territory. He looked tired, his broad shoulders heavy with the weight of pack duties, but the moment he saw me, his amber eyes softened with that deep, familiar warmth. I didn't waste any time. After we embraced, I sat him down on the edge of our bed and

  • GHOST REVENGE   NO BABY FOR YOU

MAYAThe palace had finally fallen into a quiet rhythm, but the calm was nothing more than the silence before a storm.I sat near the tall stained-glass window in the drawing room, sipping warm chamomile tea, watching the afternoon sun cast long shadows across the courtyard. Edward was always away handling pack business, and for a few days, I thought I could breathe. Then Maria walked into the room. She looked battered, her palms still calloused from sweeping the stone streets, but her face held that same insufferable, arrogant sneer. She held a thick leather binder under her arm and threw it onto the table in front of me with a heavy thud."What is this?" I asked, setting my cup down with a cold stare."Options," Maria said, crossing her arms over her chest. "The Alpha is not getting any younger. A pack cannot survive without a strong, blood-line heir, and since you seem to spend your nights casting dark spells instead of producing a child, I have taken matters into my own hands. I h

  • GHOST REVENGE   I REALLY DO NOT CARE

MAYAMy heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird, but I kept my posture straight and my eyes fixed on the silver goblet in front of me.I said nothing, trying to ignore the question. I picked up my napkin and wiped the corner of my mouth as if I hadn't just spoken the name of a dead princess into the quiet dining hall.Edward didn't break his gaze. His amber eyes were blazing, his chest heaving under his dark tunic. "Maya, answer me! Who were you thanking?"Before I could invent a smooth lie, a sharp, ragged voice burst from the doorway."I told you! I told you she is possessed with evil and the spirit of the dead!" Maria screamed, staggering back into the grand hall, clutching her dirty sweeping cloak around her bruised shoulders. She looked unhinged, her hair wild and her eyes bloodshot as she pointed a trembling, dirt-stained finger straight at me. "You heard her, Edward! You heard her with your own ears! She just thanked the ghost of Philomena! She is using black magic t

  • GHOST REVENGE   REVENGE IS THE MISSION

MAYADiscovering that Orlando was my dad made me happy and at the same time angry.I stood in the middle of the quiet cemetery, staring at his mossy headstone with a storm of emotions raging in my chest. I was angry because he should have told me the truth during those thirty-six days of my restoration. He had sat across from me, handed me the book and watched me cry, yet he kept his identity a secret. But at the same time, I was happy—deeply, overwhelmingly happy—that he loved me enough to cross the boundary between life and death just to save my soul and give me a second chance.I turned my head toward the woman standing beside me, my voice barely a whisper against the cool morning wind. "Does it mean the dead can see us?" I asked the woman at the grave. She looked at me with gentle, wise eyes, her woolen shawl wrapped tightly around her shoulders. "The dead do not just see us, my child," she replied softly. "Those who loved us in life remain as shadows and whispers around our steps
