Chapter 2

Penulis: Anonymous
I was curious as to what these people would do to me. Lounging back, I took in the looks on their faces.

Believing they had reached their happy ending, these people felt entitled to put me on trial.

However, I had steered them to this very conclusion.

“Sure, I agree with you.”

My composed response didn’t give away any aggression or trace of emotion.

Confused at first, Silvia quickly turned furious.

“Are you actually accepting our terms?”

“Yes.”

I flashed my pearly white, my expression devoid of any heartbreak.

Simon pulled Silvia into his embrace and calmed her down with assurances.

“Calvin has no reason to be upset since he’s getting a chunk of your fortune from the divorce, Silvia. All he lost was a few years. You were the one carrying the child to full term. Why would he care? He can just walk away with a massive payout. For all we know, he could’ve pretended to be a loving family man.”

Silvia’s dull eyes lit up.

Kaden broke free from Simon’s hold and kicked me in the knee.

“You have no right to Mom’s money. I know you. You’re putting on an act to get Mom’s attention. Of course, you love me. You can’t keep away from us, you filth. You must be wishing that Simon would drop dead right away. Too bad. Mom doesn’t love you at all, and neither do I.”

With Kaden’s reasoning stroking Silvia’s ego, the mother and son heaved relief and stared me down.

“You can have the money, Calvin, but nothing else. Quit the acting. Nothing you say or do can change the fact that the marriage is over.”

“You are welcome to attend my wedding to Silvia.”

The trio was on the same page, not giving me a chance to get a word in.

While speechless, I could understand where they were coming from.

I had been at the family’s beck and call, catering to their every whim.

There was no way they would entertain the idea that I felt nothing for them.

It was pointless to state facts when they had already made up their minds.

A top female CEO in a story could never understand what it was like to be a regular working man like me.

I would not mix my job with romance. However, for the characters, it was their real-life experience.

Shaking my head, I stopped paying them any attention.

Occupied with having her happily-ever-after with Simon, Silvia didn’t go after me. The last thing on her mind was me anyway.

Come to think of it, our encounter was quite absurd.

Back then, Simon’s family sent him abroad for his studies. It was bad enough that Silvia lost the love of his life, but her family business was on the verge of bankruptcy too.

Hitting rock bottom, Silvia lost significant weight and nearly ended herself.

That was when I came in. The System put me in that time and place to pull her through her darkest days.

I poured a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into caring for her. In the end, I successfully led her down the aisle.

Of course, my heart was never in it. Even during our most intimate moments, I went on autopilot mode with the System’s help.

I drew a strict line between work and reality. This world was just a brief stopover for me.

Once I was to leave, everything here would return to dust.

Kaden was a byproduct of the storyline’s progression. It was in my plans to provide him with a decent upbringing.

However, love was never part of the deal. I would never make the mistake of staying in the world for a child.

“You worthless, opportunistic, disgusting players! What gives you the right to look down on others? I’ll bring you down someday.” He must be repeating what the rebels had taught him. However, none of the rogue players could survive against the Core System. Stripped of her power, Silvia aged visibly. She swiftly withered, her hair graying. I drew closer and savored her disbelief and anger. She asked the Core System, “You created me and scripted my entire life. What gives you the right? I’m not just data. I’m a living, breathing person. Why did you plan out my life?” Silvia fancied herself to be the voice of characters across sub-worlds and realities. Nevertheless, the Core System could care less. “Look at your wounds. What’s bleeding out of you?” Blue light spilled out of her. Silvia wasn’t even a physical matter in the real world. She wouldn’t bleed a single drop of blood. It took a while before Silvia broke out of her trance and into tears. “No! I’m a person! I’m a h

The other players valued their lives more than I expected. Detecting danger, they scrambled away and observed from afar. Knowing better than to make sudden movements, I squeezed a smile. “Stop this, Silvia. If you stand down now, I can talk the Core System out of erasing you. Things will end badly for you if this goes on.” Despite the confidence in my voice, my legs underneath my pants shook like a leaf. Silvia burst into laughter and took strides toward me. “Oh, save me the act. You can’t summon the System. Come with me, Calvin, or the people around you will die. Let’s see if you can stay indifferent to that.” I could let the situation fall into that. NPCs were just code while the players were living beings—my peers. I couldn’t just stand by and watch them get murdered. After a brief hesitation, I dropped my hands, surrendering to her will. Overjoyed to tears, Silvia eagerly grabbed my arm and pulled me along while holding Kaden. “Now, Player.” In the nick of time,

With the knife slipping out of Silvia’s grip, the System jumped in to rescue the male lead with its powers. The world was beyond saving. Even if Silvia spared the male lead’s life, there was no way to revive their love story when the plot had deviated from the script. The Core System emerged. By triggering an Armageddon, everyone in the world would be wiped out.“Do you feel any regret, Player?” I shook my head at the System’s irrelevant question. “Am I getting a bonus?” I cared far more about my rewards than these characters’ lives. Such was human nature. Once I made up my mind that the characters were all data, my empathy didn’t apply to them. Since I stayed neutral, the Core System teleported me back to the real world and gave me a promotion. Talk about a blessing in disguise. No more world-hopping for me. All I had to do now was work behind the scenes and troubleshoot for other players, providing them with walkthroughs. Life was bliss when I didn’t have to deal w

Without my care, Kaden looked utterly miserable, his face covered in tears and snot. Disgusted, I took a step back. “You’re not my child, Kaden. You are just a product of a storyline. There are many versions of you spread across thousands of worlds. If every one of you were my child, I’d be buried in them. “This behavior is beneath you, Silvia. Stop obsessing and let him go. Like you, he’s a native of this world. You guys are meant to be.” To be honest, the mother and son made me sick. I didn’t see the point of being nice. The System shrieked in my mind, telling me to take the tone down a notch. “Silvia and Kaden have gotten a mind of their own, Player. If you can’t calm them down before reality collapses, they’ll go rogue, and you will be in danger.” I scoffed. The way I saw it, they were nothing more than code. Intelligence didn’t make them human. Burdened by their defects and naivety, they posed no real threat. Kaden struggled to wrap his head around my words. Tears

However, Silvia was at her wits’ end. With Kaden constantly crying for me, she could barely stay focused at work, often spacing out during meetings. Plus, she stank. Unable to stop my body from decaying, Silvia had to watch the rot take me while being caught in a cycle of self-destruction. Simon pleaded with Silvia. Stripped of everything, Simon had to grovel at her feet. “You promised me, Silvia. You can’t just dump me. You told me that we’d get married and be together forever. Calvin is gone. He doesn’t love you. He didn’t belong in this world anyway. We are the perfect match. I’ll care for you and Kaden. Just stop this.” Simon, his eyes welling up with tears, looked fragile and broken. Without looking up, Silvia simply gazed off into the sky. “No, he won’t abandon me. He’s just upset. That’s all.” Silvia sent Simon abroad, never allowing him to set foot back into her life. I stopped the System right there. Through my experience in quests, I knew that it was the male

“Aaaaah! He’s dead!” “What the hell? He was killed because of what the kid said?” The crowd scattered in a panic. Silvia looked at her arms in disbelief before backing away, her hand over her mouth. “Dad? What happened, Dad? Don’t scare me. Get up!” Being closest to me, Kaden was the first to pick up that something was off. I actually felt bad about dying during a joyous occasion, but the quest took precedence. So much for the wedding. Barely gripping her phone, Silvia dialed the emergency line with trembling hands. “My husband’s dead… He… Come quickly…” She was so hysterical that the dispatcher struggled to get information. In the end, Simon grabbed the phone from her and gave the address. The paramedics arrived at the scene. After a quick check of my vitals, they shook their heads. “He’s gone. There’s nothing we can do. I’m sorry for your loss.” Crashes rang out. Silvia hit the table and staggered toward my body.“You’re not fooling me, Calvin. You must have
