LOGINBalqis’s POV One month has passed since that terrible night at Adonai’s place. I’d thrown myself into work at the club, dancing until my body gave out, trying to forget Julius, and trying to forget the touch of Adonai’s hand against my skin. But my body had another plans. “Bally, are you vomiting again?” Nirvana asked from the living room. I flushed the stench and came out of the bathroom exhaustedly. “I really don’t know what I ate. Perhaps I danced too much last night. Can I borrow a few cents to get some drugs?” “Go check my purse, you’ll see some change in there.” “You’re not getting any drugs!” Mrs Kathy, my stepmom, interrupted, coming into the living room. We both looked back. “Why did you say that mum? She’s been vomiting for the past two days now.” Nirvana said, frowning in confusion. “Are you both idiots?” Mrs Kathy fired angrily, and both Nirvana and I frowned in confusion. “Balqis is pregnant!!” Mrs Kathy announced before grabbing the remote control. Of course. She’d notice. She’d been watching me like a hawk ever since Julius and I broke up, probably hoping I’d do something to embarrass the family before Nirvana's wedding. My heart slammed immediately, currents of shock ran through my veins, “What did you say mum?” “When did you last seen your period?” She asked, casting me a mocking glance. “But I...” I stopped immediately. I remembered that I hadn’t seen my period this month. But how did I… The realization hit me like ice water.
Nirvana’s eyes met mine, and I saw understanding dawn on her face because she was there too. “Adonai” I whispered, my voice shaking.
“You actually… with him?” Nirvana’s eyes widened. I...I’m pregnant with Gamma Adonai’s child? No. It can’t be. “See Mum, we can’t just jump to conclusions like that. You know...” “Don’t give me that crap, I’ve been through this before” she yelled, finally setting my heart in flames. I looked at Nirvana, who shook her head desperately, telling me not to involve her no matter what. Nirvana was betrothed to the Alpha’s son, and their marriage was set for next month. As expected of a bride-to-be, she should be on her best behavior, as any slight mistake could send her and her family’s head rolling on the floor. When had I last seen Gamma Adonai? I’d made sure to avoid him completely since that night. When he came to our house with the Alpha’s son entourage to visit Nirvana, I’d hidden like a coward. When I spotted his car near the club, I’d take a different route home. I couldn’t face him after what we’d done. But now, I was pregnant with his child? No, it can’t be. Mrs Kathy went upstairs, and while she was gone, Nirvana rushed over to me. “Balqis, Gamma Adonai… came into you?” I pushed her back, “All this happened because of you! If you hadn’t slept with Julius, I wouldn't have been compelled to do it.” Mrs Kathy came back downstairs with a pregnancy test strip and handed it to me, “Go test yourself.”
~~~ “Mum, this is not necessary,” Nirvana pressed. “Balqis can actually take care of herself even if she’s really…” “Take care of herself by abortion?” The woman fired at her daughter again. Nirvana kept quiet, and I felt I needed this confirmation, or else I’m going to lose my mind. Mrs Kathy and Nirvana paced up and down, sighing simultaneously, while I sat on the sofa like a lost soul. I stared at the little device lying on the table, the message flashing on it haunting my brain the more I looked at it: “PREGNANT” After pacing for what seemed like ages, Nirvana stopped and stamped her feet to the floor. “Balqis, you’re aborting this pregnancy,” she concluded. I didn’t move from my spot. I just listened with several possibilities running through my mind. Can I take care of a child alone? Probably not, right? I don’t even have a stable job, just bouncing from one part-time gig to another while Mrs Kathy pays me just a dime to take care of my personal necessities. But… I’m now pregnant?
Julius would definitely mock me if he found out. The pack would call me a whore who got kicked out by her ex-mate’s best friend and Mrs Kathy would never forgive me for ruining her reputation. “Stop talking about abortion as if it’s nothing!” Mrs Kathy fired back at her daughter. “She was impregnated by Gamma Adonai, right? Then let’s go and tell him” “Mum!” Nirvana warned. “How sure are you that he would want a child?” Mrs Kathy stopped in her tracks, and her piercing, wicked eyes locked into mine. “Then she shouldn’t have opened her legs for him!”
I could see the wheels turning on her head. A baby woth Gamma Adonai meant money, connections to power. Of course she’d want me to keep it for her own sake. Cold shivers ran down my spine as she said this. Only if I hadn’t gone to his house that day to find Julius, then I wouldn’t be facing this now. But now, I have two options laid before me. Either get an abortion or inform him about it. “No!” I interrupted the mother and daughter’s arguments, making them look at me in confusion. I stood up, each word I was about to say choking my throat like tiny little needles. “I will go and tell Gamma Adonai about this myself.” I turned to the stairs. “Mum is right. I laid my pussy for him, and he should take responsibility for this.” “Balqis,” Nirvana called, and I turned. For the first time, I caught a concerned gaze on her face, though I couldn’t tell if it was concern for me or fear of scandal. I couldn’t tell. “Can you handle it alone? Should I come with you?” I forced a smile, “You don’t have to.” She’s the reason I’m in this mess anyway. No amount of her niceness would make me ever forgive her. I departed upstairs with tears running down my face. Why did this have to happen on my first time sleeping with another man? How could I not even know when he was emptying his scrotum into my womb? I changed my dress with tears and trembling hands, tears streaming down my face. What would I even say to him? Would he want this baby, or reject me like Julius had?
I came down the stairs, my heart still hammering with anxiety over Adonai’s possible reactions, but Nirvana stopped me halfway through. “Go back upstairs, Balqis.” I tried pushing my way through her, “Nirv, let me go.” She held me back, her voice breaking as she spoke. “For your own sake, go back upstairs.” Her mum was standing before the TV, frozen, and this hinted to me that something was happening. “No, Nirv,” I argued and forced my way out of her grip and rushed to the TV, only to see the most gruesome news flashing. “No,” I shook my head, withdrawing. “This can’t be true” Nirvana rushed to me and held me. “Take heart, Balqis. The goddess knows the best.” “No!!!” I cried painfully, wishing the news was false. “Nothing must happen to Adonai at this time.” I yelled at the top of my voice. My chest ached from crying too much, my heart bleeding with anguish.
Not now. Not when I’m carrying his child. Not when I never got to tell him .
My hands moved instinctively to my still flat stomach. “I’m sorry” I whispered to the tiny life inside me. “I’m sorry your father will never know you existed” Showing on the TV were photos taken from an accident scene, and not an ordinary accident scene, but a plane crash. Involving none other than Gamma Adonai — the father of the baby I was carrying!
“…..unfortunately, no survivors were found at the crash site...”
BALQIS'S POVI don't know how Sheila did it or what she has done, but before 12 PM, when the founding ceremony at Bermuda Mansion was to start, I was out of the cell.She had sneaked me into the mansion like a maid, and there, Isis was waiting with tears in her eyes. I didn't say anything, but her actions said it all that Sheila had probably told her I was her real mother. "So we have to get away from here really quickly." Sheila interrupted our mother-daughter reunion. "Because of what happened, the ceremony would be very fast."I nodded quickly as I figured out her plan effortlessly. "So we have to get everything ready. within 20-30 minutes." The thought that I planned this with Adonai but couldn't be with him until the end of it pushed me to go harder.I know he wasn't dead. He wouldn't leave me alone so cruelly while he died foolishly like before.Swiftly, I dressed perfectly like a maid and followed Isis's guide towards the CCTV room. I pretended like I was cleaning floors a
BALQIS'S POV As if I knew something was wrong the moment Julius arrived at the police station with his fake teary face.Frankie and Ariana were with him, a nanny holding their hands as Kieran broke down before the police inspector."I heard she had an accomplice." he sobbed. "He was supposed to be a dead man, but Adonai assisted her in stealing my wife's body!""We understand you, Alpha. We've been trying our best to make her talk but it was all in vain."Kieran's eyes flickered towards me, that same mocking glint stretched but he shrugged and got up. "I understand I can't teach you your jobs. But wherever Adonai is, I hope he rots in hell." "Alpha...""Please help me ask her where Edward Blueseal, our investor is. Maybe she'd killed him?" he looked at me again. "She had first approached me under the pretence of being Edward's secretary. even though we've been trying to find that man since forever." The police pushed me slightly. "Is it true that you impersonated someone's secretar
ADONAI'S POVMy heart was heavy, just by seeing her enter the police station, roughhandled by the men."Where is the corpse!" they yelled at her. "Did you hide it so that you can hide your crimes?" She looked back at me, but I couldn't do anything. I pushed him to the police's turf anyway. I shook my head and turned back. Through the helmet. I connected with my men who work for Kieran. I wanted to surprise Balqis with their existence on the day we finally bring Kieran down but I guessed I failed. "Why did you take her back to the police station, Gamma? They would torture her almost to death!" My cheek tightened. "This was for the best. It's a game over if Kieran finds out I was Edward Blueseal. He will want to find out who Edward is now that Bally is imprisoned." The men were silent. I crossed the last bridge leading to the 7-star hotel where I was lodging, and several cars were outside. The security guards at the entrance, who had always welcomed us, were different now. I laug
BALQIS'S POVJulius got me again.Police flooded the penthouse, and I was in handcuffs before I could even blink. Onika was dead on the floor, and everything carried my fingerprints. Nirvana, Sheila, Alpha Elon, and the children were all stunned when we got downstairs. Riot insisted. "My mommy didn't kill her." I wished I wouldn't cry — show Kieran that I would bounce back, but my son was called the murderer's son again.Isis ran to me before we could leave the mansion. "Miss Balqis?" This was the first time she would see me after I came back.I looked away. How could I face my daughter after three months of my supposed death and that too in handcuffs?We were at the fountain while residents cursed me. The police were packing Onika's body. "How could she be so mean?""Luna Onika hosted a funeral for her, how did she kill him so wickedly?" I hung my head low in tears, the whole world crushing down on me at once. Kieran put a hand on the wheelers bringing Onika out of the elevator
THIRD PERSON POV -A DAY BEFORE THE FOUNDING CEREMONY-Kieran ran his hand through his hair angrily and confusedly."Something is definitely wrong!" He banged his hand on the table for the umpteenth time. He'd been conversing with Rhoda on the phone about everything needed and how the founding day would go with Edward's presence.But something still felt terribly wrong and he couldn't decode what it was or where it had gone wrong.He paced up and down the study again, thinking about everything since the day Balqis died. "Even if she came back alive, how could she be working for Edward?" hr stopped, looked at himself in the mirror reflection. "Where could Adonai be hiding if Balqis is out here?" He frowned again, looking at himself. This wasn't his real face or his real body, yet he was still Julius and his memory and blood are the same."Could it be that..." he paused, wondering how something was possible.Why was Nirvana genuinely concerned about who Rhoda was and was always refe
THIRD-PERSON POV THAT SAME DAY—12 AM AT MOSES'S MANOR Kieran slammed his palm to the table angrily and fiercely, making Nirvana and Moses stagger. "You pathetic sinners!" Nirvana swallowed. "I'm sure it's Balqis! She must have come back to take revenge on every one of us." "Revenge?" Kieran scoffed wildly. "Do you know what you're saying right now? Are you drunk?" Nirvana and Moseas already knew he would crash out like this on them since they left the hotel and he insisted on going to Mose's Manor instead of the mansion. His hand was shaking in fear as if he were really scared or wondering, what if Balqis were really alive? Would he be able to survive it? The woman he saw really looked so much like the Baliqs he always knew since she was 18. The only difference was that this one looked fierce, a woman that has nothing to lose, rather than the Balqis that would hesitate before doing anything in the part, fearing anything would happen to her son. "What are the possibilities tha
BALQIS'S POV Sheila and Keiran jerked up, “N…Nirvana?” “Keiran you dog! So you could cheat on me?” This word almost made me laugh. Sheila was flustered; perhaps this was her first time. Keiran approached Nirvana to calm her, but she refused it. “I trusted you! You….” “You're not my wife, Nirva
ADONAI'S POVI was tired of trying to make Sheila understand my point.I guess she'd taken this marriage seriously and believed that even after conquering Julius, both of us would remain a couple. She pulled her bag out of the bedroom door furiously. “You used me, now that your lover is back you'r
BALQIS'S POV If humiliation had a face, then it would be the kind of disgrace I encountered today. I still don't know who released me from prison, and sent me that message but I was sure that Luna onika definitely has a hand in it. I was about entering my small car when she stopped behind me. “
ADONAI'S POVSheila pulled me to a corner as soon as Balqis left my side to look for her kid. “What the fuck are you doing?” “What are talking about?” She beat her chest as a matter of factly. “How does it feel to humiliate your wife in front of everyone?” Her assumptions aren't clear to me yet.
