Chapter 10

After a lengthy debate, Jackie and Jodi had decided to go to Lester's office. Under lawyer-client privilege, they told Lester everything they had learned.

“I’ve been a lawyer for over forty years and I . . . damn I don’t know what to say. You think you know people,” he choked out.

“We need the DA on our side. If we can get him to agree to let all of us operate without harassment, we’ll be home free,” Jodi said.

“Sometimes it’s best to deal with the devil you know,” Lester said.

“What do you mean?” Jackie asked.

“Let’s say you girls can get rid of Marty once and for all. Who is going to take his place? It could be someone that has no tolerance for borderline prostitution, drug dealing, and running moonshine.”

“He’s right,” Jackie said.

“Hell, we know a couple of the guys at the station. At one time, they were cool dudes,” Jodi stated. “There has to be one person at the station that can take
