It had been four days since Goldman had returned to Arizona, and he was a wreck. He had gone to Pattyโ€™s house as soon as he got back into town. Her car hadnโ€™t been home. Goldman had gone back that evening, and her car was still gone.

Monday and Tuesday, Goldman had gone to her house, again. Patty was home, but she wouldnโ€™t come to the door. He had pleaded for her to let him in. She wouldnโ€™t. Patty wouldnโ€™t even give him a verbal response. The only response Goldman had gotten was Rufus barking when he had rung the doorbell and yelled at the door.

This morning he had gone to her house - again. The same process was repeated. The only one that wanted anything to do with him was Rufus โ€“ barking his head off that a visitor was at the door. Goldman had done one thing differently. He had yelled at the door that he wasnโ€™t going anywhere until she let him in. He had hung out in Pattyโ€™s yard for an hour and a half. Goldman would have stayed all day if thatโ€™s what it took. But, Williamson had cal

Williamson had left Goldmanโ€™s to go back to the station. Dalton had waited for Goldman to freshen up, change clothes, and grab a gift he had for Patty.Once Goldman was ready, he and Dalton went to the station. Dalton wore a short sleeve black shirt with a collar; it had Triton Bail Bonds inscribed in gold on the pocket. Dalton also sported black jeans and black boots. Goldman had changed into a pair of dark blue Leviโ€™s and a black long sleeved button down shirt. They looked like enforcers ready to take care of business like they used to in the old days when they had been deputies together.โ€œNow, remember,โ€ Dalton said quietly as they approached the front door. โ€œLet me handle this. Youโ€™re too emotional right now.โ€Goldman reluctantly nodded. The sun was setting. They walked into the station.Williamson was standing at the reception desk. Out of habit, Goldman looked over at the switchboard room. One of the part-time college students were on duty. Goldman fought the urge to roll his ey

Matt and Williamson were chatting at the reception desk. Williamson was reassuring Matt that Goldman was crazy about Patty and he was willing to go to the ends of the earth to make things right with her.โ€œI hope your right, Williamson,โ€ Matt said. โ€œItโ€™s more than her being an invaluable employee here. Sheโ€™s like a sister to all of us. I would miss having her around.โ€โ€œMe, too,โ€ Williamson said. โ€œAnd her cooking. I love her lasagna.โ€โ€œDonโ€™t forget her baked spaghetti,โ€ Matt said.Williamson chuckled. โ€œRemember when she made that strawberry cheesecake from scratch and she wouldnโ€™t let any of us touch it?โ€ He smiled. โ€œItโ€™s for Goldman. Itโ€™s his birthday,โ€ Williamson mocked in a high-pitched female voice.Matt laughed. โ€œOh, god, Lawrence was pissed,โ€ he said and chuckled. โ€œI canโ€™t believe I didnโ€™t pick up on how she felt about Goldman back then.โ€โ€œYou had a lot going on back then,โ€ Williamson said.โ€œTrue,โ€ Matt agreed.A college student ran up the stairs. Matt hired her as a temp to do so

Patty was in her master bedroom suite sitting at her vanity table. She had redecorated it a few years ago. She had fallen in love with some ideas she saw on the home channel.Patty wanted her bedroom to have a serine feminine atmosphere. She had splurged on a new canopy queen size bed. White sheer drapery hung from the black iron rods. They swayed outward when the air conditioning came on. Williamson and Carter had helped her paint the walls lilac. She had replaced her old rugs with a soft cream-colored wall to wall carpeting. Patty had bought a vanity table, so she didnโ€™t have to stand in the bathroom doing her hair and makeup. Contractors had replaced her old tub with an oversized tub with a waterfall faucet. She also had them replace her plexi glass shower doors with clear glass doors. After Williamson had finally chased Goldman away, Patty and Rufus had gone upstairs. She had taken a shower and washed her hair. Patty took another stab at setting her hair again. She didnโ€™t roll the

Pattyโ€™s head whipped to the side. Goldman stood in the doorway of her bedroom with his arms crossed and his eyebrow arched up. A black box dangled in his hand. He had on a black dress shirt and dark jeans. Rufus didnโ€™t bark for the hell of it. He had barked because someone else was in the house. Her mouth dropped open at the sight of Goldman in her house. โ€œHow the hell did you get in here?โ€ she yelled.Carter blew out an exasperated breath. โ€œI thought you were going to let me soften her up before you made your presence known?โ€Pattyโ€™s head snapped in Carterโ€™s direction. โ€œWhat?โ€โ€œI didnโ€™t know your softening up method was letting her strip for you,โ€ Goldman quipped.Patty whirled around to look at Goldman. She quickly adjusted the shoulder of the robe back on her shoulder. โ€œI wasnโ€™t strip - You know what? Itโ€™s none of your business what I was doing!โ€ she yelled. She turned her attention back to Carter. โ€œYou let him into my house?โ€ More of a statement than a question. โ€œHow could you do

Three months later . . .Goldman woke up with morning wood. His dick was throbbing with want for the piece of chocolate next to him. Apparently, Patty had the same idea because she slowly straddled him. She wore a black lacey negligee. She gave him a soft smile as she raised the hem of the gown.Goldman grabbed her hips as she connected them. He groaned as she boarded his thickness. He grinded his pelvis against her moistness. Patty got on the same page, meeting his rhythm. Goldman squeezed her hips as she rode him. Patty rubbed his light bronze muscled chest. He loved watching her when they made love. Thatโ€™s what it was. Love. Goldman and Patty had been dating for three months. He would do anything for her and hated it when she wasnโ€™t around. Three months of heaven, and he never wanted to wake up.Last night, he had come over to check on her because she wasnโ€™t feeling well that afternoon at work. She had said it was just an upset stomach and she was fine. Goldman had agre

Twins, Jodi and Jackie Garvey, sat in the doctorโ€™s office at the local hospital. Jodi and Jackie had the same general practitioner. Jodi had made an appointment a few days ago to get tested. She thought she was pregnant again. Her and her husband, Matt, had been trying to have a baby. Jackie had been sick for a week and a half and had finally made an appointment to get checked out. Dr. Ustonโ€™s secretary had called them to say they had their results. The twins had decided to go get their results together. Dr. Uston had been their family physician since they were teenagers. Dr. Ustonโ€™s office had white walls. Posters about birth control, the flu shot, and healthy eating were all over the walls. His desk was light brown and small. He was in the office at the hospital twice a week. He had his own practice outside of the hospital with a beautifully decorated office that was warm and inviting. His hospital office had a sterile and cold feeling to it.

It was around 10 a.m. when Jodi Garvey-Kirby burst into the sheriffโ€™s station. She was upset, pissed, and downright disappointed at the same time. The last time she got pregnant she wasnโ€™t even trying.โ€œOh, hey, Jodi,โ€ Lawrence said. โ€œGlad youโ€™re here. I was wondering if you could do me a favor.โ€ Lawrence was one of the deputies at the station. โ€œWhat is it?โ€โ€œTen minutes ago, Patty just jumped up and ran down the hall. She went into the ladiesโ€™ room. She didnโ€™t try to get anyone to cover for her or anything. She just ran down the hall like a wild woman. Luckily, one of the student employees were here. He was doing some paper work for us. Anyway, she jumped on the switchboard. Do you mind going in there and checking on Patty?โ€โ€œThere isnโ€™t another woman here. Why donโ€™t you go in?โ€ Jodi asked with a pout.โ€œI donโ€™t feel comfortable. Itโ€™s still the ladiesโ€™ room and God knows what kind of . . . woman troubles Patty is having in there,โ€ Lawrence said uncomfortably.โ€œWhereโ€™s Goldman? Hell,

Patty, Rufus, and Carter headed to Phoenix at the crack of dawn the next morning. Damn, Jodi and her suspicions. Patty hadnโ€™t thought for one moment she was pregnant until Jodi had flapped her gums. The thought had plagued her mind all day and all night. Luckily, Goldman had to go back to work to cover the graveyard shift for Williamson. Second in command, Curtis Williamson, had a younger brother in Ohio who was a cop. He had gotten shot in the line of duty around noon Arizona time. He took the bullet in the arm, but the Ohio State Police had called Williamson anyway to let him know since he was next of kin. Despite his brotherโ€™s protests that he was fine, Williamson had wanted to see for himself. The deputies had offered to cover his shifts for a few days so Williamson could go to Ohio to check on his brother.Carter pulled into the drug store parking lot. Judging from the outside, the place was huge. It was like a drug store warehouse. Patty looked it up online yesterday. It opened

After Juan had left, Cindy had asked Mindy to grab items to put on her Nicolette persona before they left for Phoenix. Cindy wouldnโ€™t tell her why. She had said they were going somewhere that she needed to see and it was a surprise. Five miles outside of Phoenix, Cindy stopped the SUV at a rest area, grabbed a bag out the back, and told Mindy she had to go to the bathroom. Fifteen minutes later, Cindy returned, but she didnโ€™t look the same. Cindy had on a pile of make-up and a red-wig, and it wasnโ€™t the red wig Mindy had given her. When Cindy got back in the car, Mindy asked what was going on and where were they going. Cindy begged her patience and assured her that everything would become clear. They were in the downtown area of Phoenix. They parked on the street. Cindy walked Mindy to a building that looked like it had glass for walls. They got on the elevator and went to the twelfth floor. There were two businesses on the floor; Grass

It was late Tuesday morning. Mindy was packing a gift basket. She was going to drop it off as she and Cindy rode out of town. Cindy wanted to go shopping in Phoenix. Of course, Mindy couldnโ€™t afford to buy anything but she didnโ€™t mind keeping Cindy company on her shopping trips. Cindy walked in. โ€œWhoa,โ€ she said as she took in the basket on the kitchen table. โ€œThatโ€™s a big thank you.โ€ โ€œWell, it is from both us. Canโ€™t have it skimpy,โ€ Mindy said. Cindy shrugged and opened the refrigerator to retrieve a can soda. There was a knock on the back door. โ€œWho in the world could that be?โ€ Mindy asked. Cindy walked to the door and opened it. The man raised his head so they could see his face from under the wide brim baseball hat. โ€œHey, girls,โ€ Juan greeted. โ€œJuan, come in,โ€ Mindy said with a smile. He darted inside and closed the door. โ€œI parked my car two blocks away and walk

By the time Matt had found out what was going on, it was over. He and Jodi were having a hot romp in the kitchen when Patty tried to call him. He had left his cell in the living room. Two ambulances, the forensics van, two cruisers, and Williamsonโ€™s truck were outside. Matt and Jodi walked into Garveyโ€™s bar. โ€œSon of a bitch,โ€ Matt sneered as he put his hands on his hips, taking it all in.Otto was taking pictures of the body on the floor. Goldman stood tall as he was taking notes while Mindy and Cindy Pandock sat at a table talking to him. Juan was sitting at the bar looking like he had never been more relieved in his life as Carter took his statement.โ€œOh my god,โ€ Jodi said with a shocked look. โ€œIโ€™m going to check on Juan.โ€โ€œAll right, just donโ€™t interfere with the questioning. Iโ€™m heading for the lobby to see what else is going on,โ€ Matt said seriously.Jodi nodded and walked away.Matt strode to the lobby doors which were propped open. Tyrone told Juan how they had tracked Chip down in Chicago. It wasnโ€™t hard. Chip had left a rowdy drunk trail so anyone who wanted to find him could. Tyrone described how they worked Chip over for thirty-six hours. After being beaten for that long anyone would tell what they knew. Chip had given Juan, Sam, and Zeke up. He had even told them where he hid his cut of the money. During the conversation, Tyrone had given the girls more change to play more tunes on the box. Just like before, Chavez had walked with them. When they returned, Ginger got back in the booth and Nicolette remained standing next to a table. She didnโ€™t look as petrified as before. Tucker James had taken a seat at the table with Juan with the gun still on him. Juan guessed he got tired of standing just as much as Nicolette got tired of sitting. It wasnโ€™t hard for Tyrone to track down Zeke either. At least Zeke didnโ€™t lose his mind with the money. He was enjoying a comf

Juan had gotten Tyrone to chat a little. He got detailed about how Sam suffered before he died to Juan, Nicolette, and Gingerโ€™s horror. Tucker even had the nerve to say that at least Sam wasnโ€™t a rat - if it was any consolation to Juan. Now, he was talking to the girls as Nod Ya Head by Will Smith played on the jukebox. Chavez was bobbing his head to the song. โ€œAre you two sisters?โ€ Tyrone asked. โ€œYou look like youโ€™re related.โ€ โ€œCousins,โ€ Nicolette choked out. โ€œAh,โ€ Tyrone said with understanding. โ€œItโ€™s shame we didnโ€™t meet under different circumstances. You two are cute. Oh, well, back to our friend Juan. So, Juan, where the hell is my twenty million dollars?โ€ Mindy and Cindyโ€™s eyes bugled. โ€œIโ€™ll tell you, but I have to know something first,โ€ Juan said. โ€œYeah, whatโ€™s that?โ€ Tucker said and put the barrel of the gun to Juanโ€™s temple. โ€œHowโ€™d you figure out it was us?โ€ Juan asked ask he foug

Tucker had Juan sit down in a chair out on the bar floor. The silence made the situation more terrifying. Tucker pointed his pistol at his chest. How the hell did they figure out it was us? โ€œLadies, do you want to listen to some music,โ€ Tyrone asked. โ€œHuh?โ€ Ginger said. โ€œMusic,โ€ Tyrone repeated. โ€œNo reason for the situation to be unpleasant for you because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. What kind of music do you girls like?โ€ Nicolette shrugged stiffly. โ€œSome country and . . . I just started to listen to some hip hop lately.โ€ โ€œOkay,โ€ Tyrone said as he nodded his approval. โ€œWhat about you, babe?โ€ he asked Ginger. โ€œSame including R&B,โ€ she answered. Tyrone dug into his pocket and pulled out some change. He took Gingerโ€™s hand and placed the change in it. โ€œPlay some hip hop. It was Sunday morning, and Juan was feeling pretty good despite what had happened last Sunday. No one in town or the surrounding areas knew about Sam being found dead at the hotel, which surprised Juan because he was sure the EMTs would have talked, but it didnโ€™t seem like they had. Juan just thanked his lucky stars.Matt and his team were still working on Samโ€™s case. Forensics believed Samโ€™s death was an accident per cloth fibers that were found on his body and the ice bucket bag. Matt tended to agree based on the staff statements and security camera footage from the lobby and exit doors down stairs. He did have Juan come in to look at some of the footage that Matt found suspicious. Juan identified the two blondes Sam had been with. They had appeared to be in a hurry and they went out the side door exit. Juan only knew their first names. Matt had put in the Arizona state police database that they were wanted for questioning, but he didnโ€™t suspect them of foul play. Samโ€™s valuables ha

Monday afternoon, Juan prepared himself for the verbal assault as he settled in the office with Jodi and Jackie. He had asked Matt not tell the twins about Sam Ellis. Matt had said that it should come from Juan since they still own a part of the business, so they had a right to know. Juan didnโ€™t want them to know because he knew they would blame him somehow. Sam was Juanโ€™s friend not some random guest off the highway. In the end, Juan had refused to call them about it and told Matt to do what he felt was right in regards to informing the twins. โ€œWhatโ€™s up?โ€ Juan asked. โ€œI think you know whatโ€™s up,โ€ Jackie said. โ€œJackie, what happened yesterday couldnโ€™t be avoided. I donโ€™t know how you think I could have prevented -โ€ Juan began. โ€œOf course, you couldnโ€™t stop it,โ€ Jackie interrupted. โ€œWe came here to see how you were and how we can help.โ€ โ€œYeah. The forensics team combed the room over while Matt and Juan waited in a room across the hall, so Matt could take Juanโ€™s official statement. Both room doors were propped open. Otto was able to just walk a few feet to give Matt immediate need to know information.Matt noted Samโ€™s license information on a pad so his license could stay in an evidence bag. Sam had one suitcase filled with clothes, normal toiletries in the bathroom, a bottle of aspirin, a hundred and fifty dollars in his wallet, a paper bag with eight thousand four and thirty dollars in it, no credit cards, a cell phone, a photo of a woman, a man, and three girls, a key chain with a car key, two regular keys, and a lock key, and a few business cards.โ€œDo you know why he had so much cash on him?โ€ Matt asked.โ€œSam still lived the life of a drifter,โ€ Juan said. โ€œPlus, he liked casinos. He stopped at a couple in Arizona before he came here. Probably had a good run.โ€ โ€œHmm,โ€ Matt mused. โ€œYeah, but to keep that much cash in your
