Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: Dragon Tooth
It was 7:00 am on the 110th cycle.

My entire body was drenched in sweat as I leaped up from bed.

Taylor's and James' smiles were like blades that had plunged themselves into my heart.

I didn't stop Marilyn this time. I even personally packed her bag for her.

"Be good in school, Mary."

"I know, Mommy."

Surprise was etched all over Gabriel's face as he looked at me. "So, you've finally come to your senses."

"I have," I said with a smile. "You mentioned that Taylor wanted to eat my tiramisu, didn't you? I made some today. You can give it to her when you see her at the office."

Gabriel was immensely pleased. He even kissed me before he left the house, saying, "My wife is the best."

My smile disappeared the moment he left.

I didn't go to work, nor did I go to the kindergarten. Instead, I went to James' house.

After going through so many cycles, I had finally identified all the people who were connected to Marilyn's death.

James lived in an old residential area. When I knocked on the door, a haggard-looking woman opened it.

It was his wife, Ava Dawson.

"Are you looking for someone?" she asked.

"I'm Mary's mother. I wanted to thank Mr. Cook for always taking care of my daughter," I explained as I handed the fruit basket that I had prepared beforehand.

Ava led me into the house.

Although it was a tiny place, it was clean and tidy. A memorial photo of James hung on the wall.

My heart plummeted into my gut.

"Mr. Cook…"

"He passed away a year ago," Ava said with bloodshot eyes. "In a car accident."

A car accident a year ago?

There was a loud buzzing sound in my head.

That was impossible! He smiled at me every morning.

"Which accident?" I asked.

"The one that caused a chain-reaction collision a year ago. He swerved to the side to avoid hitting a child, but the steering wheel jammed, and he…"

Ava couldn't bring herself to finish her sentence.

I felt as if all the blood in my veins had turned to ice.

In the memorial photo, James' expression was stern, and he had a hollow look in his eyes. He looked like a completely different person compared to the man who smiled stiffly at me every morning.

The small memorial shrine on the shelf was covered in a thick layer of dust, making it obvious that it had been a long time since someone had cleaned it.

An inexplicable fear began to spread through my body.

If James had died a year ago, who was the man who drove the bus and smiled at me every morning?

I felt as if my soul had been sucked out of my body when I stepped out of James' home. A terrifying thought formed in my mind.

I rushed over to Gabriel's company. I hadn't even stepped through the entrance when I saw him and Taylor walking out of the building together.

Taylor's arm was locked around Gabriel's as she beamed at him affectionately.

Meanwhile, Gabriel gazed at her with a tenderness that I had never seen before.

I made a beeline for them.

"Gabriel!"

Their smiles stiffened when they saw me.

Gabriel subconsciously tried to push Taylor away, only for her to tighten her hold on him.

"What are you doing here, Nat?" she asked innocently. "Gabe was just telling me that you were feeling under the weather today. I wanted to visit you after work."

Taylor referred to Gabriel as "Gabe" as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

"What's going on between the two of you?" I asked in a shaky voice.

"Don't cause a scene here, Natasha," Gabriel hissed, looking annoyed.

He tried to pull me away, but I freed myself from his hold and pointed at Taylor.

"You! You're the one who did it, aren't you? You're the one who hurt Mary!"

"What nonsense are you spouting?" Gabriel roared.

"What are you talking about, Nat? You can't frame me for something I didn't do," Taylor blubbered through her tears.

Their colleagues began to whisper among themselves.

"I'm framing you? You didn't sprain your ankle that day at the amusement park. You were lying!"

"I…"

Taylor averted her gaze.

"And Mr. Cook too! He died a year ago, so who's the man who's been driving the bus every morning?" I screamed as if I had lost my mind.

Gabriel's face twisted. "That's enough!" he shouted while grabbing my wrist. "Let's go home!"

He then hauled me into his car.

"You must be sick in the head, Natasha."

"I'm not! You're the one who's sick in the head! You and that woman!"

"Shut up!"

Gabriel slapped me hard across the face, making my ear ring.

"I'm taking you to see a doctor tomorrow," he said coldly.

I burst out laughing as I looked at him. "Sure. Let's go see a doctor. But before we do, let's drop by somewhere else. I want to go to the police station," I said, staring at him without blinking.

I turned to look at the doctor in the ambulance, who was checking on my condition."What time is it, doctor?" I asked."It's 3:05 pm.""No. I mean, what's today's date?"The doctor shot a strange look at me before answering, "It's October 26, 2046."2046?I remembered that it had been 2026 when I started the first cycle.Had two decades already passed since then? What was going on?It felt as if a dam had been broken as my past memories flooded my mind.I remembered everything at that moment.Marilyn had indeed died two decades ago. She didn't suffocate on the bus or die from a gas leak. She didn't die because she fell onto the roller coaster tracks either.Gabriel and Taylor strangled her to death in our bedroom so they could get their hands on a huge sum of insurance money. After I found out the truth, I tried to report them to the police. However, they knocked me out before I could do it and threw me off a building, making it look as though I had tried to take my own lif

The cab sped along the road.I kept my eyes trained outside the window, feeling as if I were being swallowed up by my raging anxiety.A few police cars trailed after the cab, their wailing sirens shattering the silence in the air.14 minutes.13 minutes. The seconds ticked by like a curse. Finally, the rusty, abandoned factory came into view. I threw the car door open and dashed toward the building, throwing all caution to the wind."Mary!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, my voice echoing throughout the space. The factory looked like it was completely deserted, but I began searching through the rooms anyway. Finally, in a storage room in the deepest part of the factory, I found Marilyn tied to a pole. Her mouth was taped up, and tears streamed down her little face as she struggled wildly against the ropes binding her."Mary!"I rushed over to her and tried to remove the tape from her mouth.Suddenly, a dark silhouette dashed out from behind the stack of boxes next to me

I felt as if I had been struck by lightning when I heard the police officer's words. The color drained from Gabriel's face. "W-where did you find her?" he asked, his voice trembling. The police officer ignored him and offered a tablet to me. "Here, take a look."The amusement park's surveillance footage played on the screen. It was a little blurry, but it clearly showed what had happened a few seconds before the roller coaster incident.Someone wearing a massive mouse mascot costume was holding a tiny girl's hand, leading her away from the roller coaster's entrance. The little girl was wearing a princess dress that was identical to Marilyn's.It was Marilyn! She hadn't fallen onto the roller coaster tracks! The person in the mouse mascot costume had taken her away instead!"She… she's still alive!" I exclaimed emotionally."She is," the police officer affirmed with a nod. "We looked through the rest of the footage and found out that the person in the mascot costume led her to

The murderous glint in Gabriel's eyes only lasted for a second, making me briefly wonder if my eyes were playing tricks on me.However, after experiencing 110 cycles, I had become extremely attuned to people's malice. My eyes hadn't been playing tricks on me—Gabriel wanted me dead."Ms. Wilson," the elderly policeman said, breaking the awkward silence. He handed a report to me with a strange expression, saying, "We conducted another investigation to verify your daughter's existence."I snatched the report out of his hands.Gabriel's and my marriage was clearly documented, but the section regarding our children was completely blank."That's impossible!" I exclaimed as I pointed at the empty space. "I clearly remember Mary's name being here!"Something bizarre happened when my finger touched the paper. The blank space flickered for a split second, the way old television screens did when the signal was bad. The surface of the paper began glitching, and I could vaguely make out the

Everyone's eyes were fixed on the report.Taylor's breathing sped up. Her eyes were filled with terror as she stared at the elderly police officer.Meanwhile, Gabriel swallowed nervously. The elderly police officer cleared his throat and said, "After several rounds of analysis and comparisons, the tech department concluded that…"My heart leaped into my throat when he paused for a moment."...the video hasn't been edited or modified. Everything in the video is real."A loud crash echoed in the room.Taylor had an ashen look on her face as she stumbled backward and bumped into the corner of the table. "That's impossible," she mumbled.Gabriel was also stunned. He looked at Taylor in disbelief before turning to me."How can this be? Taylor, you—""It wasn't me! You have to believe me, Gabe! She's framing me!" Taylor grabbed Gabriel's arm tightly as though she were clinging to her last lifeline. However, Gabriel shoved her hand away and pinned her with a disappointed look.T

Oliver looked very similar to James. At that moment, restraint and uneasiness were written all over his face."You… Aren't you Mary's mother?" he asked carefully.Tears streamed down my face.Oliver remembered. He still remembered Marilyn.I rushed over to him and grabbed his wrists, asking, "Where's Mary? Where's my daughter? You saw her, didn't you?"Oliver was startled by my reaction and took a step backward."Please calm down, Mrs. Lopez. I… I know who Mary is. She's one of the kids on Dad's bus. But I didn't see her today."I felt as if my last spark of hope had been snuffed out. I let go of his wrists, feeling the strength drain from my body."You… you didn't see her today?""I didn't," Oliver repeated, scratching his head. "When I drove to your area this morning, I waited for a long time in front of your house. But she never came out. I assumed that she was taking the day off, so I left."He took out a small, pink hair clip from his pocket and offered it to me. "Oh, th
