It was really late at night when they returned in a cab. Catherine helped the weak Tessa down from the cab but when she offered to carry her in, Tessa refused.

“You sure you don’t want me to?”

“Uh-huh, I’m fine.” Tessa gingerly went for the door and into the house; Catherine was on her heels.

They both stopped to look at Frank who was sitting on the rug, looking like his whole life was over.

“Tessa? Why don’t you go up and get ready for bed, I’ll be there to tuck you in.”

“Urh... okay.” Tessa was hesitant, but she pushed herself towards the stairs.

“Can you manage by yourself?” Catherine called after her.

“Yes.” She waited until she heard Tessa’s room door shut, before she gave her attention to Frank.
