Chapter 1

I knew I'd been reborn the second I stood in the front hall and saw my Alpha mate, Caden Fellhart, stroll in—with Lilith Morvain at his side.

"Brielle, this is Lilith Morvain," he said, all casual. "Childhood friend. Just got back from Fangridge Pack. Her parents are gone, and she's carrying a pup. She's a single mom.

"She's living with us now. Take care of her."

Lilith gave me this careful look. "Hey, Brielle. Hope we can get along..."

My eyes dropped to the Moonstone necklace on her neck.

Caden dropped a fortune at last week's auction for that Moonstone. Said it was a birthday gift for me. Custom-made.

Now it was hanging from her neck.

In my last life, seeing that necklace—my necklace—around Lilith's neck kept me up all night. I thought she was here to steal Caden's heart.

Next morning, I handed her some cash and told her to leave. Said she should rest somewhere else while carrying her pup.

Didn't expect her to get hit by a car the same day. She lost the pup... and the crash made it impossible for her to have more.

Caden snapped after that.

His eyes went ice-cold. "Brielle Brightfall, I'm done. Never thought you'd really banish an expecting she-wolf?"

He never smiled at me again. Not once.

I took care of Lilith myself—every single day. Cooked her food, cleaned up after her, handled everything.

Walked on eggshells, hoping Caden might forgive me eventually.

But the stress wrecked me. I got sick—bone-deep, wolf-weak sick. Thought maybe that'd finally crack something in him.

All he said was, "Once you're gone, I'll be with Lilith. I'll take care of her. Help her heal from losing the pup."

Now that the Moon Goddess gave me a second shot—I'm letting them have each other.

So when Caden said—again—that Lilith would be staying with us, I just nodded.

"Alright."

The way I agreed threw him off.

He'd been pushing it for days. I'd shot him down every time.

"You're not upset?" he asked.

I gave him a small smile. "You're right. She lost her parents, and she's carrying a pup. Poor thing."

Caden looked at me hard. "You really don't care?"

Of course he didn't buy it. Everyone knew how deep I used to be in love with him.

Back then, if a she-wolf even looked at him too long, I'd bare my claws. He was mine.

Now? I just pulled out a document, folded it so only the signature line showed—the mate bond severance clause—and handed it over.

"I found a house I want. Buy it for me, and I won't care. I'll even look after Lilith."

He paused, then gave this smug little chuckle. "That's it? No other conditions?"

Didn't even read it—just signed.

The second I held that signed severance, my wolf howled inside me.

Freedom.

I slipped it into my bag and walked out without looking back.

Caden stepped in front of me, frowning. "Where are you going? Thought you said you weren't upset. You leaving?"

I looked him in the eye. "Didn't you ask me to take care of Lilith? I'm grabbing her a few things."

His expression softened. "She likes rose-scented body wash, doesn't drink milk, and her sleepwear's gotta be silk. Don't mess that up."

My chest clenched.

He remembered everything about her. Every scent, every habit. But never once had he known those things about me, his mate.

Yeah. He really did care about her.

I nodded and walked out—straight to the city hall.

The clerk gave me a warm smile. "Ms. Brightfall, the severance is active. In seven days, your bond with Caden Fellhart will be fully dissolved."

I nodded. Seven days.

Seven days, and he'd mean nothing to me.

Ron and I kept moving, city after city, never slowing down. Two years later, we hit the Moonhowl Pack's territory—and ran straight into Caden. He looked wrecked. Like life had chewed him up and spit him out.The fire in his eyes? Gone."Brielle... long time," he said, voice dull. Then he looked at Ron, like he wanted to ask—but didn't.I didn't give him the chance. I lifted Ron's hand, showing off our mate rings."This is my mate, Ron Ravencross."Then I turned to Ron. "Caden Fellhart. The Alpha of Moonhowl."Caden flinched. "Not Alpha anymore," he muttered, voice rough. He'd passed the title to his little brother. Spent his days ghosting through life.I was ready to leave when he dropped it—"Brielle... I dreamed of our past life too."I froze mid-step.He kept talking."When I woke up, I couldn't breathe. I was already breaking, but that dream? It shattered me. After you died, I realized how much I loved you. I didn't stay with Lilith."Tears spilled down his face."I

Ron and I drifted through one stunning place after another. He was a surprisingly solid guide, and with him, everything felt easier—lighter. We were heading to another destination when I spotted someone outside the airport—lone figure, ragged aura. The second he saw me, his eyes flared red."Brielle... I've searched so long for you. I finally found you."His voice was wrecked, dry, heavy with exhaustion.I froze. Took me a sec to place him."Caden? What the hell are you doing here?"Seriously—how'd he even find me? I'd been bouncing from town to town, never staying long enough for a scent trail."Brielle... Brielle!"He kept shouting like a broken record, red-eyed and wrecked, but I kept moving, suitcase dragging behind me.Then—bam—he caught up, yanked my hand, and crushed me into a hug."Brielle, how could you be this cruel? You ghosted me. Vanished. When the mate bond snapped—I lost it. I was wrecked."His voice cracked. Arms locked around me like he thought he could glu

Caden stood in the living room, hollow and wrecked. No clue where Brielle could've gone. She had no one—no pack, no blood ties. Just gone. The thought of her out there alone, rogue and unclaimed, made his chest tighten. His gaze dragged across the space. For the first time ever, the mansion didn't feel like home. It felt like a stranger. The carpets were pink now—Lilith's favorite.Brielle's tasseled curtains? Gone. Swapped for those sheer ones because Lilith said tassels were "tacky."Even the silver wolf sculpture Brielle made by hand? Melted. Turned into Luna bling by Lilith.Somehow, without him even noticing, every trace of Brielle had vanished. Now the place reeked of Lilith, like she'd been Luna from day one.How the hell hadn't he seen it?He'd actually been proud they got along. How could he have been that blind to Brielle's pain? His chest ached so bad it felt like he couldn't breathe. Guilt. Regret. Crushing him from every side.He had to find her. Had to fix

Lilith froze, hand over her cheek, eyes locked on Caden. What the hell? He'd always been the sweet one—soft-spoken, gentle. Now he was looking at her like she was some rogue. Then it clicked. Her stomach dropped. He knew.Caden whipped out the surveillance footage like it was a damn weapon."You set up Brielle?" Caden's voice was pure rage. "You hid a venomous snake in that gift box, pinned it on her, got her bitten. You're bold, Lilith. Real bold."He snapped. One second calm, the next his hand was around her throat.Lilith clawed at him, face flushing red.He didn't let go until she went limp, skin turning a scary shade of purple. Then he tossed her onto the couch like she was nothing. She crumpled, silent for a beat—then the coughing hit, rough and raw, like her lungs were tearing apart.Eyes wide with panic, she dragged herself to his feet, shaking."Caden, I messed up, okay? I'm sorry! We grew up together—and I'm carrying your pup—please, don't do this!"Caden stared

Still no sign of Brielle. But Caden stumbled onto something else. While chasing down surveillance footage, the auction house owner sent over a clip—then added with a smirk,"Alpha, that side chick of yours? She's trouble. Dangerous. Fun to mess with, sure, but don't let her play you."Caden frowned. "Lilith's a pack sister. Not a lover. My mate is Brielle. Always has been."The guy gave him a look like he'd grown a second head."Please. Everyone in the territory thinks you two are a thing. You expect anyone to buy the 'just siblings' act? She sure doesn't."A chill crept through Caden's gut.He hit play. The footage showed Brielle at the auction, calm and focused, paying big for a ruby bracelet. She placed it gently into a gift box—the same one she later handed to Lilith at the birthday party. Then Caden's face darkened. The video shifted. Lilith, slipping cash to a staffer. The bracelet got swapped for a snake.Caden went cold. His hands shook as the next part played out

A mate bond severance certificate.Caden's hands shook as he stared at it, heart slamming against denial. The bold red seal from the city hall blazed across the page. The date? Same day he brought Lilith home.Darkness closed in at the edges of his sight.Jaw tight, voice low and dangerous, he growled, "Brielle Brightfall, is this a joke... or payback?"Caden stormed upstairs and threw open the bedroom door—then froze.Brielle was gone. Her vanity? Stripped clean. Half the walk-in closet—empty. Not even a hairpin left in the bathroom. He blinked, hoping he was seeing things. Checked again. And again.Nope.She really ended the mate bond. And walked out of his life.Caden scrambled to remember signing the papers. He hadn't. So how the hell did she get it approved?Panic clawed at his chest. With shaking hands, he grabbed his phone and called.Blocked.No matter how many times he hit redial, it wouldn't go through.Behind him, Lilith watched it all unfold, silent.A s
