I made my way towards my men wondering to myself if ignoring her was the best thing to do.

I couldn't help it, I was embarrassed of what I almost did last night.

"That was quick. Trouble in paradise?" Viktor asked, cutting through my thought with a voice filled with sarcasm, his sharp gaze already analyzing me.

"Hmm." I grunted in response, unwilling to indulge him.

'What do we do Kai?’ I called out internally, my mind searching for my Lycan. ‘She doesn't seem to remember last night, that's a good thing right?' I asked only to be replied with silence.

I could feel Viktor's questioning gaze lingering over me like a second skin

"You look pale, Dante." His voice held an edge of concern now, his teasing momentarily forgotten.

"I'm fine," I coldly replied. But was I truly fine?

"It's the bond isn't it? It's almost that time again" Viktor whispered as his gaze fell on my tent.

That time again.

The words rang in my ears.

I raised my gaze to my tent where Kira was.

Kira was having another nightmare. Her brow was furrowed so deeply it looked painful, and her hand was clenched so tightly into a fist that I was scared she'd draw blood if she pressed any harder. My chest ached at the sight of her trembling, caught in a world I couldn’t reach. I sat beside her on the bed, and shook her lightly, my voice soft. "Kira." She mumbled something incoherent, still trapped in whatever dream she was having.I called her name again. "Kira." Seeing her like this broke me. She had been slowly unravelling these past few days. I wanted to take away her pain, but I didn't know how to help her. Ragnar snorted in my head, his voice sharp and mocking. "More like you know how to help her, but you don't want to because you know it won't turn out well for you." "Shut up," I hissed at him. "I'm not lying," he shot back. "What the hell is your problem? You're going to let our mate suffer with not knowing who she is when you can just tell her?" "Oh, yeah" I replied sa

I sat up patiently as the priestess changed my bandages, trying not to wince when her fingers brushed too close to the tender wound. My jaw tightened, but I forced myself to remain still, watching her hands with narrowed eyes. Even though I was now fully conscious and my wound was healing, it was still a bit slower than it should have been, and that irritated me."It might be Ravenna's influence," Zaram said in my head, her voice calm but edged with suspicion. My brows furrowed. "But she said she'd help me," I whispered back. "Shouldn't this have been gone by now?" Zaram remained silent, and as the priestess finished her work on me, I waved her away dismissively, not bothering to thank her. My lips curled into a thin smile the moment the door shut. A short while after I'd regained consciousness, I'd found out exactly where my dear mother had dumped me. The temple of the moon. A cage dressed up as a sanctuary. Where eyes would watch me twenty-four-seven. But at least to her credit,

"This isn't how I pictured our next meeting," Jon said, his voice low as he took a step closer to me.I kept my expression guarded, refusing to show the shiver that ran down my spine.I turned to address the servants and guards. "Leave us." I commanded sharply. They left, but Jon's guards remained. When I raised an eyebrow at him, he smirked, the corner of his mouth lifting in that infuriatingly confident way, then waved a casual hand at the guards. They too, left. And just like that, we were alone. Jon gave a short, mocking laugh. "Are you going to stand over there to talk to me, Odessa? What, you like being above me? I knew being a Queen would suit you." Slowly, I began to walk down the steps of the dias, My chin lifted slightly, until I was on the last step, and less than two feet away from him. I stood straight, and stared him straight in the eyes as he casually stared at me. "You still feel it," he said after a long beat of silence. Yes, Diane whispered to me. "I don't know

As I walked, I was quiet, my face was calm, my lips pressed into a thin line pretending not to notice the ashen faced man walking beside me. Raymond hadn't been able to take his eyes off me since the moment he saw me. His reaction at first was so extreme it was almost comical. He'd actually stumbled, his steps faltering, and then stood frozen and gaped at me like a fish out of water. Standing in front of him like she was, Odessa hadn't noticed. In fact, looking at them both, it seemed like she barely noticed him at all. They stood close together, but their body language hinted at something else. They might want to paint a picture of unity, but I knew them both. It was all an act. I scoffed quietly under my breath. Raymond glanced at me again. Finally, we arrived at the door of the room I guessed I'd be staying in. "You can leave now," Raymond said to the servants who had accompanied us, his voice, firm and low. They bowed and left immediately. I decided to acknowledge him for the

By the time we got back to the palace, my heart was pounding, and I was jittery with nerves. As I swung down from my horse, I wondered if it was because of the impending war, or because I'd be seeing him again. Jon.Even the thought of his name did things to me. A servant hurried out of the palace to us. He bowed as he reached us. "Where are they?" I asked, striding forward. "They've been ushered into the throne room, Your Majesties." "Good," I said, speeding through the palace, Raymond behind me. When we got to the side door to the throne room, we both paused, and took deep breaths to compose ourselves. "How do you think this will go?" Raymond asked quietly. "Only one way to find out," I muttered, pushing the door open and striding in. My eyes were drawn to him like magnets. Jon was exactly how I remembered him, but also seemed to have changed. He was larger than life, and oh ever so handsome. My body responded immediately, though I kept my expression passive as I walked up

The darkness was suffocating. It seeped into my pores, punishing, making me feel like I would explode in the next second if I didn't let it all out. I needed an outlet. Kai was fighting in my head, trying to get out. My control was slipping. Honestly, it should have slipped a long time ago. Only the knowledge of what she expected of me kept me from losing it. "Don't destroy the Lore. Promise me..."The memory of her voice was like a dagger to my heart. Kira... My Kira... Where are you? I moved with the shadows, welcoming their touch on my skin. My wraiths led the way to the place I needed to go. Kira had told me to search for her. To not let her go. So I wouldn't. As I got closer to my destination, the pull of death became stronger, making the wraiths surrounding me feel more insubstantial. Being this close to the gate without being sucked in should have been impossible for them, but their ties to me kept that from happening, even if I also felt the pull. I passed through a dark
