Chapter 2

Author: Sette
I couldn't be bothered to argue anymore, so I simply said, "Are you done? If you're done, then let's go. You've gotten orders from the top, right? Then you should know you're supposed to be picking me up."

The air grew tense in an instant. Cristiano's men exchanged confused glances, then burst into laughter.

Tania let out a soft laugh, the contempt in her eyes clear as day. "Silvia, why are you still such a pathological liar? We're here on orders to pick up the Martelli family's Donna. Do you even know who that is?"

Of course, I knew.

"She's the one person Don Martelli would never allow anyone to mess with! He's ruthless with everyone else, but when it comes to his Donna, he does whatever she says."

"The entire underworld is tripping over themselves to stay on her good side. She's that important. How could someone like you possibly compare to her?"

As I listened in silence, I smirked. In the three years we'd been married, Cesare's influence had only grown stronger.

And naturally, the rumors about how he doted on his wife had gotten completely blown out of proportion.

Tania was just about to keep running her mouth when she suddenly noticed the ring on my finger.

It was the "Tears of the Goddess", a one-of-a-kind piece Cesare had spent a fortune having custom-made for me. It was also his anniversary gift to me for our second wedding anniversary.

Tania stared at it intently before suddenly shrieking, "Where did you get that?"

Before I could react, she stepped forward and yanked it right off my finger, holding it up to the light to inspect it.

"The craftsmanship isn't bad. It actually looks halfway decent. Silvia, I didn't expect your scamming skills to improve so much over the last three years. Or did you steal it off some random man you hooked up with?"

Having the ring forcibly removed left my ring finger red. I was starting to get mad. "Give it back."

I reached out to grab it, but Cristiano blocked me with a cold glare. "Silvia, are you done making a scene? You're seriously wearing a fake ring out in public? Aren't you worried people would notice and make a fool of you?"

With a frown, I blurted out, "A fake? My husband gave that to me!"

Tania let out a sharp scoff. "Alright, Silvia. You got caught in a lie, so just accept it. If this ring were real, then what next? Are you going to tell us you're the apple of Don Martelli's eye?"

Another round of loud laughter erupted around me. They were all looking at me with nothing but contempt.

As far as they were concerned, I was still the same Silvia who was left freezing to death in the snow three years ago. And with Cesare being as powerful and influential as he was, they simply couldn't imagine him having anything to do with me.

Tania toyed with the ring between her fingers and smiled. "Silvia, this ring doesn't suit you at all. Why don't you just give it to me?"

I refused without a second thought, my voice growing colder with every word. "No. Cesare gave this to me himself—"

Before I could finish, Cristiano slapped me hard across the face. His brow furrowed. "Silvia, do you have any idea what you're saying?"

As soon as we got home, Cesare called in every top doctor in North Arocia. With an awkward smile, I told him he was overreacting, that it was just a scratch and there was no need to make such a massive fuss. But he just looked at me with a serious and worried expression, saying, "Anything involving you is never a small matter."My heart warmed at that, and I didn't try to stop him anymore. A few days later, I was lounging on the porch swing in the backyard, soaking up the sun, when a thoroughly disheveled Cristiano suddenly appeared at the gate.Only a few days had passed, but he looked a lot more haggard now. His hair was a tangled mess, his jaw was covered in stubble, and his clothes were soaked and filthy. The moment he saw me, his eyes immediately turned red. "Silvia, I finally found you…"Standing behind the iron gates, I watched him warily, my hand ready to hit the panic button at any moment.Seeing how wary I was, Cristiano quickly spoke up. "Don't worry, Silvia. I'm not g

Cristiano's eyes went wide at those words. "Silvia, what do you mean by that? How dare you let another man touch you? Aren't you afraid that I might not want you anymore?"He staggered to his feet and reached for me, only for Cesare to kick him away.Cesare calmly adjusted his cufflinks as he met Cristiano's resentful gaze. "Who are you to expect my wife to remain chaste for you? Three years ago, you left Silvia to die alone on that mountain. If it weren't for me, she would already be dead."You're just a lowlife who only gained influence through your wife's sacrifices. What makes you think you can set your sights on Silvia?"You're already as good as dead, yet you still have the nerve to disrespect my wife?"As soon as he said that, a ripple of mocking laughter spread through the dead-silent room. Cristiano's face flushed bright red, and his body trembled with humiliation and rage.It was clear to me now that even after being given another life, Cristiano's pride was still what

Cesare let go of my waist, then slowly closed the distance between himself and Cristiano.Cristiano was down on his knees, while Cesare stood over him, looking down at him. "If I'm not mistaken, you were the ones who insisted on going to the airport to receive my wife."And now, it is also your people who have hurt her."Even though his voice was calm, it sent a chill down everyone's spine. "Tell me exactly what happened between you two over the past few days, and what you did to her. And you'd better not leave a single detail out."You already know what'll happen to you if my men find out the truth before you come clean."It was an unmistakable, outright threat. I'd been married to Cesare for three years, so I knew just how furious he was at the moment.Cristiano swallowed hard, his emotions a tangled mess. He never imagined that the woman who used to chase after him would one day become Cesare Martelli's wife. And seeing Cesare defend me right in front of him sent the inexplic

Tania's knees buckled in fear, and she crumpled to the ground. Those who had mocked me earlier all lowered their heads, afraid Cesare would come after them too. After all, no one had expected that the Donna they'd been dying to suck up to was the exact same broke woman they had just looked down on.The ring symbolizing my status had been right there on my finger, yet they blindly believed Tania and had the nerve to openly disrespect me.The thought of having crossed the Don of the Martelli family had everyone holding their breath in fear.Just then, one of the men who had been with Cristiano at the airport shoved his way through the crowd. He had clearly just walked in and had absolutely zero clue what had just gone down. The second his eyes landed on me, he started running his mouth. "Silvia, how dare you show up here? You were the one who turned down being Cristiano's mistress and refused to come to the banquet back at the airport. So, stop clinging to us like you have no shame

The second Cesare got a good look at me, his face turned visibly grim. My health had never been the same since Cesare rescued me from the mountains. From then on, he did everything he could to nurse me back to health, including staying by my side around the clock and getting me the best tonics. If he had known I'd get hurt, he would've dropped everything and come get me himself. But had I known I'd run into Cristiano, I never would have shown up at the airport alone in the first place.Ignoring the stunned looks from the crowd, Cesare zeroed in on my wound. "Babe, tell me which idiot dares lay a hand on my wife!"He grabbed my hand, his fingertips trembling with rage. The moment he said that, everyone in the hall went deathly pale.I was the only one who felt a sense of warmth as I looked at the man before me.Even now, despite being at the top of the food chain, Cesare still made me his top priority. When I was pregnant, my morning sickness was so bad I couldn't keep food down,

Three days later, I did my makeup, slipped into the bespoke gown Cesare had personally picked out for me, and headed to the venue alone. But the moment I walked in, I locked eyes with Cristiano, who was looking incredibly smug. "Silvia, I knew you couldn't stay away from me. If you really want to win me back, then all you have to do is dress up nicely."I ignored the narcissistic Cristiano and walked straight past him.Infuriated by my attitude, Cristiano grabbed my wrist. "Silvia, I'm talking to you. What is your problem? Our seats aren't over there. Where do you think you're going?"With a frown, I shook off his hand and said coolly, "Who said I was sitting with you?"I jerked my chin toward the center of the venue as I said, "If you're done, I'm going over there now."Cristiano followed my gaze, and his face fell instantly.Tania blinked, suddenly pointing at the ring on my finger."Silvia, do you even know whose seat that is? Are you trying to cause trouble by showing up he
