Chapter 3

Autor: Sandoo
As time ticked by, I kept playing my part as a mentally unstable lunatic.

I would be crying one moment, and laughing hysterically in the next. Sometimes, I pointed at the air and cursed.

Harold and his team tried everything, but nothing could snap me out of it.

Finally, they had no choice but to call a psychiatrist.

The psychiatrist conducted a series of simple questions and tests on me, and I used everything I had seen from real psychiatric patients in my past life in prison to fool him completely.

His preliminary diagnosis was suspected acute stress disorder, with severe delusions and paranoia. He then recommended my immediate transfer to a specialized hospital for further diagnosis and treatment.

Harold looked at the diagnosis report in his hand with a grim expression.

If I were certified as mentally ill, then any actions I took would be under limited capacity and wouldn't be criminally punishable. This bank robbery case might end up going nowhere in the end.

Harold looked at me. His gaze was full of suspicion. How could such a cut-throat businesswoman suddenly go crazy? It just didn't add up.

I could feel his scrutinizing stare, but I didn't care. I just kept my head down, fiddling with my fingers as I hummed a nursery rhyme out of tune.

The clock on the wall pointed to 11:29 am. There was only a minute left.

In my past life, the text message confirming the loan approval was sent to Zachary's phone at exactly 11:30 am.

The second hand ticked by. Each tick of the clock seemed to land squarely on my chest.

The moment the hands aligned on the clock face, I stopped humming and slowly raised my head. The madness and confusion on my face vanished instantly, replaced by a still calmness.

I looked at Harold and said clearly, "I'll confess. I planned this armored truck robbery a long time ago. I'm not insane, and bear full criminal responsibility."

The entire interrogation room fell so silent that you could hear a pin drop.

Harold and the psychiatrist both stared at me like I was some kind of monster. One second, I was incurably insane, and the next, I was as calm as a normal person?

This was even more unbelievable than seeing something supernatural.

I ignored their shock and continued, "I'm willing to accept all legal consequences. Now, could I have a glass of water?"

My attitude had done a complete 180.

Harold was stunned for a long moment before finally gesturing to an officer to get me some water. I took the cup from him and calmly took a sip.

I knew that over at the bank, Zachary's loan application had been rejected.

The credibility of a corporate legal representative would be completely ruined after getting caught robbing a bank on a livestream. No bank's risk control system would approve a loan for someone like that.

My first step had succeeded.

Not long after my "confession", the door to the interrogation room opened again. Zachary and Yvette walked in, followed by Liam.

Liam had a multitude of expressions on his face—worry, confusion, and the hurt from my earlier madness.

As for Zachary and Yvette, their expressions were full of "concern".

"Wen!" Zachary rushed over to me the moment he entered.

He grabbed my hand and stared at me with a heartbroken gaze. "How could you be so foolish? If there was trouble in the company, you could've talked to me! Why did you have to resort to this?"

Yvette, with her eyes red-rimmed, chimed in right after. "Yeah, Wen! We're like family. Can't we face things together? By doing this, you're pushing us all away!"

They performed with such passion and vivid emotion. It sounded as if they were truly heartbroken for me.

All I wanted to do was laugh as I watched their hypocritical farce.

"Family?" I pulled my hand back and glared at them. "Zachary, since when did you and your precious Yvette, become my family?"

Zachary's expression stiffened, and Yvette's gaze flickered slightly too.

Having sensed something was wrong, Liam frowned and asked, "Wen, what do you mean?"

I didn't answer him. Instead, I looked at Harold. "Mr. Jones, I'm not just confessing to the robbery—I'm also here to report a crime."

I pointed at Zachary and Yvette. "I suspect the two of them are guilty of embezzlement. They forged the company seal and my signature in an attempt to scam the bank for a loan of 500 million dollars!"

As soon as I spoke, everyone in the room was stunned into silence.

I looked down at the figure who had been silently standing in a corner the whole time—Harold. He gave me a slight nod, and I smiled."What's the rush, Mr. Leed?" I raised the microphone. My voice was tinged with amusement as I asked, "You want the password for that trust fund, right? I'll tell you what it is."Jeremy's movements froze for a moment."The password is the username for Zachary's overseas gambling account. That's an interesting password, wouldn't you say?"Jeremy's eyes widened at those words.Just then, the doors to the banquet hall were suddenly pushed open. A large group of uniformed police officers flooded in.The one leading the charge was Harold, who walked up onto the stage and produced an arrest warrant."Jeremy and Zachary Leed, you're suspected of multiple counts of financial fraud, illegal embezzlement, and premeditated murder. Please come with us for questioning."The words "premeditated murder" hit Jeremy like a sledgehammer. He swayed, and his knees

Harold looked at me for a long time without speaking. In the end, he placed the voice recorder on the table."This contains your entire conversation with Mrs. Leed just now. That so-called trust fund of yours is fake, right?" he asked.I nodded."You're luring them out," Harold said, hitting the nail on the head."Yes," I admitted readily. "Jeremy is cunning. There's no way to get anything on him through normal means. I have to use what he's most greedy for to make him slip up on his own."Harold gave me a long, hard look. "You're playing with fire. If you lose control, you'll be burned to ashes.""I'm not afraid." I smiled. "When you've got nothing to lose, what's there to be afraid of?"…The Leeds moved quickly. They spent a fortune hiring the best legal team and applied for Zachary's release on bail, claiming he was "coerced by a mentally ill person".At the same time, Jeremy used his connections to pull strings everywhere he could. Not long after, Zachary was released. The press conference was a great success.Liam's tearful performance, combined with the bombshell about the "overseas trust fund", immediately ignited public opinion.Everyone's attention shifted from the bank robbery and the company's mess to this mysterious, massive inheritance. As I expected, the Leeds couldn't sit still. The day after the press conference, Zachary's mother, Ginerva Rhodes, paid me a visit. She came bearing a fruit basket and a "loving" expression. The moment she entered the hospital room, she grabbed my hand and burst into tears."You poor thing! You've suffered so much. It's all Zachary's fault. He didn't take good care of you and made you…"I stared blankly at her, continuing to play my part as a madwoman. She rambled on, with her main point being that Zachary loved me and that we were about to get married. Once I got better, we'd go register the marriage. She also promised she would cherish me like her own daughter.I sneered on the inside, but my expre

Zachary and Yvette were taken into criminal detention for suspected loan fraud and commercial fraud.I lay on the hospital bed, staring at the square patch of sky outside the window. Everything was going according to my plan.Over the next few days, things blew up even faster than I had imagined."Beautiful CEO Who Robbed an Armored Truck on Livestream is Suspected to Be Mentally Unstable Due to Stress.""Starlight Tech Rocked by Shocking Scandal—Executives Detained for Massive Loan Fraud."The news was everywhere, making the company's shares plummet to the point of being suspended. Numerous people—shareholders, partners, and the media—nearly blew up Liam's phone with calls.Liam bore all the pressure alone. He shuttled daily between the hospital and company, and I could see him getting visibly worn down.Whenever he came to see me, he always forced a smile."Wen, don't worry. I'm handling the company. It's not going under.""Those shareholders are just fair-weather friends. I

Zachary's face turned pale instantly."Wendy, what the hell are you talking about?" he shouted harshly, trying to cover up his panic."It's easy enough to find out if I'm insane." I leaned back in my chair and glanced at him with leisurely composure."At 10:00 am today, you went into the VIP room at Southgate Bank, right? You met with Melinda Croft, the bank's branch manager, didn't you? You then submitted a 500-million-dollar loan application using my company, Starlight Tech, as collateral, correct?"With every word I spoke, Zachary and Yvette paled a little more. They hadn't expected me to know their every move so clearly."The company seal you used was the one Yvette had someone secretly duplicate. As for my signature, it's something you must have practiced thousands of times, Zachary. You've put a lot of effort into this."I looked at him and smiled cruelly. "Oh, right. You also promised Ms. Croft a ten-million-dollar bribe once the deal was done. You were planning to transfe
