Chapter 4

مؤلف: City Below the Hill
The next day, right on time, I sent Sarah a message.

“Congratulations on your wedding!”

At the wedding, Sarah kept glancing toward the entrance. Finally, she asked her secretary, Lucy, in a low voice, “Why isn’t Henry here yet? He agreed to apologize publicly to Mrs. Ziegler today.”

Lucy was scrolling through the news on her phone, her brows drawn tight.

“I don’t think he’s coming,” she said slowly. “He’s busy getting married right now.”

The moment Sarah heard that, she froze in the middle

Sarah’s gaze landed on me. After hearing her words, all I felt for her was deep disgust and aversion. I turned to Summer. From now on, I knew I had to protect her and never let anyone with ill intentions hurt her. Then, taking Summer’s hand in mine, we left the beach together. After our honeymoon, we returned to South City. I officially took over the company, and Summer became the head of the Flores Group. Even amid the busyness, we managed to steal quiet moments for ourselves. Life, surprisingly, had its pleasures. One day, while I was working in the office, my assistant suddenly said a woman downstairs wanted to see me. I refused, but he insisted. The visitor was Sarah, and she said she had come to fulfill a promise.I walked into the reception room to see that Sarah’s belly was now visible. She sat on the sofa and handed me a padlock. I recognized it immediately as the one we had hung on Lovers’ Bridge three years ago.The golden light of the setting sun framed her face as she s

Tim swung his fist at me again. I dodged it narrowly.“You should stop slandering people!” he shouted. “Sarah went through IVF just for you! Do you have any idea how much pain she had to go through?”I froze. My face drained of color instantly. Back then, Sarah and I had indeed frozen our sperm and eggs as a precaution, in case we couldn’t conceive naturally in the future. However, I never thought she would exploit that loophole.Instinctively, I turned to look at Summer in panic, but she looked calm. For some reason, a wave of irritation surged inside me.Summer smiled brightly. “So, Ms. Weller, what exactly is your demand?”“Divorce her,” Sarah said, “and marry me.”“No way.” I rejected Sarah outright. Somehow, I no longer had even the slightest desire to marry Sarah. Instead, hearing her say that only made me worry that Summer might misunderstand.Summer kept smiling. “In olden times, a mistress bearing a child for the family was considered a good thing. Going by that logic

She grabbed my hand. “Henry, you know this. I love you. What happened between Tim and me was just a moment of weakness. If it weren’t for his mother, I would never have agreed to marry him.”I pulled my hand free and looked at her calmly, saying nothing. She suddenly broke down, crying and shouting, “That was filial devotion! Could you bear seeing a single mother die with regrets? How can you, wealthy people, be so cold-blooded? You don’t understand the suffering of ordinary folks like us!”As she screamed, a figure shoved through the crowd and rushed straight toward me. Seeing the glint reflected from the knife, Summer lunged forward and shoved me away. With a dull, sickening sound, the knife plunged into Summer’s back. Blood soaked through her clothes in an instant.“Doctor!” I shouted hoarsely. “Call a doctor!”The attacker—a middle-aged woman—was quickly restrained by security. Even as she struggled, she screamed hysterically, “Give me back my son! Give me back my son!”Only

Three days later came the wedding reception dinner, and it also happened to be Grant Corp’s anniversary celebration. After some discussion, both families decided to combine the events and host them together. No one, however, had expected things to spiral out of control, with Sarah inviting reporters to the press conference and publicly accusing Summer of being the mistress in the relationship. In an instant, microphones were shoved toward Summer, voices overlapping, cameras flashing. The scene descended into chaos. I immediately stepped in front of Summer and faced the reporters head-on.“Summer is my legally married wife,” I said coldly. “All documents are valid. Where exactly does this ‘mistress’ accusation come from? I advise everyone here to be careful with their words. Otherwise, Grant Corp’s legal team will be pursuing this.”Only then did the reporters quiet down slightly. However, Sarah had come prepared. She signaled the staff, and the massive screen behind us lit up. What

A phone was connected to the large screen. The moment the display lit up, a flood of obscene images and explicit words assaulted everyone’s eyes. The screen was filled with a full year’s worth of chat records between Sarah and Tim. At the very end was a video so explicit that people’s faces burned just from watching it.Sarah’s face drained of all color in an instant, turning paper-white. She had no idea how I had those, and did that mean that I knew everything? When she saw that Tim was the one who sent them, her expression froze. Ever since Tim returned a year ago, he had been constantly sending screenshots of their chat to me, subtly pushing me to back off and withdraw. Now it all made sense why I had stopped kissing her a year ago and why my attitude toward her had changed so drastically. When the unbearable sounds echoed through the hall, Sarah suddenly rushed forward and slammed her hand against the screen.“Don’t look! Nobody look!” she screamed. “This is fake!”She fumble

The venue was filled with her favorite champagne roses, transforming the entire space into something straight out of a dream. Beneath the stage, guests raised their glasses and chatted happily. Everything looked perfect, yet Sarah clenched her phone tightly, staring at the headline glowing on the screen.“CEO of Grant Corp Marries and Officially Launches the ‘True Love’ Jewelry Collection.”Cold sweat broke out in her palms. She hurriedly dialed a number she knew by heart, but n
