Chapter 10

Author: Coco An
Somehow, Shane had found out about my upcoming engagement. He came to see me again.

“Indy, I heard you’re getting married?”

His face was a mask of sorrow. His eyes were filled with a profound despair.

“Can’t you give me one more chance? I promise I won’t make the same mistakes.”

I looked at him, but my heart remained unmoved.

“Shane, there’s no going back. I have a fiance now. I’ll never get back together with you.”

Shane was stunned. He lowered his head. His voice was thick with emotion.

“Do you hate me that much?”

I sighed and shook my head.

“I don’t hate you, Shane. I just don’t love you anymore.”

Shane was silent for a long moment before he looked up at me again.

“Okay. I wish you all the happiness.”

With those words, he turned and walked away.

His retreating figure was a quiet picture of sorrow.

After Shane left, word spread quickly through the social circles that the heir of the Etzler family was getting engaged.

  • Goodbye, Everyone   Chapter 9

As I stepped out of the Leonberg house, I ran into someone familiar. It was Jim.He was no longer the reckless, entitled young man I used to know. He had matured into a steadier, more grounded gentleman. When he saw me, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes, followed by a smile.“Indy, you’re back! You’ve gotten even prettier. I almost didn’t recognize you!”I offered a smile in return. “You’ve changed, too, Jim.”He scratched his head and looked a little sheepish.“I went through some things. I guess I finally grew up.”After a pause, he glanced at me and said, “Indy, will you come back home? Mom and Dad have really missed you.”I paused for a moment, then nodded. “Okay.”I had planned to visit them anyway. I wanted to let them know I was safe.Jim and I had just arrived at the house when we were met with a commotion outside the front gate. “Mrs. Grayson, please just let us in.”“We know we were wrong. Please give us a chance.”It was Vera and her mother, Mrs. Cannon.

  • Goodbye, Everyone   Chapter 8

Shane walked out of the Grayson villa in a daze with the ruined wedding dress in his arms. After he was gone, the Grayson family slipped back into their usual calm.I never went back or sought out any news of them.Instead, I returned to the small town where I had grown up. It was a place that had once brought me endless pain, yet it felt deeply familiar.I was not a scrawny little girl anymore. I had grown up.No one here remembered the girl who had been trafficked into town all those years ago.I used my savings to buy a modest house and settled in.I became a teacher at a nearby elementary school. The people here were warm and kind. The children here were naive and genuine. The pain I carried began to fade as I spent days with them.A week later, I turned on my phone and found it flooded with countless messages from Shane.[Indy, where are you?][Indy, please come back!][Indy, I’m sorry. Please give me another chance.]I scrolled through them, but I felt nothing.Fin

Holding the tattered wedding dress in his arms, Shane walked into my room. The moment he pushed the door open, he was stunned at the sight that greeted him.My room had been completely transformed into a little girl’s dance studio. The walls were covered with photos of Arielle in ballet poses. The pink carpet was scattered with her shoes and toys. There was no trace of my things in that room. Shane’s eyes were wide with disbelief as he stared at the scene before him.He pressed a hand to his chest. He could feel a dull ache spreading inside. So, this was how little Indy mattered in this family! At that moment, he finally understood how helpless and heartbroken I must have felt when I was left behind.Shane walked out of the room with the ruined wedding dress in his arms.As he passed through the living room, Jim looked up and was stunned for a second.Shane shot him a cold glance and said in a low voice, “Jim, does your family really see Indy as one of your own?”Jim’s fa

Unable to persuade his parents, Shane had no choice but to come and plead with mine. The moment he stepped inside, Arielle came running to him with her arms outstretched, demanding to be held.“Shane, you’re finally here! I missed you so much!”However, Shane’s mind was completely consumed with finding me. He had no energy for her.He walked straight into the living room. His face darkened instantly at the sight of the disarray.“Mr. and Mrs. Grayson…”My parents glanced at him but said nothing.Shane did not seem to care. His eyes scanned the room until they landed in the corner on a familiar wool blanket from his room.It was the one I had knitted for him by hand. It was something he had always treasured.Yet, at the moment, it was tossed in the corner. It looked dirty. He glared at the maid. His tone was cold. “Who said you could touch anything from my room?”Arielle was startled at his tone and burst into tears.Hearing the commotion, Jim came running in. He glared at

By meal time, I had not returned home.Marie was a little irritated. “What’s taking Indy so long?”Jim was playing a game on his phone. Without even looking up, he said, “She’s probably doing it on purpose. She’s trying to ruin the dinner for everyone! Don’t worry about her, Mom. She’ll be back soon.”Jack put his fork down with a frown. “Where did she even go? Why isn’t she back yet? Didn’t Shane go after her? Why’re they taking so long?”Marie let out an exasperated sigh. “Who knows? She’s probably dragging her feet because Shane went after her. She’s a grown woman but acts like this for attention. Why isn’t Shane back yet?”Instead of worrying about me, they were more worried about Shane.Meanwhile, Shane was searching for me everywhere. In a desperate attempt to make up to me, he had even gone to an auction and bought an exorbitantly expensive ruby necklace. He called me, but my phone was off. Then, he drove to all the places I usually went, but I was nowhere to be found.
