Eloise’s pov
At 10 p.m., I had just laid down to go to sleep when I suddenly received a call from an unknown number in this city.
On the phone, a woman with a clear and pleasant voice asked me. "Your husband is so good in bed!"
I was completely baffled. I was just about to ask her who she was and how she knew how good my husband was in bed.
But the call had already been disconnected, leaving a busy tone.
I thought it was just a prank and didn't pay much attention to it.
But as soon as I put down my phone, it dawned on me: if it was just a prank, how could she have known my number?
Just as I was pondering this, I received another video text message, from the same unknown number that had called me earlier.
A text message followed.
"You don't believe me? Well then, take a good look at your husband Julian’s true colors."
After a few seconds of blankness, I curiously clicked play.
Immediately, a series of a woman's moaning sounds came from my phone, sounding particularly loud against the backdrop of the quiet bedroom, which startled me so much that I quickly turned the volume down!
After recovering from the shock, I glanced at the scene. It was a typical hotel room with a large bed, and men's and women's clothes were scattered all over the floor, their pale bodies entangled with each other.
The only way I can describe the scene was utterly obscene and violent!
I was furious. I thought to myself, who was so bored as to send me pornographic videos in the middle of the night!
Just as I was about to turn it off, a familiar voice drifted out from the video.
"Little vixen, twice already, isn't that enough?"
I felt like I'd been doused with cold water; I jolted awake and immediately stared intently at my phone screen.
"Are you trying to suck me dry?" Then, the man's face appeared on the screen— he was patting the woman's ass, saying with particular smugness.
I was completely stunned; my limbs and body went numb!
The man in the video was my husband— Julian, who was currently on a business trip in Moscow!
As if struck by lightning, my mind instantly lost the ability to think.I forced myself to calm down and watched the video several times.
I eventually determined that the video was not fabricated. Even the shooting time in the upper right corner showed that it was taken tonight, just a few minutes ago.
In other words, my husband used a business trip as an excuse to have sex with his mistress in a hotel!
Looking at Julian’s face in the video, a face I would recognize even if burnt to ashes, I felt utterly heartbroken.
Julian had called me late at night, saying that this client was too difficult to deal with, and that the contract definitely wouldn't be signed unless he drank himself into submission tonight.
He apologized to me with deep remorse, "Baby, I'll fly back as soon as I sober up tomorrow morning. Giving birth is a big deal for you, and I have to be by your side."
In recent years, due to the pandemic, the overall economic environment has been poor, and business has been difficult. Many startup owners have lost a lot of money. Although my husband had lost some money, it wasn't too bad.
After I got pregnant, he said he had to work hard to create good living conditions for our baby, so he worked much harder than before, often drinking until he blacked out and missing his flight home, ending up stranded in other places.
I felt sorry for him constantly entertaining clients for the sake of the company's profits, so I told him not to rush and to come back after he had rested.
I was only 39 weeks pregnant, not even my due date yet, so I told him not to worry. Looking back now, my understanding and consideration were a complete joke.
Were those days when he got drunk and missed his flight really just for business dinners?
I was the kind of person who couldn’t tolerate any flaws, so I immediately did the first thing my mind could bring up.
I called his phone but he hung up after it rang twice!
Then he sent a w******p voice message.
"I'm busy with social engagements and can't answer the phone right now. I miss you so much!"
Socializing?
So you're socializing in bed with other women?
I was filled with grief and anger, and just as I was about to call again, that person sent me a new video.I didn’t know how much courage it took for my trembling fingers to click on the second short video.
In the transparent glass bathroom, Julian was taking a shower, with two used condoms lying on the carpet.
"Babe, you're so bad. You lied to your wife again, saying you were out of town for a social event." The mistress deliberately gave a close-up shot and even asked in the video.
"If I didn't lie to her, how would I have time to spend with you?"
"Isn't she about to give birth? Aren't you going back to be with her?"
He said nonchalantly. "What's so special about a woman giving birth? I'll go back and take care of her, so she won't have to suffer."
"You bastard, is it because your wife is pregnant and it's inconvenient for you to touch her, that you're so unsatisfied? Tonight you almost smashed her to pieces."
"She's nowhere near as good as you," Julian scoffed disdainfully. "Even if she weren't pregnant, I wouldn't bother touching her."
"Liar! You can't even be bothered to touch her, how could she be pregnant? Is the child in her belly from some random guy?"
He remained silent.
The woman then asked, "So, Julian, when exactly are you going to get a divorce?"
Julian said in a flattering tone. "Baby, don't rush, okay? It's not the right time yet. I will never break my promise to you."
The woman was a little angry. "Then tell me, when is 'right time'?"
"Wait for her..."
The video ends abruptly here.
Even though I knew it was a trap set by the mistress to deliberately provoke me, I still fell into it.
Only today did I realize that my husband, Julian, whom I have loved for many years and who has always portrayed himself as the perfect husband, has such an unknown side.
Tears streamed down my face, and my heart was breaking.
The doctor advised me to rest in bed, so he sternly told me to quit my job and focus on my pregnancy.
He would always comfort me by saying that if he cheated on me, I would smash him to pieces and paste the pieces into the walls or throw them into the sewer, so that he would never have a good death in his next life or the life after that.
I was confident that while men all over the world may cheat, my husband would never!
My past self was ridiculous, wasn't it?
Julian was so provoked by my words that when I left, he roared angrily, lunged at me, grabbed the iron fence, and shouted my name."Eloise! I'm going to kill you, you bitch! And Rite! I'm going to kill all of you!"I stopped in my tracks at the doorway. I couldn’t help but turn around. His frenzied appearance was like that of an enraged wild beast. His bloodshot eyes, desperate movements, completely meaningless except for venting his anger. He howled in an almost mournful voice. "You've ruined me! I'm going to kill you all!"For a moment, I felt like I was seeing the real Julian; a look I had never seen before. I shook my head and sighed. Pitiful… he only had himself to blame.Did Rite and I ruin him? No. He ruined himself. Even though Rite used him, it was because he was wicked that he became her pawn. After that, I left the meeting room, and Julian's mournful cries faded into the distance. When I went out, Hayes and Jamie were sitting in the rest area, waiting. They were looking ove
He looked down, shaking his head. "When the teacher came chasing after us to demand tuition, the whole village surrounded our house. Eloise… do you know what I was thinking then? I thought… it’s better not to go to school."He lifted his eyes, voice cracking. "When I told my mother this, she slapped me. She said even if she had to sell her blood, she would send me to school. She cried, she scolded me… 'You must remember this well today,' she said. 'I want you to make something of yourself in the future and trample all those who bullied us under your feet! You have to make me proud, you know?'"Julian’s shoulders shook. "Later… when I was in middle school, even though it was nine years of compulsory education, textbooks were still required. The school knew my family was poor, so they applied for free textbooks for me. But do you know what? Eloise… the textbooks of poor students all had a red stamp with the words 'Free Textbook' written on them."He wiped at his tears, his voice trembl
“You mean… Rite deliberately showed you that website?” I pressed Julian, leaning slightly forward, my eyes narrowed. He ran a hand through his hair, face pale. “I’m not sure. After she came out of the shower, I asked her why she bought medicine from India.”He paused, as if remembering every detail. “She said her brother had some mental problems. A doctor in Switzerland recommended this medicine. She was… doing research, comparing the advantages of this medicine with other drugs.”I frowned. “And you bought it?”Julian nodded, shoulders stiff. “Yes. I bought the medicine… and I was waiting for the right opportunity. I had considered switching to a vitamin pillbox, but I worried that if the items I gave away were discovered during the investigation, I’d become a suspect. I couldn’t risk it.”He exhaled sharply, jaw tight. “Then that day… when you asked me to buy blood pressure medication for Professor, I knew my chance had come.”The thought made my stomach twist. If I hadn’t asked Jul
Once Julian’s affair with Ivy was exposed, not only would he fail to graduate with his doctorate, but his application for postgraduate studies would also be re-examined. Even if he was admitted on merit, he would still be the subject of gossip.Ivy would also be expelled for abusing her position; a scandal that would disgrace Melbourne University, a century-old prestigious institution. No wonder, not long after Julian graduated, Ivy resigned, and no one knew where she went.I felt a deep sadness. I never imagined Julian could stoop so low. I couldn’t reconcile him with the sunny, cheerful boy I once knew. They were completely different people and utterly unrelated.I sneered. “Did you confess these things to the police?”“I confessed but so what?” Julian’s eyes flashed arrogantly. “My guilt was already established, wasn’t it? There’s no point in saying more.”I clenched my fists under the table, keeping my voice calm. “I don’t need to do anything to you. Your crimes will be judged by
“From the first day I came here, I’ve been waiting… waiting for you, Eloise, to come and see me.” Julian leaned back slightly, his fingers tapping the table, a smug glint in his eyes. “We were both too excited that night, and we didn’t have time to talk about many things.”I folded my hands in my lap, keeping my expression calm. “Since you know I’m here to talk to you, please don’t hide it. After all, there’s no need for us to meet so often, which would only increase our resentment. Don’t you think so, Julian?”He chuckled, licked his lips, and glanced at me sideways. “Eloise, do you know? Your arrogant demeanor is somewhat similar to Rite’s. That attitude— I hate it the most.”I raised an eyebrow but didn’t respond.“I’ve already met Rite,” I said simply, cutting straight to the point.Julian’s lips curled into a disdainful smirk. “And then?”“Rite’s account differs greatly from yours.” I recounted what Rite had told me: the reason she approached him, and the timeline of their acquai
When I woke up the next morning, a blank stretch of memory left me feeling disoriented. This had to be what they called a blackout.Hayes was still asleep next to me, his chest rising and falling in calm rhythm. I hesitated, then slipped quietly out of bed, washing my face as if the cool water could wash away the fuzzy fragments of last night. How did Hayes end up sleeping beside me? I couldn’t recall a single detail.I stepped out of the bathroom to find Genny already awake, perched on the bed, hair roughed, rubbing her eyes.“Eloise… I’ll never dare to drink with you again,” she murmured, her voice a mix of amusement and exasperation. “How… how is your alcohol tolerance so bad?”A jolt of panic ran through me. “W-what shameful thing did I do?”Genny waved her hand dismissively, her grin widening. “Nothing at all. You were… surprisingly well-behaved. No crying, no fussing. You just slept. But I couldn’t carry you at all. In the end… Hayes carried you back.”My heart stuttered. “What
I reckoned Julian had already devised a roundabout reason to ask me for money, which is why he had already agreed to the cooperation with Butcher Group. He was just planning to find a suitable opportunity to ask me, but I interrupted his plan before it even happened. He had long planned to make me
It’s not that I was being cynical, but the first thought that flashed through my mind when I heard Julian say he was going on a trip to relax was if he wanted to kill me?Marital infidelity, huge insurance policies, a dead child, and drugged milk; it was impossible not to think about all of it.Why
Julian didn’t leave immediately; instead, he stood at the door, eavesdropping on my conversation with Genny. As luck would have it, there was a mirror by the door. People outside couldn’t see it, but those inside could see the people outside.Genny was quick-witted; after realizing my intention, sh
For the next three days, I stayed in the hospital receiving fluids for observation.Julian went to the company during the day and came to keep me company in the evening. He even told me he had already made a travel plan, explaining what fun things to do and what good food to eat during our trip, pr
