Nathan’s POV

This night is fast turning out to be an interesting one, although I’m sure that the woman who is currently crying profusely and making a small scene in the restaurant doesn’t find it interesting in the least.

It’s hard not to feel a little sorry for her, especially because her husband is obviously such an asshole.

I eat my dinner slowly and continue to watch the drama unfold, and in the end, I’m shocked to see the woman’s husband leave with his mistress, instead of her.

People are watching the woman, who has sunk into a chair and is crying, with judgemental eyes, and it’s clear that they have misjudged the situation.

They clearly think that she’s the side piece, and the other woman who left with her husband is the wife, and with the way she acted so timidly, instead of putting her husband and his mistress in their place, it is no surprise that people think so.

Damn it. She’s completely different from what I expected. I didn’t expect her to be so weak.” I mutter to myself, finishing up with my meal and leaving a large tip for the waiter.

Then I get up to leave because I have a busy day ahead of me tomorrow. This business trip is taking a whole lot out of me, but I'm nearing my goal as the days pass, and for that, I’m thankful.

I’m driving back to my office after a late breakfast the following morning when my phone starts to ring insistently.

A quick glance at the phone screen shows that it’s my assistant, Rachel, who’s calling, and when I answer, she gives me a most unexpected news that fills me with instant dread.

“Boss, I’m afraid we have some problems. It concerns the lady we’re working on.”

“What about her?” I ask.

“I’m sorry, sir, but she’s just been involved in a car accident.” She tells me, effectively ruining my mood.

“What on earth? This can't be! Damn it! I haven’t obtained evidence yet. Nothing bad can happen to her. Goddamn it. Send me the location of the accident, so I can head there immediately.” I tell her.

She sends the location, and luckily, the scene of the accident isn’t too far from where I currently am, so I begin to head there immediately and arrive in no time.

From the skid marks on the ground and the marks her tires made, it is clear that the car eventually went down the somewhat steep incline in front of me.

By the time I finally arrive at the accident scene, two people, a man and a woman, are helping a dazed-looking Lucy. I let out a huge breath that I didn’t realize I had been holding, feeling immensely relieved.

“Has anyone called the cops yet?” I ask without preamble, checking out Lucy. She’s all in one piece, which is a very good thing.

Her car, on the other hand, is another story. It is almost completely destroyed, and the fact that she managed to come out of it with only a few bruises, at least from what I can see, is a miracle.

“Oh, thank goodness someone else saw the accident happen and came to help. That horrid person drove off after hitting her car. My husband and I were driving in the opposite lane when we saw her lose control of the vehicle, so we had to make a U-turn at the intersection and come in search of her. In our haste, though, we left our phones in our car, so no, we haven’t called the cops yet.” The woman, who looks to be in her early sixties, tells me.

“No, no cops, please. I can't deal with any of that right now. I’m okay. I just want to go home. Thank you all for coming to help. I’ll deal with all of this later.” Lucy says, her lower lip trembling as she stares at her totaled car.

“Oh, honey. There’s no need to cry, okay? You’re going to be just fine. If you want, my husband and I can take you to the hospital.”

“Oh, no. I can't impose on you any more than I already have. You should go to your grandson’s game. You said that you were already late for it, and I don’t want you to miss it on my account. Don’t worry, I’ll be just fine. I’ll order an Uber or something.” She tells the couple, and after they exchange a few more words with her, they leave, while I check out her car.

When I’m done, I find her watching me and crying silently. I’m at a loss as to what to say to her, but it doesn’t matter because she reaches into the car, picks up her phone, and taps on the screen.

Then to my utter surprise, she bursts into loud wracking sobs without warning. I reach out and pat her shoulder awkwardly, and at this point, she collapses against me, sobbing her heart out.

I hold her and cautiously rub her hair in a bid to comfort her, and we stay like that for several minutes, until I feel her begin to calm down, then I speak.

“Is there anyone I can call for you, ma’am?”

“No, no. There’s no one. It’s just me. Please, if it’s no trouble, could you please drop me off at home? I thought I would be able to order an Uber, but when I checked my phone a few minutes ago, the screen was broken, so I can't do that. Or if it’s a bother, can I use your phone to order a ride when we climb back up?” She asks me as she finally pulls away.

She avoids my gaze, and I can tell that she’s embarrassed.

“Of course, I can drop you off. It’s not a problem at all. I don’t have anywhere pressing to be.” I reply immediately and ask her if she has anything else she wants to take in her car.

Her gaze hardens for a split second, and then she gives me a brief nod and goes to rummage in the destroyed car for some documents and her handbag.

Then I support her and we make the climb up the incline to where I parked my car.

It is after I open the passenger side for her to get in and I’m going over to the driver’s side that I notice a few strands of her long, dark hair, which are entwined in my fingers.

That must have happened when I rubbed her hair as I comforted her. I expertly remove the strands from my fingers and tuck them safely away so they won't get lost. They will come in handy later on.

I can hear the excitement in her voice, and it rubs off on me instantly, but I try my best to keep calm.“Of course, what’s the news?” I ask.“She’s the one, boss. The lady is the one we’ve been looking for. The sample you sent matches the DNA we’re working with perfectly. Boss, this is huge! • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   An unreal discovery

Austin’s POVI find the fact that Lucy is nervous because I told her she can't leave yet a bit amusing, and if I’m being honest, a little bit offensive. While I’m no saint, I’d like to think that I don’t in any way look like a kidnapper, serial killer, or hitman as she accused me of being either. However, I also have to admit that she’s right to be cautious.I wouldn’t have told her about her family just yet, but since she was becoming increasingly agitated, and the doctor emphasized that she needed rest, not more stress, I had to tell her to reassure her that I don’t have any evil plans for her.Watching her face light up with different emotions, ranging from disbelief to hope, and then pure joy, is very satisfying and rewarding for me after all the work I’ve done to find her.But then she utters some words that cause me to do a double-take.“Are you my brother? I have a brother?!"The question catches me off guard. How on earth can she think that I’m her brother? That’s preposterous

He keeps telling me that I’m going to get the answers to all my questions once I meet with my family, so I have no choice but to wait and see. From the little I can decipher from what Nathan has told me about them, and even from the way Nathan looks and acts, I can tell that my family is wealthy, and this makes me even more nervous. What on earth are they going to think of me? I have next to nothing in my name, even though Austin is well-to-do.I was his secretary before we got married, after all, and secretaries don’t make a lot of money. Nathan’s POVIt’s been a long, fulfilling, and rewarding day. I'm dead tired, but also very happy. The ecstatic look on Mr. and Mrs. Lewis’s faces after I presented them with their long-lost daughter is the best thing that I have seen in a long while.I hum happily as I take a shower, and recline on my sofa to watch the news. Since I already ate a hearty dinner at the Lewis’s house, I'm not hungry. My phone rings while I'm watching the news, and I check the caller ID to see that it’s Diane who’s calling. She's the only one who calls me at this time of the night anyway.“Hello, Diane,” I say into the phone.“Hello, baby. How are you doing?” She asks me. Although I’m not comfortable with that term of endearment, I don’t say anything about it. I will find time to talk to her about how I see her as nothing more than a friend, and how she has to accept that, so she doesn’t get hurt in the long run. I can’t see her any other way, considering the fact that we grew up together, and while I'

That has to be the funniest joke of the century. As far as I'm concerned, we’re only fucking, and while I'm glad that she’s going to give me a baby, I sure as hell have no desire to be married to her, so what the fuck is she talking about?I just got out of a marriage, which ended because Amy was feeling spiteful and jealous of my wife, for crying out loud. The last thing I need is to jump headfirst into another marriage.“I’m not interested in getting married … not now, not anytime soon,” I tell her flippantly, and watch as her eyes become fiery orbs of anger.Nothing new there. Everything seems to annoy her nowadays. I don’t know if it’s the hormones from her pregnancy that’s causing it, or if she just gets easily irritated.Even my mom has been complaining about how rude Amy is to her. There’s no way I'm going

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   Reunion

Lucy’s POVMemories from the past flash in my head as I make the drive down to the airport to pick up my friend, Amanda. They're not good memories, but they remind me of how Amanda has always had my back since I can remember, and how she's the closest thing I have to a sister. The memories range from ones of Amanda and me, hiding away from the mean girls who were hell-bent on making our lives pure hell in the orphanage, to ones of her protecting me with her body, and taking most of the beating that was meant for me, because I was the smaller, weaker one.She had always been the stronger one of the two of us, even though back then, she was no more than a child herself, and it remained that way until we grew up and parted ways when it was time for us to go to college. The panicked, broken, and scared voice I heard on the phone this morning though, sounds nothing like the strong, self-assured voice I'm used to, and it breaks my heart to bits.Something is wrong with my friend. • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   Cold

COLD Nathan’s POVEven though I had no idea that my sister was being physically abused by her husband, because she kept this information from me and our parents, I can't stop inwardly berating myself for not somehow figuring it out, and coming to her aid sooner.Naturally, she’s devastated to learn about the loss of her baby, and while I feel sad for her, I’m also relieved. It's probably callous of me to feel that way, but at least, this way, there won't be anything linking her to her abuser, so the likelihood that she will go back to him after all this will be reduced. The police still haven’t found Steven, and neither have we heard from him, which is for the best. After spending exactly a week away from work - I took a few days off after I got back - I finally resume back to work.Everyone is glad to see me, as I am to see them. I'm especially eager to see Lucy. She hasn't been with us for long, but she's fast becoming my favorite person at work, so I stop by her desk to say hel

Lucy’s POVFrom the little I manage to piece together from office gossip, I find that Diane and Nathan are in some relationship of sorts.“If you love your job, it’s better you stay away from the boss. She makes sure that any attractive female who comes here to work, and whom she thinks the boss may be interested in gets fired. I overheard her accusing the boss of being interested in you the other day.” Ashley, a young intern who has been here a few months before me, warns me out of the blues, as Diane emerges from Nathan’s office and begins to walk out of the building, her head held high.“Huh? What are you talking about?”“I’m talking about Diane. Nobody here likes her. She looks down on everyone and everything and thinks she’s better than everyone else. We all believe that the boss can do better than her, and we know he doesn’t really like her that much, at least not in a romantic way. She’s just forcing herself on him.”Nathan hasn’t been to the office in two days now, and no one

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   Thoughts from the past

POV unknownIt’s a few minutes past midnight, which means that I should long have been asleep, yet sleep eludes me like a plague. The reason for my sudden insomnia is pure, unadulterated fear, coupled with anger. Yes, fear that the sins of my past are going to catch up with me long after I committed them. The anger is because the perfect plan that I hatched and perfected over the years is soon going to be messed up, big time, and all my patience over the years is going to be in vain. There’s no way on earth I'm going to let that happen, which means that I have to start thinking of the perfect way to get rid of the problem. This whole thing started just this afternoon. I was doing some late afternoon shopping when I heard the sound of twinkling laughter.Although my back was turned, which meant I couldn’t see who was laughing, I recognized that laughter immediately. It traumatized me enough when I was younger. When I turned to see who was laughing, it felt like I’d been slammed right

Luckily, help arrives fast, and soon, we’re on our way to the hospital, where she's admitted immediately. To my greatest relief, although my sister is unresponsive, she is still alive, and the paramedics begin to work on her immediately.I sit in the waiting room, feeling equal measures of rage and helplessness, and I call my parents to let them know what's going on. Finally, after some hours have passed, a doctor comes over to talk to me, his expression grim.“She’s suffered severe trauma from the beating she took. She’s still unconscious and will be for a while, but thankfully, we’ve managed to stabilize her. She’s lucky that you brought her in right on time. She’ll recover fully, but it will take time and patience. I hope that the person who did this to her will be found quickly, but even more importantly, I hope that she gets the help she nee

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   A dreadful night

Nathan’s POVI’ve never liked late-night calls, so when my phone suddenly starts to ring sometime after midnight, I bolt upright in bed immediately to check who’s calling. My heart sinks with dread when I see that it’s my older sister, Doris, but I quickly answer the call."Doris? What's up?"“Nathan, he’s started acting up again. Can you come get me, please? It’s really urgent.” She whispers fearfully.“You fucking bitch! I thought I told you not to call anyone? Who the fuck are you talking to on the phone?” I hear Doris ask angrily, after which there comes the sound of a small crash and a yelp of pain from Doris.Every trace of sleep vanishes from my eyes, and I get up immediately, rummage through my closet, pick up the first trousers I can find, and shove my legs into them.“Doris, what’s going on? Diane’s POVI close the distance between Nathan and me and lock eyes with him, giving him my best seductive look ... a look that never fails to bring men to their knees. Then I slowly and deliberately lift my hands and undo the top button of my shirt. Nathan’s eyes widen immediately. "Yeah, that's what I thought." I think to myself, feeling very fulfilled. Then, I smile and go a step further to undo the second button. Now, the tops of my full breasts are exposed, and I silently thank my stars that I wore my sexiest push-up bra with its matching panties before coming here.“What the hell do you think you're doing?” Nathan asks me.“Come on, babe, we’re both adults, and I know you want this as much as I do,” I reply in my sultriest voice, undoing the remaining buttons, so he can have an eyeful of just what he’s been missing.I’m unprepared for the next words that come out of his mouth.“Diane, have some self-respect and button your shirt. • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   An unwanted visitor

Diane’s POVI’ve always hated it whenever a new woman starts working in Nathan’s office, especially when it’s a beautiful woman. So you can imagine my surprise and disgust when I arrive at his office, and I see a beautiful, young woman, who seems to be around my age, and whom I’ve never seen before, working there. The woman even has the balls to talk to me … something almost all of Nathan’s staff are scared shitless to do, so to say I'm surprised is an understatement. When I pause and get a good look at her, my surprise turns to fear. Yes, fear …Not only is this woman beautiful, but she’s very clearly the type of woman that Nathan likes … the type of woman I’ve tried to be over the years just to get him to decide that I'm worth being with, but I can never keep up the façade for long. She has that 'good girl' look, which Nathan digs. Right now, she’s smiling at me as though we’re besties, or equals, but of course, I'm not having any of it. Just looking at her, I can tell she’s way ben
