JASON'S POV

The slam of the door echoed through the room, leaving behind a silence that was suffocating.

I couldn’t move. I couldn’t breathe. My whole body went cold. I just stood there, staring at the closed door, my mind refusing to process what had just happened.

Ava had been pregnant.

She was pregnant with our child… and I didn’t know. She lost our child because of me?

My legs felt weak, and I stumbled back, gripping the edge of the desk for support. My chest tightened, and a sharp pain spread through me like a knife was slicing through my ribs.

My breath came out in short, uneven gasps as the weight of the truth crushed me.

This couldn’t be real. Maybe I was dreaming. Maybe this was some kind of twisted nightmare. But it wasn’t.

My stomach twisted. I felt sick. I felt like the ground had been ripped from under me.

My baby… We had a baby. And now… I lost my baby before even knowing of his existence.

And I was here, accusing his mother of cheating on me with Ale

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 098

AVA'S POV I walked out of that room, my chest heaving, and my heart was heavy. The moment the door slammed behind me, it felt like I had left a piece of myself in there. I should have felt relief, but all I felt was emptiness. The hallway was quiet, but my mind was loud. Jason’s broken voice echoed in my head – his plea for me to stay. But it was too late. Too late for him to ask me not to go, too late for him to realize what he had lost. I didn’t want to go back to the party. I couldn’t. I wasn’t ready to see people laughing, drinking, and acting like the world wasn’t crashing down on me. My legs felt weak, my body trembling with exhaustion. The pain in my chest was unbearable. I needed air, I needed to get away. I turned away from the direction of the pool and started walking toward the garden. I had been here before so I knew my way around. With every step, my vision blurred, my legs dragging as if they weighed a thousand pounds. My breathing felt heavy like there wasn’t

AVA'S POV A dull ache spread through my head as I slowly drifted back to consciousness. My body felt heavy like I had been underwater for too long. My eyelids fluttered open, but my vision was still blurry. The first thing I noticed was that I wasn’t outside anymore. I was lying on something soft, leather? My fingers twitched against the surface, and I realized I was in a car. A car that was moving. Panic rushed through me, my heart pounding in my weak chest. My breathing turned shallow as my mind tried to piece together what was happening. Where was I? Who was driving? I tried to sit up, but my body protested, my muscles weak and my head spinning. Before I could say anything, a familiar voice spoke. “You’re awake.” I turned my head slightly, blinking against the bright lights of the dashboard. Alex’s face came into focus, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, his jaw clenched. “Alex?” My voice came out hoarse, barely a whisper. He glanced at me, his eyes

AVA'S POV The sharp voice sent a chill down my spine. I turned my head slowly, my body stiff with tension. Only to realize it was Laura. She stood a few feet away, dressed in the hospital gown, her long dark hair falling loosely over her shoulders. I didn't expect to see her here. But then it crossed my mind that she might have been brought here after the pool incident. Just the sight of her made my blood boil. The memory of my baby, my little angel, flashed through my mind. Her eyes locked onto mine, filled with pure hatred. I could feel the heat of her anger burning through the space between us as she stomped toward me, her hospital gown swaying with every step. Before I could react, she lifted her hand, aiming to slap me across the face. But she never made it. Alex’s fingers wrapped around her wrist mid-air, stopping the slap before it could land. His grip was strong, his eyes cold as he glared at her. Laura’s face twisted with rage as she yanked her hand free, turn

LAURA'S POV I could still feel the chill of the pool water clinging to my skin, even after being changed into a hospital gown. My body ached, and my head throbbed badly. I was relieved that nothing had happened to my child, not because I cared about it, but because I needed it to stay alive as my ticket to keep on fooling Jason. Jason had dived into the pool at Kevin's birthday party to save me. Me and not her. That alone was proof that I still held a special place in his heart. He believed my lie when I told him that Ava had pulled me into the water on purpose to make me lose my child. His concern, the way he ordered his driver to rush me to Royal Crest Hospital, and the way he called the hospital director and demanded that he take good care of me because I was pregnant were all proof of my victory. Or at least, that’s what I thought. The moment I arrived at the hospital, I was led into a VIP room, just like I deserved. The soft sheets, the large windows, the private bat

AVA'S POV The quiet sound of the air conditioner filled the room as I lay down on the freshly clean bed. The sharp smell of antiseptic was still in the air, but I didn’t mind. At least all traces of Laura had been removed from the room. After the director left, a doctor in a white coat walked in accompanied by a nurse. He was in his late fifties, with sharp eyes that carried years of experience. “Mrs. Ava Campbell?” he confirmed, glancing at me before looking at the chart. I nodded weakly, my body still feeling sluggish. He asked a few routine questions about my condition – headaches, dizziness, nausea. I answered the best I could, though I felt very tired like a heavy blanket was covering me. After writing down my responses, he prescribed some medication, instructed the nurse to fetch it, and started an IV drip. When the needle was about to be inserted, I instinctively pulled back my hand. Suddenly, Alex's hands covered my eyes gently. “Don't be afraid, the needle is a

AVA’S POV I woke up the next morning feeling… lighter. My body was still weak, but the heavy exhaustion from last night had faded a little. I blinked a few times, adjusting to the soft morning light coming in through the window. My head turned slightly, and I saw Sally sitting in the chair beside my bed. She had one leg crossed over the other, scrolling through her phone. The moment I stirred, she looked up. “You’re finally awake,” she said, relieved. “How do you feel now?” I stretched a little, only to wince as the IV needle pulled at my arm. “Better. Still tired, but not like last night.” “Good,” she said, standing up. “Because if you ever fall sick again, I swear, I’ll throw you out of this bed myself.” I let out a weak chuckle. “Noted.” Before I could ask her if she had come into my room last night, a nurse entered, pushing a small cart with trays of food. She set them down on the table beside me. “Breakfast is here,” she said with a polite smile. Sally’s eyes

AVA'S POV He stood at the doorway, his usual proud posture stiff, his wrinkled face filled with shock. His eyes, piercing and wise, slowly scanned me from head to toe as if trying to process what he was seeing. I felt the tight lump in my throat grow bigger. I had always tried to keep my emotions in check, and always tried to stay strong in front of people. But at that moment, seeing Grandpa, someone who had always treated me with so much kindness, all my walls broke down. Tears blurred my vision before I could even think to stop them. “G-Grandpa…” My voice cracked, weak, and trembling. His eyes softened immediately. He stepped forward, his cane tapping lightly against the floor. His driver followed behind him, carrying a small bag, but I barely noticed. Grandpa reached my bedside and sat down carefully. The moment he was close, I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I burst into tears. My shoulders shook as I sobbed uncontrollably. It wasn’t just sadness, it was everything.

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0105

LAURA'S POV Sitting in my pathetic hospital bed, I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. The dull white walls of this cheap room suffocated me. Sleeping here last night made my anger rise I didn’t belong here. I should be in the VIP ward, pampered and cared for. I should be the one everyone was visiting. But instead, I was rotting here alone. No one had come to see me. Not a single soul, not even Jason. But Ava? That wretched woman? She was basking in the attention. She had a lot of people by her side but I had no one. A knock on the door made me snap my head up. One of the nurses I had paid handsomely to keep an eye on Ava and report back to me slipped inside. Her gaze flickered with hesitation, but I didn’t care about her nerves. I wanted information. “Well?” I snapped, sitting up straighter. The nurse swallowed before speaking. “Mr. Campbell came to visit her, but she didn’t let him in.” I froze. “What?” I hissed, my hands gripping the shee

AVA'S POV I sat there frozen, the phone still pressed to my ear even after the call ended. Harold Campbell. I hadn’t heard that voice in years. Almost four now, I think. My heart was still pounding in my chest, like it didn’t know whether to be afraid or comforted. That deep voice brought back a wave of memories. Good ones. Soft ones. The kind that wraps around your heart like a warm scarf when the world feels cold. He used to call me “Sunshine,” and the moment I heard it again just minutes ago, I nearly cried. “Sunshine, is that really you?” he had said. And just like that, I replied, “Grandpa…” It slipped out so naturally. I didn’t even think. For a second, I was no longer the woman who’d been through hell and back – I was just Ava. The Ava who used to sit beside him in the garden, drinking sweet tea while he told me stories about the early days of Campbell Group. The Ava who always felt safe around him. “How are you, dear? I thought you’d forgotten all about me,” he

AVA'S POV The lights suddenly came on. I gasped, my heart jumping into my throat. My eyes squinted from the brightness, and for a second, everything blurred. Then I heard a voice. “Ma’am?” I blinked quickly and looked toward the hallway. A figure stepped into view – it was Rose. I let out a long, shaky breath and leaned harder against the wall, pressing a hand to my chest. “God, Rose… you scared me.” Her face was tight with concern. “I’m sorry. I thought I heard something downstairs, then I noticed your car in the driveway. I didn’t realize you were just getting home.” “Yeah,” I mumbled, still trying to calm down. “Just walked in.” Her eyes scanned my face. “You okay? You look like you’ve been through something.” “I’m fine,” I said quickly, brushing hair out of my face. “Just tired.” She studied me a second longer, not buying it. “Are you sure, ma'am?" “Yeah. I promise,” I said, forcing a small, fake smile. My voice was still shaky, but I hoped she wouldn’t push more. And

AVA'S POV And my breath caught in my throat. “Officer Mike?” His face was serious, but his eyes softened when he saw mine. “Hey,” he said, breathing hard. “You okay?” I nodded slowly, but my hands were still shaking. I couldn’t stop them, no matter how tightly I curled my fingers. He knelt beside me. “You’re bleeding. Let me see.” I held out my hands. He winced. “They pushed you hard, didn’t they?” I didn’t answer. My voice still hadn’t come back. My throat felt dry like I’d swallowed dust. My knees were throbbing, and I could feel the sting of open skin. “I chased them into the alley,” he said, opening my bag and handing me my phone. “Caught one. The other got away. But I got your stuff.” I looked down at my phone like it was a gift from heaven. My whole life was in there – messages, photos, important numbers I hadn’t written down anywhere else. “Thank you,” I whispered. He gave a small smile. “Don’t thank me yet. You still look like you’re about to pass out

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0197

AVA'S POV I stepped out of the building, pulling my coat tighter around me. The night air was colder than I expected. The city lights blinked in the distance, but everything around me felt… too still, too quiet, like the world was holding its breath. My chest felt tight. I couldn’t stop thinking about what Cindy said. About Alex. About how he just left, without saying anything. He didn't even inform me like he used to, no call, no message, not even a note. It was like I didn’t matter anymore. Like I’d been erased from his life overnight. That hurt more than I wanted to admit. I didn’t want to overthink it. But I couldn’t help it. My thoughts were loud, crashing into each other like waves. Where did he go? Why didn’t he tell me? Was he okay? I reached my car and slid into the driver’s seat, shutting the door slowly. The silence inside was thick. I didn’t even turn on the radio. I just sat there for a second, hands on the wheel, staring out at the road ahead. “Get it togeth

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0196

AVA'S POV I was expecting to see Julia, but no, it was another familiar sight – Cindy. And she was wearing one of Alex’s shirts. It took me a second to place it – an expensive gray linen shirt I had given him for his birthday a couple of years ago. Not that it mattered. It just caught my eye because I remembered picking it out myself. He liked it and wore it often. That’s all. I wasn’t surprised to see her here. Not really. She had already told me in the restaurant bathroom that she was staying with Alex for a while. I didn’t ask why. It wasn’t my business. Alex and I were close, yes. But I didn’t own him. He could live with whoever he wanted. Still, I guess part of me thought… she’d be gone by now. “Ava!” she said brightly, smiling like we were old friends. “What a surprise! Come on in.” I nodded and stepped inside. The apartment looked the same, clean and well-arranged. The only sound I heard was the clinking of dishes, which I assumed was Julia in the kitchen doing her n

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0195

AVA’S POV The sky was already dark when I pulled out of the parking lot of the company building. Streetlights glowed soft yellow, casting long shadows on the wet road ahead. It had rained earlier the roads still looked shiny and slick. The traffic was crawling as if the whole city had decided to move in slow motion tonight. I kept one hand on the wheel, the other resting on my lap, fingers tapping nervously. I didn't know why I was doing this. I should’ve just gone home but I told Sally I’d go. I told her I’d stop by Alex's penthouse and check on him. Now I was halfway across town, stuck in traffic second-guessing everything. Heading to Alex’s penthouse like some lost girl hoping for answers she wasn’t sure she wanted. The silence in the car wasn’t helping. No music, no podcast, nothing to distract my thoughts. Just me and this heavy feeling sitting in my chest. I glanced at my phone in the passenger seat. Still no messages, still no calls, nothing from Alex. His number sti

JASON’S POV I pulled out my phone, swallowed the knot in my throat, and called the board secretary Sharon. My voice shook a little. “Get everyone to the main conference room. Now. Tell them it’s urgent.” I didn’t wait for a reply. I ended the call and looked at my grandfather. He gave me a small nod like, finally. Then he turned and started walking like it was already decided. Evelyn followed us. She didn’t say a word, just walked beside me. The tension was thick. People in the hallways stepped aside when they saw him. Some bowed their heads. Some whispered. Some just stared like they couldn’t believe he was really here. By the time we reached the boardroom, a few directors were already arriving. Gray suits, stiff collars, worried eyes. Ben came in next, holding a folder tight under his arm. His jaw clenched when he saw my grandfather, but he gave a respectful nod. Then the others trickled in – old names, powerful voices. The ones who smiled in photos but sharpened their kni

JASON’S POV I drove like a man chasing time. My hands were tight on the steering wheel, and my heart wouldn’t stop pounding. I kept glancing at the clock on the dashboard, even though I knew I’d be early. My chest felt heavy. I couldn’t stop thinking about him – my grandfather. What he’d say. How he’d look at me. How disappointed he’d be. I kept hearing his voice in my head, not loud, but cold and steady. The kind of voice that didn’t need to shout to tear you apart. I’d only heard him raise it once in my life – and even then, it wasn’t a scream. It was worse. It was quiet, disappointed. I swallowed hard and tapped the steering wheel. I hated this. I hated how small I felt right now. I was supposed to be the CEO. I was supposed to be leading. Instead, I was driving to pick up the man who built the empire I was now watching burn. He was already there when I pulled up. Standing near the curb in a sharp gray coat. Hands behind his back. Luggage neatly beside him. His eyes locked

AVA’S POVSally’s voice cut through my thoughts as she looked up from her phone. “Hey… have you seen Alex lately?”I blinked, surprised by the question. “No… not for a while,” I said slowly. “It’s been some time actually.”The last time I heard from him was the day we finally agreed to be just friends. I haven’t heard from him since, which was surprising – it was so unlike Alex.Sally tilted her head, brows pinched. “Really? That’s strange. With everything going on – you’d think he’d reach out.”I gave a little shrug and tried not to let my voice crack. “Yeah… you’d think.”She frowned. “I mean, it’s all over the internet. The news, Twitter… everything. I thought he’d at least call or something.”I nodded but stayed quiet. The truth was, I had been thinking the same thing. Every day. I kept wondering if Alex was purposely staying away. Was it because of what I said the last time we talked? That I wasn’t ready for a relationship? But we had cleared the air. We hugged, and we agreed to
