Lucas POV

Katherine squeezed my hand before we got out of my car.

We are in front of the Smith Hotel for our meeting with Greg Combs.

“Are you nervous?” I asked, but she only shook her head.

“No, that was a reminder for you to be on your best behavior. You are not the “hulk”. You are Lucas Sanders, so no to punching.” She reminded me in a stern voice that amused me.

I shook my head as a grin found its way to my lips.

Even when we were younger, Katherine has always been the voice in my head. Her snide comments hit home. When we parted, a huge part of me felt the emptiness of her absence.

Now, my cup is being refilled every day.

The grin did not satisfy Katherine, staring meaningfully at me with arched brows.

My strict wife needed my concurrence, so I obliged her.

“Of course. I am over my resentment of Greg. I realized that I don’t hate him per se. I hated what he represented.”

Katherine’s skeptical look spurred me to continue.

“Greg represented my regret. I made wrong choices,

  • Goodbye Jerk, Hello Mr. Perfect?   Chapter 196. Not Spared

Veronica POVThere was a brewing tension between me and Oliver when we walked out of Lucas Sanders’ office. Every step I take burns through the soles of my feet, acutely aware of the rigidity of the man walking beside me. From the corner of my eye, I saw Oliver walking alongside me. His body was coiled and taut, cluing me in as to inner turmoil raging inside him. My breath hitched at the fear that blossomed instantaneously in my chest. The silence between us added to the strangeness of the feeling, making the tension between us thicker with each step. When we neared the elevator area, I saw several employees waiting in line. Before I could join them, Oliver disregarded decorum when without warning, he grabbed my hand to drag me to the emergency stairs. I gasped in surprise, aware that his actions caused a stir among our co-workers. This is not what I had expected. Oliver’s actions caught me by surprise. My mind rebelled, my body, too, as I tried to extricate myself from his

Lucas POVAfter our lunch with Greg Combs, Katherine requested to come home to check on Erin with the excuse of missing our daughter, but I knew better. Katherine wanted to assure herself that Erin was safe. The trauma of almost losing her - first to her sickness, and second to the kidnapping - made her extra cautious. I understood her concern and indulged her. We got home to Erin’s enthusiastic welcome, making the creases on Kahtherine’s forehead ease up. She was relieved that her daughter was safe, but of course, being Katherine, she wouldn’t want it to become obvious. She hid the relief in one of her sermons. “Sara said you did not take your afternoon nap,” Katherine commented, bursting the happiness on Erin’s face. She pouted at the mention of the nap that she ditched. Erin pursed her lips, trying to act cute. It might have worked with me especially when she hung her head so innocently like that. Katherine was on another level altogether. While she worries about our child’

Lucas POVAfter Erin’s revelations, I called Dan to arrange a meeting with Greg Combs. If he was surprised by this recent turn of events, he did not say anything.Dan had been with me since I began my business. He may not be privy to my personal feelings and thoughts on certain issues because we never discussed them. However, I am sure that he had a fairly good idea of what was going on inside my head.He knew I hated Combs. The resentment goes deep because he was there for my family when I wasn’t.But as a little child, my four-year-old daughter made me see how petty and vengeful I had been for someone who messed up but was valiantly trying to rectify his mistakes.I should have been forgiving, not maligning. When I hung up the phone, I went back to Erin’s room to find her and her mother talking in hushed voices. They were lying by the bed, on their sides, facing each other.

Lucas POV"Hmp!" Katherine squinted angrily at me when I asked where she had placed Erin's brush. Our daughter's hair clung to her face, making her look untidy. She was in her hospital bed, playing with her favorite dolls.I strode to Erin’s bag and rummaged for the brush myself because Katherine was obstinate, refusing to move a muscle. She sat on the couch, doing her best to ignore me.Exasperation filled me.I turned to Erin and tried focusing on her instead of the way my wife was treating me.“Erin,” I called.

  • Goodbye Jerk, Hello Mr. Perfect?   Chapter 191. I Love You

Katherine POVI was hesitant when I picked up my office phone and heard Greg's voice on the caller's end. After our last meeting, which Lucas found out about, I did not hear any news or get word from Greg again. Greg had been silent until now. That is why I was wary of taking his call, but when he mentioned Erin, my world stopped momentarily.Erin was in school. How did it happen that she was in St. Martin Hospital? Why was Greg, of all people, informed me about her condition when it should have been her daycare?Something is up, and I have to get to the bottom of this. But first things first.Greg asked someone to explain my daughter's condition. She introduced herself as a nurse at St. Martin Hospital. Her statement collaborated with Greg's claim, making me believe him. Two things registered in my brain at once. Greg was with Erin, and Erin was in the emergency room of the St. Martin Hospital. After getting all the pertinent details, I wasted no time after hanging up.I grabbed
