Chapter 1865

Author: Cozy Season
"Sir, shouldn't we check on them?" Barton probed.

He knew Andrew was worried about Debra's safety. Clubs weren't exactly secure.

Andrew remained unfazed. "Keep going."

The executives hurried through their reports, sensing the shift in mood.

Time ticked by.

...

At Glamor Club, Erica, already half-drunk, glanced at her phone.

An hour had passed since they arrived, but Andrew still hadn't shown up.

He always doted on Debra. It was hard to believe he would let her party like this without checking in.

'Something is off.' Erica thought, about to dig deeper when a bodyguard rushed in.

He scanned the crowd for her. "Miss Mathis, where are you?"

He pushed through the dancers and found her. Erica frowned. "It's after hours. What's up?"

The bodyguard's face was grim. "There's an emergency at the company. They're holding an urgent meeting. You need to come."

"What? Everything was fine when I left today," Erica grumbled.

Debra saw her chagrin and asked, "What's wrong?"

Marion rode his bike two kilometers to the breakfast spot Debra loved. She was crazy for their pizza, so he went every morning, rain or shine. Lillian and Solomon tailed him. Marion adjusted his bike's mirror. It caught their sneaky shadows. He smirked, tilted the mirror, and let the sun's glare hit their eyes. In a flash, he vanished around a corner."Where's my dad?" Lillian blinked.Solomon didn't speak, calculating the light's angle and distance."This way!" He pulled her left. "I've never seen any kingpin ride a bike for breakfast," Lillian said, running. "Maybe Juan got it wrong. He is not that big a deal. Those files are probably fake." Mob bosses on TV had armies of goons, rolled in fancy cars, and had bodyguards follow them. Her dad? Just a guy with more cash than most.At the shop, the owner had Marion's order ready. "Getting breakfast for your wife again? Such a loving husband!" the owner's wife said, handing it over.Marion smiled, took it, and biked back.B

"Lillian can go to him, but you're mine," Marion said, kissing Debra's forehead. "You know I tried."Emotions didn't come easy to him. When Lillian was born, he didn't feel the joy others did. He cared about Debra. Only with her did he feel human, not a machine. As a kid, after his diagnosis of emotional detachment, his parents pitied him more. But he couldn't feel it.Then he met Debra. She was tiny, a cute little thing when he visited the Frazier Mansion with his parents. That was his first taste of life's wonder.Years later, at an auction, he saw her again. He didn't recognize her until Randy pointed it out.Maybe it was curiosity. He was attracted to her instantly. As he got closer, he fell for her.His love wasn't like others'. He wasn't sure it was love, but Debra was his air.Like a drowning man, he needed her.In the dark, her eyes sparkled like they did when she was younger. "We'll keep going, no matter what. I'm always here," she muttered. They had been through th

Marion stayed quiet, aware of the situation. He wasn't going to let Solomon have her easily. There would be tests to pass.Half an hour later, Lillian followed Juan into the Nichols Mansion. The house hadn't changed much over the years. The maids had the guest rooms ready. She slipped into Juan's study instead of heading to her room.As he popped a hangover pill, she spilled her plan. "Godfather, I want to hear...""Your dad's epic stories?" he said, knowing the answer. She nodded eagerly, and he rubbed his temples. His head was pounding from the booze. He pointed to a bookshelf. "The file is on the third shelf. The third from the left. Read it if you want."He downed a glass of water and added, "I've got a meeting tomorrow. Put it back when you're done."He stood up, glanced at Solomon at the door, and left without another word."Solomon, get in here," Lillian exclaimed, finding the folder. It looked yellowed, worn by time. An old file was lying inside. She flipped to th

"What kind of rumors?" Lillian asked."He ran the show overseas. The police and the crooks all gave him respect. That was before he met your mom," Jordan replied. "To win her heart, he scrubbed his dark past clean. But his legend of wiping out the docks still floats around. Your mom never knew how ruthless he was. He set a good example for all men."Lillian pondered. "I've never seen him throw a punch.""Seamar City's calm now. He has got no chance, Jordan said, ruffling her hair. "Want the real scoop? Ask Juan.""Why him?" Lillian frowned."These two were rivals in love. I bet he did enough investigations."Lillian's eyes lit up, and she headed toward Juan, who was drinking nearby.Solomon grabbed her. "What are you up to again?""I want my dad's stories." She swatted his hand. "Don't you?"Of course, he wanted that. He had idolized Marion forever, but he was born 20 years too late, missing Marion's overseas glory days.Juan checked his watch, stubbed out his cigarette, and

Drake didn't take Robert's words seriously, but soon, people in the other teams started killing each other. He finally saw the gravity of the situation. They were sworn brothers, but survival meant fighting for the top spot.Marion shone, his brains and brawn far beyond that of the slum roots. Sometimes, Drake wondered about his past.Marion didn't seem like a street kid. He knew high-society manners and played their games better than the slickest crooks. In six months, he became Shawn's top pick for heir. Lillian asked curiously, "What happened next?"Drake blew a smoke ring and winced. "He screwed over Robert and me."Lillian's eyes widened. "How?""Ask your dad," Drake said, leaning back.Even after 20 years, he couldn't forgive Marion for that. The betrayal still cut.If Marion had just been just another rival, they wouldn't have held the grudge. But he was their sworn brother.Theda, flushed from drinking, slumped into Robert's arms. "In drinks, they can't beat me."Ro

Robert shrugged.People like them didn't care about holidays.Cathryn waited, but Marion stood there like a wall, silent."I... I've got a class. Gotta go," she stammered, taking off.Drake asked, "You into her?""Nope," Marion said."Why took her gift then?" Drake pressed."It's yours now." Marion tossed the chocolates to him, heading to the dorm.Drake didn't read the foreign text, but the fancy package said it all."What does Miss Bernard like about you?" he muttered. "You should ditch this and be a gigolo. You'd make bank."He finished the entire bar in a minute.Robert frowned. "Too many sweets give you cavities.""Never heard of it." Drake shrugged. He had never had a cavity. He only knew if Cathryn sent Marion chocolates daily, he'd be set.Marion lay down on his bed and started reading.Lights went out, and all went quiet. He dreamt of the car crash again. The dark earth turned bloody. His eyes snapped open, and Caleb's words echoed in his mind. "If you can't fi
