Chapter 25

Rosalie, not much older than her, was alluring. After divorcing his first wife, Ralph married Rosalie, who was seen as a mistress by the Frazier family.

Ralph adored Rosalie, so the others had to tolerate her.

Rosalie always opposed Debra.

In her last life, Debra tolerated Rosalie for Ralph's sake. But when the Frazier family went broke, Rosalie kicked Ralph out and took all his assets.

"Rosalie's aren't pleasant, but this is our family banquet. You've been married for a month, and Juan should have come," said a distant member of the family.

"Yeah, should we call him? We can wait a bit more," others echoed.

Debra knew their intentions.

They wanted to use this banquet to cozy up to Juan for business.

Rosalie watched the show.

Drake couldn't resist messing with Debra."No point living," he said, playing it up. "Might as well end it.""There's so much out there," she pleaded. "You're only 18. A bright future is still ahead.""No future," he said, still sitting on the edge. "You don't know what I've been through. Someone like me? I'm too rotten to live.""Nothing's set in stone," she said, frantic. "If you're hurting, talk to me. You don't have to do this. Yesterday, I was kinda harsh. I'm sorry. Just come down. It's dangerous."The wind roared. One slip, and he'd fall for real.Drake shifted, dangling his legs off the edge."Chill," she said, even more anxious. "I don't even know why I'm up here, but I studied psychology for a year. I can help. This won't solve anything. Think of your parents or someone you care about. Or that show you love, still waiting for the finale. New stuff happens every day. You can find something worth sticking around for. If you're lonely, I'll hang with you.""Hang with me?

Drake's casual flex drew a crowd.Everyone wondered if the school was recruiting ballers now."Man, you're good," one yelped."Name your dinner. I'm paying," another echoed. They rushed him, sweaty and hyped, piling on like he'd won a championship. Drake dodged, but they were relentless, all bro-hugs and cheers.By nine p.m., he was wiped. These kids had endless energy, alive in a way he'd forgotten. He crashed in the dorm, expecting to wake up from the dream. But when he opened his eyes, he was still at school. His roommates were snoring like chainsaws. It was eight a.m., but nobody stirred.'No classes?' he wondered. Then he started to think about his own problem. He seriously doubted that he had inhaled too much of the incense and had sunk into a deep coma in the real world.Panic crept in. He bolted from the dorm without washing up. He considered jumping off the building or slitting his wrist. The pain might snap him up from the dream. He sprinted to the tallest building

Debra flinched at his rasp.Drake paused, wondering if he had gone too far. Then he nodded, believing so. This wasn't the full-fledged Debra he knew. It was just another regular girl.He frowned, unsure how to communicate with normal girls. Her scared look rattled him even more."Yo, that's not how you chase a girl," a guy said, slinging an arm around Drake."Debra's a catch, but you're coming on way too strong," another added. They acted like they were old friends with Drake, but he wasn't having it."Hands off," he said coldly. In the real world, people would've backed off or even begged forgiveness, but these two guys laughed it off, slapping his shoulders."No need to play shy. We're all guys," one of them said. "If you're into her, we'll help out. Let's hit the court later. My treat at the cafeteria tonight."Drake had zero interest in their frat-boy energy. In the two minutes he wasted on them, Debra vanished. His mood soured. He shook off their hands, ready to ditch,

Debra didn't snap at his bluntness. She just blinked. "How do you know my name?"Her suspicious stare pinned him. He scrambled, then grinned, "Take a guess."She frowned. "Weirdo."He propped his chin, watching her huff."Tough luck. You're stuck with a weirdo as your deskmate.""Andrew says don't talk to strangers who hit on you. Keep this up, and I'm telling the teacher.""Come on. Got a scarier threat?""What do you mean?""Means I'm not scared of the teacher."Debra was frustrated, unable to formulate a response. Drake just enjoyed watching her squirm. "If you're not afraid of the teacher, I'll tell Andrew about it. He'll deal with you.""You mean the sickly guy from the Potter family?""Don't call him that!" Debra yelled, shooting up.The room went silent. All eyes turned to them.Drake cleared his throat and tugged at her sleeve. "Alright, he is not. Sit.""You should apologize to him.""To someone like him?"Debra's eyes brimmed with tears, and he quickly said,

Drake trailed Debra into the lecture hall. The students there shot him odd looks, puzzled by his creepy behavior. The guys muttered, "Creep."Drake didn't care. His eyes were glued to Debra. She handed in her form at the registration desk and left."Hey, your form?" a volunteer asked, eyeing Drake suspiciously. This guy had been sticking closely behind a beautiful girl. Sure, there were plenty of handsome guys and gorgeous girls among the freshmen every year, but this was a bit much.Drake frowned. "What form?"He had forgotten the whole freshman checklist."You from another school?" the volunteer asked, arms crossed. "Class? Admission letter?""This?" Drake pulled a letter from his bag.The volunteer checked it. "Drake Sampson, overseas transfer?"Drake was done wasting time. He needed to find Debra."You done?" he asked, impatient."Yeah. Well, no form needed for transfers," the volunteer replied, handing it back.Drake turned to go, but the volunteer added, "You study

By the time Drake snapped out of it, her friend was pulling Debra away, whispering, "That guy has been staring at you. Is he nuts?""Who are you calling nuts?" Drake snapped. The girl flinched, thrown by his boldness. In their world, rich kids weren't exactly stable."Sorry, she didn't mean you," Debra said, stepping in.Her eyes met his, but they were timid.Drake raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Anyone else staring at you then?"He stepped closer, looming in front of her. Debra shut her eyes, scared.Drake blinked, surprised she was so easy to rattle."Know why?" he smirked. She shook her head, her eyes wide."Because..." He leaned in, almost nose-to-nose.She fidgeted, stepping back. "I don't wanna know."She grabbed her friend and bolted.Drake smirked at her panic. In the dream, she was such a chicken. He wandered aimlessly, sticking near the girls' dorms. When Debra emerged alone, his eyes locked on her.She spotted him and sped up, like he was a monster."Scared of me?" h
