Leah's POV

I jolted awake, my eyes snapping open to a world that spun like a butcher's blade. My forehead pressed hard against the wall, the cold stone biting into my skin, grounding me as nausea clawed up my throat. Sweat slicked my scarred flesh - marks from a past I couldn't outrun, etched deep from the slave market's chains. The air hung heavy, thick with the scent of metal and earth, and I sucked in a ragged breath, trying to steady the hammering in my chest.

"Mrs. Winters, are you okay?" Ryan's voice cut through the haze, sharp with worry, slithering up behind me like a shadow I couldn't shake.

I waved a hand, the motion weak and trembling, a pitiful dismissal. "I'm fine," I rasped, the lie tasting bitter on my tongue. "Just a little dizzy. I need to find a place to rest. I need water." My voice cracked, raw and reluctant, mirroring the shiver I'd once faked for Lycidas, the Lycan Prince who'd stripped me bare with his gaze.

A flurry of exclamation

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 284

Leah's POVThe air in the basement hit me hard - hick with the stink of chemicals, sharp and sour, and the low, throbbing hum of machines that buzzed through my bones. Dim light bled from a flickering bulb, spilling shadows that twisted the equipment into hulking, jagged shapes, like beasts crouched and waiting. At the far end, Leo hunched over his workbench, all sharp angles and focus, his hands moving precise and ruthless over whatever experiment he was tearing apart. Beside him, Gean's holographic projection shimmered, a ghost stitched from light and memory, his edges fraying in the gloom. My gut twisted seeing him - Leo's crutch, his echo of a brother we'd lost, flickering there like a wound he wouldn't let scab over.I stepped closer, my boots scuffing the concrete, and Gean's head snapped toward me first. His hologram flickered harder, and he let out a cough - deliberate, dry, a sound that scraped the silence and bounced off the walls. Leo's head jerked up

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 283

Leah's POVRyan stood beside me, his shadow stretching long and dark across the ground, his presence a quiet menace I couldn't shake."We're not sure if these resurrected beasts can remember their old lives," he said, his voice low, cutting through the wind like a dulled knife. "None of us can talk to those two steppenwolves. No way to know if they're still the ancient creatures that once roamed this damned continent."I didn't answer right away, just let his words sink into me, heavy as wet earth. My mind churned, a mess of curiosity and something sharper - something that gnawed at my gut. Then let me find out, I thought, the idea blooming like a bruise. If anyone could peel back the truth from those wolves, it'd be me. I'd survived worse than resurrected ghosts.I shifted my weight, my boots scuffing the stone path, and glanced at him. "I'm sorry about your wife," I said, the words tasting like ash on my tongue. "Her situation, I mean."Ryan shoo

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 281

Leah's POVThe moon hung heavy above me, a swollen, unblinking eye that tracked my every step as I climbed out of the car, its cold light clawing at the edges of my vision. Genus X headquarters rose before me like a beast of glass and steel, all sharp angles and secrets, its fifth investment in my grip - a human gamble to drag prehistoric ghosts back into the world. I smoothed my coat, the fabric hissing against my skin, and strode toward the entrance, my boots clicking on the pavement like the ticking of a clock I couldn't outrun. The air reeked of rain that wouldn't fall, thick and restless, and I felt it settle into my bones, a weight I'd carried too long.My phone buzzed in my pocket, a sharp, insistent sting, and I yanked it out. Finn's name glared up at me, and I pressed the answer button with a flick of my thumb, bracing for the venom I knew was coming."You fucking ruthless cold-hearted bitch," he snarled, his voice a blade slicing through the static, al

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 280

Finn's POVJalin didn't wait. His hands grabbed me, rough and sudden, twisting me around and slamming me against the wall. My breath hitched as he yanked my pants down, the cold air biting my skin before his heat replaced it. I smirked against the grimy concrete, satisfaction curling in my gut. I know nothing about Lycans, huh? But I know you, Jalin, like the back of my fucking hand. Lycidas had been back at Court, keeping Lucian on a leash, and Jalin hadn't had an outlet in months. He was a coward with women, useless and soft, but with me? With me, he could let it all out.He shoved into me, hard and graceless, his teeth sinking into my shoulder like he wanted to tear me apart. I gasped, arching back into him, giving him what he craved - frenzy, hunger, the kind of raw need that matched Lycidas at his worst. Our bodies clashed, a tangle of sweat and muscle, and I let myself moan, loud and broken, playing the part even as I savored the control. When he entered m

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 279

Finn's POVJalin's voice cut back in, sharp and impatient. "Listen, you fucking slut, I don't have time for your bullshit. What do you want?"I kept my smile, savoring the edge in his tone. "Just catching up, Sir. I've been thinking about you, about the time that you stepped on me in the basement and...""Cut the crap," he growled. "You've got ten seconds before I hang up.""Fine," I sighed, feigning boredom. "I've got a proposition for you. Something big.""Big?" He sounded skeptical, but I had his attention. "What could a mutt like you offer me?""Power," I said, letting the word hang heavy. "More than you've ever dreamed of."Silence again. I could picture him, all towering arrogance, his eyes narrowing as he weighed my words. Jalin was a greedy bastard - he always wanted more."Keep talking," he said at last."Not over the phone," I replied, voice smooth as velvet. "This needs a private chat. Old warehouse by the doc
