Chapter 5

Author: Cozy Ivory
Caleb met Olivia's reddened eyes. The disappointment in her eyes hit him hard. He didn't know why, but he suddenly found it hard to breathe.

Just then, they heard an argument break out outside the nearby restroom.

"What are you doing? Don't touch me!"

Caleb's expression shifted instantly. Whatever guilt he had felt toward Olivia moments ago vanished. He instinctively turned toward the dim corner of the hallway.

A drunken man in shabby clothes had Shannon cornered, his behavior crude and lecherous.

Shannon was deathly pale with fear. She kept cowering, trying to get away from him.

"Shannon!"

Caleb completely forgot about Olivia standing behind him. He rushed over, stepped in front of Shannon, and shoved the drunken man away.

Caleb snapped coldly. "Get lost!"

The drunken man staggered backward. The alcohol only fueled his anger, and he instantly lashed out. "Damn you! How dare you ruin things for me?"

In the chaos, he suddenly reached behind him and pulled out a small knife.

The bystanders scrambled away in alarm, screaming. The situation descended into chaos.

Olivia didn't want to be part of this nonsense. All she wanted to do was leave.

She had barely taken a few steps when the drunken man lunged at Shannon with the knife.

Just then, Gerald and Vivian dashed into the room, screaming, "Shannon!"

Caleb immediately pulled Shannon into his arms.

Just as the drunken man was about to stab Caleb, Olivia suddenly felt someone shove her hard from behind.

She lost her balance and stumbled forward. She looked back and realized that the ones who had pushed her were none other than Gerald and Vivian.

By then, the drunken man was already right in front of her, and the knife plunged deep into her chest.

Time seemed to stop at that moment.

Olivia froze on the spot. She slowly lowered her gaze and saw the knife handle protruding from her chest, blood blooming across her clothes.

Caleb's expression shifted instantly when he saw Olivia standing right in front of him.

The moment Olivia crumpled, he instinctively let Shannon go and dropped to his knees, catching Olivia in his arms before she hit the ground. Warm, sticky blood instantly spread onto his palms, the heat making his fingertips numb.

"Olivia! Olivia!"

Panicked and at a loss for what to do, Caleb pressed his hand against her wound, but the bleeding wouldn't stop.

He turned toward the panicked crowd and yelled, "Help! Call an ambulance! Now!"

Then he looked down and cupped Olivia's pale face in his hands, repeating over and over again, "Don't close your eyes. Do you hear me? Olivia, don't close your eyes! Look at me! Just hang in there. The doctor will be here soon. You'll be fine…"

The panic and anxiety felt so familiar. It was the same look he wore whenever he was worried that something might happen to Olivia.

Olivia lay in his arms. Even breathing hurt, and her vision gradually began to blur.

Memories of their early days as newlyweds came flooding back to her.

She got hurt once, and he held her in his arms just like this, begging her not to close her eyes. He was so terrified that he started crying.

Back then, she truly believed she was the one he loved most.

Now, he was holding her in his arms again, looking just as worried as he had back then. But this time, she couldn't bring herself to believe it anymore.

The car was too close and moving too fast. There was no time for Olivia to get out of the way."Olivia!" Trevor's eyes widened. Without a second thought, he stepped in front of her, shielding her with his body. At the very last moment, another engine roared to life. A black car rammed into the side of Shannon's car. It was Caleb's car.A deafening crash rang out as the impact sent Shannon's car off course. Both cars had been traveling at high speed, causing Caleb and Shannon to lose control of their vehicles. The two cars ended up crashing across the middle of the road. The cars were badly crumpled, their windows shattered. Thick smoke billowed into the air. Before anyone could even process what had happened, a large truck appeared in the distance. Unable to stop in time, it came barreling toward the two cars in the middle of the road. As the truck collided with the cars, flames erupted, and smoke and dust filled the air. Not far away, Gerald and Vivian stood there, watch

Vivian became agitated. "You're the reason all this happened! Olivia, you set us up! How did we end up with a daughter like you? You schemed against us! We're your parents! If you don't pay us back, don't blame us for what happens next!""Is that so?" Olivia sneered. "Well, what are you going to do about it? Did I force you to hand over the three billion dollars? Why did you invest everything you had in Jebb Corporation?"You did all that so you could help Shannon get together with Caleb! You wanted your precious daughter to marry well. You were hoping to use Jebb Corporation's resources to get ahead overnight!"Now that your gamble didn't pay off and you ended up losing everything, you want to blame it on me?"Olivia stared at Gerald and Vivian, who had gone deathly pale. Her voice turned even colder. "At the end of the day, you brought this on yourselves. It's got nothing to do with me. If you keep harassing me, I'll call the cops on you."Gerald and Vivian exchanged glances

The anger in Caleb's eyes faded, and all that was left was emptiness and disbelief. "Olivia, you're with another guy now? Then what am I to you now? What did our relationship even mean to you?""It was a mistake." The moment Olivia said that, Caleb felt all his strength leave his body, and he staggered backward. Olivia swept her gaze over Caleb before looking away. Without looking back at him, she instinctively reached for Trevor's hand. "Let's go.""Alright." Trevor wrapped his arm around her shoulders and turned to leave. Caleb was the only one left standing there, watching Olivia and Trevor disappear into the distance. The night breeze swept through the lavender fields, making a mess of his dark hair and leaving him chilled to the bone. He finally realized that Olivia really didn't love him anymore.Or perhaps she hadn't loved him for a long time. Caleb was the only one stuck in the past, unwilling to accept the truth and living in denial.…Trevor drove steadily al

Olivia and Trevor turned to look at Caleb at the same time. No emotion flickered in her eyes. She looked at him as if he were just a stranger. Caleb immediately strode toward them. Seeing her in someone else's arms was driving him crazy. His voice came out hoarse and strained. "Olivia, come with me."He fixed his gaze on her. "I've thought it over. I think… I've fallen for you. Let's get married again. We'll start over. We can live together like a normal married couple and enjoy life together. What do you think?"As soon as those words left his mouth, a faint, mocking smile tugged at the corners of Olivia's lips. "I'm sorry, Mr. Jebb. Your love means nothing to me."Olivia watched his face grow paler, yet she remained unfazed. Instead, she seemed almost delighted. "I'll be honest. The worse off you are, the happier I am."Caleb jolted, as if something had struck him deep in the chest, making it hard for him to breathe. He looked at Olivia in disbelief, his eyes bloodshot.

Caleb couldn't take it anymore and turned to leave. "Where are you going?" Shannon anxiously grabbed his arm to stop him, but he shook her off, causing her to fall to the floor. "Ah!" Shannon yelped in pain, tears instantly welling in her eyes. But Caleb didn't even seem to notice as he swiftly left his office. He pulled out his phone and opened his contacts. Olivia's name seemed to jump out at him from the screen. He quickly gave her a call. A cold, automated voice came through the phone. "The number you have dialed is currently busy and cannot be reached."After a few beeps, the call disconnected.Caleb froze for a moment before sending her a message. Then he immediately realized that he had been blocked. Olivia had cut him off without hesitation, leaving him no way to get through to her. Caleb's heart sank. The moment their lips touched, Caleb's eyes turned red. His chest heaved as he asked in a low voice, "Why do you get to just walk away? Why do you get to leave just like that? Why did you leave me here to suffer alone? Come back… "Come back. Do you hear me? Keep fighting with me. I want you to keep arguing with me. Just stay with me…""You can't leave. Not without my permission…" Caleb muttered over and over again, his hot breath spilling over the woman's lips. Caleb tightened his arms around her, as if he wanted to make sure she could never escape him. There was something obsessive, almost deranged about it."Olivia… Come back to me…"The woman in his arms clearly froze when she heard that name, her voice full of disbelief. "Caleb, look at me. Do you even know who I am?"Caleb suddenly snapped back to reality. That wasn't Olivia's voice. The drunken haze in his mind began to clear. The moment his vision finally focused, he realized the woman standing in front of him wasn
