Chapter 6

Author: Cozy Ivory
When Olivia opened her eyes again, she found herself lying in the hospital bed, her wound throbbing faintly.

"You're awake." Caleb's voice rang out from beside her. His eyes were bloodshot, with dark circles under them. He looked exhausted.

"Does it hurt?" With that, he reached out to feel her forehead, but she instinctively backed away.

Caleb hesitated before saying softly, "Get some rest. I'll call the doctor."

She watched him walk away in silence.

Next to her, the nurse spoke up. "When they brought you to the hospital, Mr. Jebb was so worried that he brought in the best doctors in all of Joltbury.

"His hands were even shaking when he signed the paperwork. While you were unconscious for the past two days, he stayed by your side the entire time. He even cleaned you up and changed your bandages himself. You guys must really love each other."

Olivia lowered her gaze.

Loved each other?

If they really loved each other, they wouldn't have ended up this way.

Sometimes, Olivia found Caleb rather strange. Whenever they were at each other's throats, he never held himself back, acting as if he wanted to be the one to kill her.

But whenever something actually happened to her, he looked more worried than anyone else.

It had happened a year ago, and now it was happening again.

But Olivia wasn't the same person she had been a year ago.

Over the next two days, Caleb never left her side. She tried to make him leave, but he pretended not to hear her. She deliberately smashed the cup, but he grabbed her hand and asked if she was hurt.

As Caleb wiped Olivia's body, she struggled and told him to get out of her room, but he only held her tighter.

"You can be mad at me all you like. I don't care if you tear this entire room apart. But if you aggravate your wound, it's only going to hurt more. Don't be so stubborn, Livvy."

Olivia froze.

Livvy.

She hadn't heard Caleb call her that in years.

While Olivia was distracted, Caleb changed her bandages and left the hospital room.

She didn't care where he had gone off to. She pulled out her phone and started responding to messages from her team. She had planned to make further improvements to the drug efficacy report and the proposal to bring the new drug to the market.

But not long after, Caleb walked into the hospital room and took the phone from her, saying gently, "You need to rest. You can always work later."

Olivia scowled. "Give it back to me."

"You need to rest," Caleb repeated, leaving no room for discussion.

Olivia was exhausted. Since it was getting late, she couldn't be bothered to fight with him anymore and lay on the bed.

Caleb finally gave her phone back to her and even carefully tucked the blanket around her.

Perhaps she really was exhausted. She slept soundly through the night.

It wasn't until noon the next day that Olivia's phone rang. She finally stirred awake and realized that one of her team members was calling.

There were 12 missed calls.

Olivia froze for a moment before quickly taking the call.

"Bad news, Olivia! Shannon's team presented a drug efficacy report and a commercialization plan at today's meeting at Jebb Corporation. They're exactly the same as ours!"

Olivia's eyes widened in shock. Those formulas and data came from two whole years of research she and her team had conducted. How dare Shannon steal her research?

Olivia immediately hurried to Jebb Corporation. The moment she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Shannon at the corner of the hallway.

Shannon looked at her smugly. "Olivia? What brings you here? The meeting just ended. Everyone said my team's new drug development proposal has amazing potential. If we submit it, we'll definitely win."

Olivia looked at her coldly. "That's my research."

"I know." Shannon shrugged. "A few days ago, I casually mentioned to Caleb that I wanted to have a career of my own too. Guess what happened?

"He immediately set up a research team just for me. He even gave me your research materials!" Shannon burst into laughter.

Olivia's mind went blank, and a chill ran through her.

Seeing her pale face, Shannon smiled even wider. "Don't worry, Olivia. You worked so hard on it, didn't you? I'll pay you for your hard work."

With that, she slowly pulled a ten-dollar bill from her wallet. "Will ten dollars be enough?"

The car was too close and moving too fast. There was no time for Olivia to get out of the way."Olivia!" Trevor's eyes widened. Without a second thought, he stepped in front of her, shielding her with his body. At the very last moment, another engine roared to life. A black car rammed into the side of Shannon's car. It was Caleb's car.A deafening crash rang out as the impact sent Shannon's car off course. Both cars had been traveling at high speed, causing Caleb and Shannon to lose control of their vehicles. The two cars ended up crashing across the middle of the road. The cars were badly crumpled, their windows shattered. Thick smoke billowed into the air. Before anyone could even process what had happened, a large truck appeared in the distance. Unable to stop in time, it came barreling toward the two cars in the middle of the road. As the truck collided with the cars, flames erupted, and smoke and dust filled the air. Not far away, Gerald and Vivian stood there, watch

Vivian became agitated. "You're the reason all this happened! Olivia, you set us up! How did we end up with a daughter like you? You schemed against us! We're your parents! If you don't pay us back, don't blame us for what happens next!""Is that so?" Olivia sneered. "Well, what are you going to do about it? Did I force you to hand over the three billion dollars? Why did you invest everything you had in Jebb Corporation?"You did all that so you could help Shannon get together with Caleb! You wanted your precious daughter to marry well. You were hoping to use Jebb Corporation's resources to get ahead overnight!"Now that your gamble didn't pay off and you ended up losing everything, you want to blame it on me?"Olivia stared at Gerald and Vivian, who had gone deathly pale. Her voice turned even colder. "At the end of the day, you brought this on yourselves. It's got nothing to do with me. If you keep harassing me, I'll call the cops on you."Gerald and Vivian exchanged glances

The anger in Caleb's eyes faded, and all that was left was emptiness and disbelief. "Olivia, you're with another guy now? Then what am I to you now? What did our relationship even mean to you?""It was a mistake." The moment Olivia said that, Caleb felt all his strength leave his body, and he staggered backward. Olivia swept her gaze over Caleb before looking away. Without looking back at him, she instinctively reached for Trevor's hand. "Let's go.""Alright." Trevor wrapped his arm around her shoulders and turned to leave. Caleb was the only one left standing there, watching Olivia and Trevor disappear into the distance. The night breeze swept through the lavender fields, making a mess of his dark hair and leaving him chilled to the bone. He finally realized that Olivia really didn't love him anymore.Or perhaps she hadn't loved him for a long time. Caleb was the only one stuck in the past, unwilling to accept the truth and living in denial.…Trevor drove steadily al

Olivia and Trevor turned to look at Caleb at the same time. No emotion flickered in her eyes. She looked at him as if he were just a stranger. Caleb immediately strode toward them. Seeing her in someone else's arms was driving him crazy. His voice came out hoarse and strained. "Olivia, come with me."He fixed his gaze on her. "I've thought it over. I think… I've fallen for you. Let's get married again. We'll start over. We can live together like a normal married couple and enjoy life together. What do you think?"As soon as those words left his mouth, a faint, mocking smile tugged at the corners of Olivia's lips. "I'm sorry, Mr. Jebb. Your love means nothing to me."Olivia watched his face grow paler, yet she remained unfazed. Instead, she seemed almost delighted. "I'll be honest. The worse off you are, the happier I am."Caleb jolted, as if something had struck him deep in the chest, making it hard for him to breathe. He looked at Olivia in disbelief, his eyes bloodshot.

Caleb couldn't take it anymore and turned to leave. "Where are you going?" Shannon anxiously grabbed his arm to stop him, but he shook her off, causing her to fall to the floor. "Ah!" Shannon yelped in pain, tears instantly welling in her eyes. But Caleb didn't even seem to notice as he swiftly left his office. He pulled out his phone and opened his contacts. Olivia's name seemed to jump out at him from the screen. He quickly gave her a call. A cold, automated voice came through the phone. "The number you have dialed is currently busy and cannot be reached."After a few beeps, the call disconnected.Caleb froze for a moment before sending her a message. Then he immediately realized that he had been blocked. Olivia had cut him off without hesitation, leaving him no way to get through to her. Caleb's heart sank. The moment their lips touched, Caleb's eyes turned red. His chest heaved as he asked in a low voice, "Why do you get to just walk away? Why do you get to leave just like that? Why did you leave me here to suffer alone? Come back… "Come back. Do you hear me? Keep fighting with me. I want you to keep arguing with me. Just stay with me…""You can't leave. Not without my permission…" Caleb muttered over and over again, his hot breath spilling over the woman's lips. Caleb tightened his arms around her, as if he wanted to make sure she could never escape him. There was something obsessive, almost deranged about it."Olivia… Come back to me…"The woman in his arms clearly froze when she heard that name, her voice full of disbelief. "Caleb, look at me. Do you even know who I am?"Caleb suddenly snapped back to reality. That wasn't Olivia's voice. The drunken haze in his mind began to clear. The moment his vision finally focused, he realized the woman standing in front of him wasn
