The key sat in the lock. I had just been about to turn it.

Laughter drifted from inside the house, bright and sharp. Each word they uttered stabbed straight into my ears.

"Keith, you're so good to me! This is limited edition. I've been looking everywhere, but I couldn't find it."

Caroline Jenkins' voice was syrupy sweet, the exact tone my husband, Keith Collins, loved most.

My voice had always been cool and quiet. I could never fake such soft, clingy sweetness.

I used to think he loved me because I was different, with my calm, detached edge.

Until the day I accidentally overheard him joking with his friends.

"Silvia's great in every way. It's just her personality and her voice. They're too bland. It's kind of tasteless."

Since that moment, those words had lodged inside me like a tiny thorn. Every time I opened my mouth to speak, there was a trace of hesitation, a hint of quiet insecurity.

I took a deep breath, but the tightness in my chest did not ease.

Then, I shoved the door open.

The laughter in the living room froze. All three of them turned to look at me, their smiles stiffening instantly.

My mother-in-law, Melanie Collins, had a healthy flush on her cheeks. There was not a single sign of the ‘allergy’ she always complained about.

Caroline was wrapped around Keith's arm, clinging to him intimately. In her hand was the perfume I had wanted so badly last month but could not bring myself to buy.

"You're back?" Keith instinctively pulled his arm away from Caroline. "Today isn't one of the days you're supposed to come home."

I had not even said anything yet.

Caroline looked at me timidly, her eyes wide. "Silvia, don't misunderstand. I just came to visit my godmother."

I glanced at her calmly. "Why are you so nervous? I didn't even do anything. You're making it look like I'm the bad guy."

Caroline looked even more frightened. It was the kind of fragile, pitiful expression that made people want to protect her.

Keith frowned as he looked at me. "What's wrong with you today?" he asked, his tone dropping. "Who upset you? Why are you talking like that?"

Then, his voice hardened. "Silvia, this is not the place for you to throw a tantrum."

I lifted my gaze to him. He was looking down at Caroline. I could not see his full expression, but I caught the faint curve of a smile at the corner of his lips. Was this what he found amusing, carefully staged sweetness?

The tightness in my chest deepened.

Just then, Melanie grabbed her chest, coughing uncontrollably.

"Why are you back? Ever since you showed up, everything's gone wrong. I can't breathe anymore!"

Her face flushed red, tears spilling out instantly.

Keith rushed over right away, patting her back anxiously. "Mom, are you okay? Don't panic. I'll make her leave right now!"

He turned to me, his voice sharp. "Can't you see Mom isn't feeling well? Why are you still standing there? Leave!"

In the past, seeing this scene would have filled me with guilt. I would have packed my things and left immediately.

How stupid I was.

I looked at her calmly. "Mom, stop pretending."

Everyone froze.

Keith's expression darkened. "Silvia, how could you talk to Mom like that? You know her health isn't good."

Oh, I knew. I knew all too well.

That was exactly why I was not going to put up with it anymore.

After divorcing Keith, my world finally went quiet. With the money I received, along with my own savings, I opened a small floral studio. As I surrounded myself with flowers and greenery every day, my life became peaceful and full again.I thought Keith and I would never cross paths again for the rest of our lives.Until one day, he showed up at the door of my studio, reeking of alcohol. He had lost so much weight that he barely looked like himself. His eyes were sunken, and his face unshaven. He looked worn down and broken."Silvia…" His voice was hoarse and thick with emotion. "I was wrong. I know I was wrong." He went on to tell me everything that had happened since, from Caroline's scheming to his mother's stroke, speaking through tears as his voice trembled. I listened quietly, my expression calm.Deep down, there was a faint sense of satisfaction. People like them had deserved exactly that kind of ending."I'm sorry, Silvia. Come back to me. Please!" he begged. "My mom

In the days that followed, Keith lived in a constant state of conflict. On one hand, he could not stop thinking about Silvia. He kept going through their old photos again and again, as if he were trying to hold on to something that was already gone.On the other hand, he had to face the growing expectations of his mother and Caroline. His mother treated Caroline like a doll, handling her with extreme care and giving in to everything she wanted, afraid she might upset her in the slightest.Caroline stopped hiding her true ambitions. She began walking in and out of the master bedroom openly, using the things Silvia had left behind. She even started hinting to Keith that once the baby was born, it would be time for them to have the wedding. The thought left Keith feeling suffocated, forcing him to confront something he had never fully admitted before: he did not love Caroline, and what he felt for her was nothing more than guilt over his mistake and a sense of responsibility toward

"Silvia! You shameless woman!"You're nothing but bad luck. Ever since you showed up, you've ruined my son's life!"Melanie completely lost control. She screamed and lunged at me like she wanted to tear me apart.Keith grabbed her tightly, trying to hold her back, but she kept struggling. "Our family must have been blind to let you marry into this house!"Her whole body shook with anger, her voice sharp and vicious. "You can't even give him a child. What kind of wife does that make you?"Now, our whole family is a mess because of you. Are you happy now?"I let out an icy laugh."Why can't I have children? Don't you know exactly why?"At the beginning, when Melanie first started having those so-called allergic reactions to me, I truly believed something was wrong with me.Desperate to help her get better, I panicked and ended up trusting the so-called experts she brought in, following their advice and taking herbs and supplements for half a year. It was not until later that a r

"Shut up!" Keith snapped. The entire room fell silent.I lifted my head and stared straight at him. "Keith, you were with her the day my mom had surgery?"His eyes flickered."You were out shopping with her, weren't you? You had turned off your phone and missed more than a dozen calls from the hospital asking for the payment."A wave of shock rippled through his coworkers watching nearby."Oh my god, is that true? That's inhumane!""He played with his mother-in-law's life for his mistress’ sake…"The whispers pushed Keith over the edge. His face twisted with anger and humiliation."So what if I was? Silvia, do you have to humiliate me like this? Can't you stand seeing me happy?"I let out a hollow laugh. "Keith, it took me until today to realize just how disgusting you are."Caroline jumped in, her voice suddenly sharp as she pointed at me. "Don't you dare put all the blame on Keith!"She let out an icy laugh, her tone cutting. "You were the problem from the very beginning.

It was lunchtime, and the office was crowded with people coming and going. I walked straight to Keith's department and stopped in front of his desk.He was laughing with a coworker. The second he saw me, the smile vanished from his face."What are you doing here?" he asked under his breath.I raised my phone and displayed the photos Caroline had sent me for everyone to see.A wave of sharp gasps spread through the room. People's eyes darted back and forth between Keith and me."Keith, this is what you meant by 'just a sister'? A sister who wears my pajamas and sleeps with you?"You kicked me out of the house just to make room for your dear little sister?"Keith's face flushed bright red. He reached for my phone, trying to snatch it away, but I stepped aside and avoided him."Silvia! Have you lost your mind?!" He kept his voice low, but his anger still showed. "Do you even know where you are? You may not care about your reputation, but I do!"I could not help laughing."Now yo

"The money you've been sending to Caroline every month is money I saved by cutting back on everything. I stopped myself from buying even a single piece of new clothing!"When you were paying for Caroline to live her carefree life, did you ever think about me for even one second?"Keith looked stunned, like he had been hit too hard to react. The more I spoke, the more my emotions slipped out of control. My voice started to tremble."Last year, when my mom got sick and needed surgery, I begged you to take some money out to save her life. But you told me we didn't have any money!"You gave Caroline the money that could have saved her. Just $50,000 more, and she might have lived…"That had been the most helpless moment of my life. The doctor said the surgery had a high success rate, but there was an extra cost. I had emptied all my savings and still came up $50,000 short. I went to Keith, desperate, asking for help. He told me calmly that all the money in the joint account had been
