Chapter 13

[ARIETTA’s POV]

I thanked the receptionist and quickly ran back to the dorm to get ready. It was only a little past 3:00 PM, and I wasn’t doing anything, so I figured it would be fine to leave and check on my father.

I was anxious. So many thoughts raced through my mind about why he might be desperate to speak with me now.

Once I finished changing, I left in a hurry. I didn’t even have time to inform my supervisor or anyone else because I was in such a rush. All I could think about was what could be happening with my father in jail.

I tried to flag down any ride, but none were available. This was one of the frustrations here—it’s hard to find a ride sometimes.

I was sweating from waiting for a ride, but still nothing. Minutes had passed, and I still couldn’t find a way to get to the bus station or even catch a cab.

I walked on, hoping to find a car, but there was nothing. I sighed repeatedly.
