[ARIETTA’S POV]

I noticed Eugene’s sudden change of expression. His forehead furrowed as he scrutinized the man beside me. I’m good at lying, so I’m sure Eugene won’t suspect anything.

I was nervous, though, because it seemed like Eugene was closely observing us. To play along, I leaned even closer to Sir Pierce.

“Is he your boyfriend?” Eugene asked, pointing at Sir Pierce. I took a deep breath and nodded.

"Seriously, Ari. Why would you settle for someone like this when you could have me? Out of all the options, you go for someone who looks like he’s just a laborer at this villa."

His words made me frown. I glanced at Sir Pierce and noticed his simple clothes and cowboy boots—he must have just come from the farm or horseback riding.

Sir Pierce scoffed, as though he was ready to respond to Eugene’s comment.

Eugene stepped closer, so I subtly moved back, still holding onto Sir Pierce.

“Ari, I courted you for a long time, didn’t I? And now, you’re just going to replace me with someone like this? He probably can’t even support you. Sure, he has a handsome face, but that’s all he’s got! He can’t give you anything.”

“I don’t care about someone’s wealth, Eugene. If all you have to offer is your family’s money, then I don’t need it—and you definitely don’t stand a chance with me. I already turned you down before, but you wouldn’t let it go. Now that I have a boyfriend, could you please stop interfering in my life? I can only offer you friendship. If you can’t accept that, then we’re done here.”

I was annoyed by what he said. He always flaunted his family’s wealth and constantly gave me things. I don’t want him throwing it in my face someday, especially since I’ve already made it clear that I’m not interested.

“He’s older than you!” Eugene shouted at me.

“I’m of legal age, Eugene. I can make my own decisions. So what if he’s a few years older than me? If he’s who I want, then he’s who I want.” I felt embarrassed saying all this, but I could explain everything to Sir Pierce later.

I flinched when my hand slipped from Sir Pierce’s arm, and I felt his hand move to my waist, gently caressing it.

“Is this guy bothering you, love? I’ve been looking all over for you, and here you are, talking to this guy.” He pulled me even closer, and I felt my mouth go dry at his actions and words.

He kissed the side of my head, and my eyes widened. Why the kiss?

I looked up at Pierce and saw his smirking lips. Gosh, I’m doomed.

“N-No, Eugene was just leaving,” I said, giving Eugene a pleading look, hoping he would go.

“I need proof! If he’s really your boyfriend, Ari, prove it,” Eugene demanded.

My jaw nearly dropped at his words. What kind of proof does he want?

“That’s easy,” Pierce said with a teasing tone.

He turned me to face him and, without warning, leaned his face close to mine. But instead of my lips, he went to my ear and whispered, “Make it believable. I’m doing you a favor here.”

I closed my eyes, understanding exactly what he meant.

I held Pierce’s cheek and brought my lips close to the corner of his mouth. From our position, anyone watching would think I kissed him on the lips, even though it wasn’t really a kiss on the lips.

When I glanced back at Eugene, I saw his face flush with anger. He glared at me and Pierce before finally storming off. I heard him mutter that this wasn’t over, so I knew he’d be back. So stubborn!

As soon as Eugene left, I let go of Pierce. I was about to apologize, but his teasing smile caught me off guard.

“So I’m your boyfriend now? Since when?” he asked with a mocking tone. I swallowed, watching him playfully run his tongue over his lips as he looked at me. “I don’t remember you courting me.”

My eyes widened at his last remark. This man really knows how to put on a show.

“I’m sorry, sir. I only said that to make Eugene leave me alone. He just wouldn’t stop bothering me. I’m really sorry.” I even bowed my head to show him how sincere my apology was.

“Hmm, so you’re my girlfriend now, huh? What should we do about it? Maybe you should make it up to me—with a real kiss this time.”

I frowned but didn’t let it show. I took a deep breath, mustering my courage to face him. I forced a smile so he wouldn’t notice how annoyed I was at his suggestion. Why would I kiss him on the lips?

"No, sir. I only said that as an excuse. You don’t have to take it seriously." And I don’t want it to be real either. I never dreamed of being Sir Pierce’s girlfriend. He’s just like Eugene—he gives off that player vibe.

“I have a girlfriend now; I can’t believe it.” He laughed. Argh! He’s not even listening to what I’m saying!

I was about to speak again when he got a call. He looked at his phone and quickly walked over to take it. At least I could finally breathe a bit easier.

I left as well and decided to visit our supervisor to check how many more hours I needed to complete my internship. I also checked on Blaire’s hours, and she had more to complete than I did. She’s always late, so it added up.

I figured Sir Pierce might tease me about what happened earlier. But whatever, at least the issue with Eugene is over now. I guess I just have to worry about Sir Pierce.

Tomorrow is Saturday, and we don’t have work. Sometimes, when it’s busy, we come in to make up hours, but this time, I decided to go home. It’s my aunt’s birthday, and it’d be rude if I didn’t go. I was also considering visiting my dad, but the precinct where he’s held is quite far. If my aunt decides to visit him, then I’ll go too. Besides, my dad doesn’t always like me visiting. He says the precinct isn’t a good place to be seen, so he prefers I don’t come.

“Are you going home tomorrow, Ari?” Blaire asked. Judging by her packing her bag, it looked like she was planning to head home too.

"Yes, it’s been a while. I’m also a bit worried about Aunty since she’s alone at home,” I told her. She nodded and smiled at me.

[PERCIVAL’S POV]Arietta held my hand tightly. We’ve been here in the delivery room for a while, and she’s been cursing at me non-stop because of her labor. If words could kill, I’d probably be at my own wake by now. This is my first time seeing her give birth—I didn’t get to witness the birth of our firstborn.I kissed the hand she was holding onto me with while the doctor and nurses were taking care of her. I reassured her that everything would be okay. The doctor kept giving instructions to Arietta, telling her the status of the baby while I was nervously thinking about how long it usually takes for women to give birth.I did my research, of course, and it said that delivery times can vary. Some women take a long time, while others give birth quickly.Arietta and I are married. We decided to get married before her belly got too big. She didn’t want to wear a wedding gown that would show her pregnancy, and I didn’t want to wait too long before we were officially married. So, even th

[ARIETTA’S POV]Tears started to flow even more as he said those words. I had only dreamed of hearing those words from him. To be accepted by Pierce’s father. I thought it would always remain a dream, something that would never come true, but now... I was hearing it from him.I couldn’t speak anymore. Even thanking him felt impossible as the tears just kept flowing.Uncle Marcello stood up and hugged me. It felt like I was receiving the embrace of another father."Thank you, Uncle. Thank you..."If I were to list the things that made me happy in this life, this moment would be among them. My heart feels so light now, as one of the heaviest feelings has vanished.Pierce entered the room. He was shocked to see me crying and immediately came over to us."What's wrong?" Pierce asked, slightly worried.I smiled at him and shook my head. I didn’t need to say anything for him to understand what I wanted to convey.Uncle Marcello patted his son’s back and turned away from us. He slipped a han

[ARIETTA’S POV]I remained staring at Mr. Marcello Grimaldi. Nervous and lost in my own feelings, I couldn’t read what he was thinking, and his eyes showed no expression."How are you feeling?" he asked me.I was taken aback because I didn’t expect that to be the first thing he would ask. I lowered my head and shyly replied."I-I’m okay. I remembered what you did earlier, so I wanted to thank you. Thank you for stopping Mr. Ciro Verdi. I know you did that for me…""I’m sorry."I froze at his words when he suddenly said those two words. I looked up at him, and I don’t think you could paint the look on my face right now because of how shocked I was. Did I really hear that correctly? Did he really apologize to me?He smiled. It was the kind of smile that wasn’t truly happy. It was full of regret and shame. I also noticed the sadness in that smile."I don’t know where to begin," he said, taking a deep breath. "I was blinded by my hatred and anger. I didn’t listen to what others, Pierce an

[ARIETTA’S POV]I felt weak and dizzy when I saw the gun pointed at me. My anxiety worsened when I heard who the old man in front of me was."I didn’t... kill her," I managed to speak, though I was slightly weak. "I would never do that to Aunt Giovanna.""You may not have done it yourself, but I know you’re involved!" His voice was filled with fury. "I don’t understand why Marcello let you into his son’s life! You will pay for what happened to my daughter! You don’t deserve to live while my daughter is gone from this world!"I flinched, almost certain he was about to pull the trigger. His grip on the gun was so tight that I felt at any moment, he could fire it at me. I kept denying it, but he wouldn't listen."My daughter was so kind, and you made her your target? You West are animals!"I didn’t know how to explain that I was just caught up in the situation. But I understood his pain; he lost his child. Perhaps, to him, anyone could bear the brunt of his grief and anger over what happ

  • Grimaldi's Blood and Vows   Chapter 149

[ARIETTA’S POV]Earlier, while we were in the air, and Pierce told me to look out the window at the ground, I was greeted by an arrangement of flowers forming the words: WILL YOU MARRY ME?And now, here we were, in the place where those flowers were, and Pierce was kneeling before me.The feeling is surreal, like I’m dreaming."I hope this proposal is enough for you," he laughed, which made me laugh too. "I promised you years ago that I would marry you at the right time... and I believe this is it, Arietta."Pierce took a deep breath. He was confident, but I could see a hint of nervousness in his eyes.I used to tell other women that they deserved better, that I wasn’t the one for them. I’ve never been fond of entering relationships because I felt like I wasn’t suited for them.I was shocked by his sudden confession. "But now, I want to be a better person for you, Arietta. I won’t tell you that you deserve someone better than me—I'm going to be the standard, the better person for you.

  • Grimaldi's Blood and Vows   Chapter 148

[ARIETTA’S POV]I was planning to tell Pierce about my pregnancy. I’ve already seen a doctor, so it’s no surprise anymore because, well, we’ve been quite active in that area. I was just preparing myself on how to tell Pierce.I woke up in the middle of my sleep when I felt something move on my shoulder. I opened my eyes and knew that the sun hadn’t risen yet."Why?" I mumbled, still sleepy. Why was Pierce waking me up so early? It’s still too early. Auriette isn’t even awake yet.I felt him move closer to my ear. "Wake up, love. We’re going somewhere today.""Pierce, the sun hasn’t risen yet.""That’s the point. Come on. I know you’ll need time to get dressed, so get up now. You don’t want to miss this."So, I had no choice. I brushed my teeth, quickly freshened up, and got dressed. Pierce and I left the penthouse. Auriette was still asleep, so I figured we wouldn’t be bringing him."Where are we going?" I yawned as we headed toward the basement parking. Beside Pierce’s car, I saw Ger
