Silence passed between them. No one spoke, since Xania sat next to him. Only the sound of waves crashing on the shore can be heard.
The silence between them was not awkward at first, but now that Vince could feel the presence of the person next to him and she didn't speak to even break the silence, that's when he started to feel the awkwardness between them. So he was the first to talk.
