Chapter 8 Last minute arrangements

Edith found them a place where she was renting, it was a 1 room, with a kitchen, and an ensuite toilet and shower. It wasnt the best but it was liveable with such short notice. Jacob and Sarah met with the land lords and paid a deposit of R1000. The would move in at the end of January.

Now they had to puzzle a way of getting essential furniture and appliances to use.

We have no bed or beddings. Where will we sleep?

Nash had sponsored Sarah a brand new bed as a wedding gift to them. That was one problem solved. Sarah and Jacob went shopping and found a cheap comforter set.

We have no stove, utensils or cupboards. Mrs White and her husband had an old glass top they were not using, they had given it to Jacob to use. Second problem solved.

Carry-anne and her husband gave them a set of pots. Sarah went shopping at a salvage store for utensils which she picked up dirt cheap.  Problem 3 solved.

Nats landlady had old built-in cupboards in her garage. This would do for the time being. Sarah and Jacob accepted it with open arms.

Any help they could get they took.

The tuck shop lady at the hospital had an old but working fridge in her shop. Jacob had asked her if she was selling it. She wasnt but he was insistant on her selling him the fridge. She eventually agreed and sold it to him for R800. Was a bit pricey but they needed it. He paid for it and asked Mark to fetch it in his stationwagon .S

Sarah cleaned the fridge inside and out with bleach. It was now white, clean and smelling fresh.

Mr Daniels took them shopping for food and essentials. Grocery shopping was new to them. She bought things she thought they would eat. And detergents they would use.

A kettle was essential, she picked the cheapest one off the shelf. It was a black cordless kettle.

She received saucers, plates and cups from work colleagues who heard about their sudden marriage. A few commented on why weren't invited. SARAH WANTED TO REPLY SHE WASN'T INVITED ASWELL.

Sarah and Jacob was the gossip of the hospital. They had to wait for another juicy story to come about before theirs died down.

As usaul, when people get married young or suddenly, the assumption is made. Sarah spent some time convincing people she was not pregnant.

Their boss had gifted them another comforter set. It was a burgundy floral queen sized set which included a fitted sheet, two standard sized pillow cases and two continental pillow cases. To this they where grateful as nights could get really cold, although they were still in summer. Atleast they had one less thing to worry about, shivering their asses off every night.

Sarah and Jacob were new to all of this and they hoped and prayed their love would keep them strong enough to brave through this storm.
