Empty.
It's the only word I can use to describe the streets I walk in. The only sound I hear, is the occasional hoot of an owl which was nearby, adding to the eerie. I shuffled along, skipping over stagnant waters, and using the lights before me to lead the way. The cold wind wisped around me, making me grip my body tighter. I was shivering, my teeth clattering, but I dare not stop walking. It's just a matter of time before I get to the city. Paranoia fills me and I begin to look around me, having thoughts that someone might be following me. But it's all in my head.
I finally get on the streets that are lit by night lamps and keep walking. This is usually the most dangerous part of town because dangerous people hide beneath the shadows, waiting for the next hapless people to fall into their trap and I just might be one of them. My pace quickens and so does my breath. It doesn't take long before I break into a run…. And of course, hear footsteps behind me.
At first, I think it's in my head, but I'm proven wrong when a hand draws me back. Terrified, I drop my bag and run even faster.
" Get that girl!!" A voice yells, but it sounds like an army yells my name. I trip over myself and lay flat on the floor, shivering furiously now. The tears are out in torrents. Two strong hands pull me up and force me into a corner. A hand is clasped over my mouth and I can not scream. Thrown over to a corner, I hit the cold hard floor and it leaves me dizzy. Then I hear the unbuckling of belts. Real horror sweeps past my soul. I'm about to get raped, not just by one man but three. How grand is that? One of them walks towards me and pulls my hand backward so I can't move. Then the other begins to pull at my jeans. I can only mumble " please stop." But they don't hear.
I can't see their faces, it's too dark for that. I try to move but the grip on me only gets tighter. I wince in pain.
" Hurry, we don't have all night." One of them says. I slowly look at him.
" I'm as fast as I can, motherfucker" the one who is struggling with my jeans says. Eventually, he gets it off and for the second time this night, I'm half-naked. I close my eyes and blurry images of past trauma replay in my head and before I know it, I let out an ear-piercing scream. It stuns the rapists and they quickly scramble for what to use to close my mouth. One of them put his hands over my mouth and out of fright, I sink my teeth in. He lets out a Yelp before hitting me across the face. I go numb. Furious now, I'm being pushed on the floor with of them above me. I don't stop screaming, even though being hit countless times. Something cuts into my flesh, my stomach to be precise and I realized I've been stabbed. I only scream louder. I'm hallucinating, jerking in and out, and also writhing. Above, lightning flashes and thunderclaps. A storm is nearing.
Then I hear dog barks, someone is coming closer. The rapists all exchanged looks of shock before scrambling to their feet. They don't want to get caught. As the barks come closer and the boys hurry out of sight. Suddenly I'm calm and quiet, with my sides bleeding. The dog barks loudly and I hear the sound of hurried feet and hooves. Everywhere is quiet. With one final gust of the cold wind, small cold drops of water make their way to the Earth's floor and the rain begins to fall. I close my eyes, it washes away my tears. Painstakingly I stand up and wear my jeans. My sides are bleeding badly and there is no first aid in Sight. With shivering hands, I tie a piece of cloth on the wound and begin walking in the rain.
I must've walked a long distance when dizziness begins to hit me. Removing my hands from my wounded area, it's full of blood, my blood. I watch as the rain washes it off, having strange delight in it. I'm beginning to get frostbites, my legs can't carry me anymore and I'm weak all over. I go down on one knee, then another until I'm laying on the empty street, the rain still pouring.
My heartbeat is slowing and my fingers are so numb I can't move them anymore. The blurry memories play again while I slowly let myself go. Whoever did this to me, deserves an award of being the coldest human being alive. Thunderclaps overhead and slowly I black out.

I smell flowers, it smells like lavender and Jasmine and freshly cut lemons, it's refreshing. Is this what heaven smells like? Then I want to stay here forever. A hand gently presses the wounded area and I wince in pain. There are no pains in heaven, so this isn't heaven. Slowly I open my eyes and see a woman above me, dressing my wounds. My eyes are fully opened now and I'm staring at the woman who keeps concentrating on what she's doing. After a while, she glances at me when she sees I'm awake, stops, and smiles lightly. I don't smile back.
" I see you're awake." She says. " Here, let me help you up a bit." She moves closer and raises me, so I sit a little bit higher. She looks old, maybe in her early fifties.
" What am I doing here?" I quietly ask.
" I brought you in, you were lying in the middle of the street after I came back from the pub last night, in the rain and bleeding."
' then why didn't you let me die!" My subconscious screamed but she was still talking so I paid attention to her.
" You were very cold and pale I thought you were dead. But then you twitched and I noticed you were still breathing. And here you are!' she exclaimed gently, with a smile on her face. I didn't say anything as I glanced around the small room.
" I live alone." She added. " And if I may ask, what were you doing out all alone? The city is dangerous!"
I stared at her and made to say the reason why I was outside.
" I got kicked out, by my adoptive parents," I whispered. She gasped, her face reflecting shock.
" Oh my gosh! And why would they think of doing that?"
" I stabbed him, he tried to rape me." Then confusion replaced it.
" Either way, they shouldn't have done what they did. They didn't care if you would get hurt or not." She admonished as if they were here. I smiled cynically.
" Nobody cares about me. I'm a nobody." She turned to me and said comfortingly.
" you're a nobody. As long as you're still alive, you're still someone." I shrugged, not believing what she said.
" Ah well, I guess I should leave you to rest, you must be really tired…. By the way, how old are you?"
" I'm nineteen."
" You'll be fine. Let me go get some things you'll need. I'll be right back." And with that, she stood up and made to leave the room.
" Wait," I called out. She stopped and turned to me." Thank you, and I hope you don't regret this." I said.
She smiled, I think she likes smiling." I won't." She ascertained and left the room, closing the door behind her.
Glancing around the room one last time, I played with my fingers. It felt peaceful here but I still didn't know the woman who saved me. Maybe she's just pretending like the rest of them…..
I'll just have to wait and see, won't I??
It's the early hours of the morning and I'm twisting and turning on the tiny bed. It's the same nightmares, they never end. It all begins with a car crashing into another, everywhere bloody and nobody surviving and it doesn't end there then a woman is crying bitterly, maybe she's the wife of the deceased and two girls comforting her, Their faces blurry so I can't recognize them, after that, gunshots and a young lady sprawled on the hard floor with a man above her and some more waiting in line. It's all so nauseating and sickening I want to open my eyes but they are sealed shut and am jerking on the bed. Just before I wake up, I feel myself been thrown off a cliff and landing with a splash into the icy sea, and boom everything blacks out... I think I'm dead. Until I feel a pair of hands shaking me roughly and I realize I'm still alive. I slowly open my eyes and, of course, they are tear-filled with beads of sweat forming and
(Three years later) Ray's P. O. V My phone beeping wakes me up. It's not even my alarm. I groan and, half-awake, use my hand to feel and take my phone, which is on the bedside table. Unlocking it, I find out it's a message. From David. David: Last night was a blast!! Let's do it again today. There's a new resort opening at Florida bay, we can hang out there, close to the sea. It'll be fun. Waiting for your reply. I let out a small smile. Fully awake now, I send him a quick reply. Ray: Okay... Whatever you say. I get out of my king-sized bed, stretched my body. Running my hands through my shaggy hair, I let out a small groan. I had better take those hangover pills. Picking myself up, I shuffle into the bathroom and clean myself up. Once I'm through, I step out of the room down the stairs to the dining area where my mum is always in. The na
Ray's P. O. V It did take some time, but I eventually found a shop that was still open. It looked like a restaurant and very few people in it. Walking briskly, I crossed the road and walked into the shop, jingling a bell as the door opened. Everyone seemed to be minding their business as no one paid attention to the new customer. I walked over to bartender and after exchanging pleasantries, stated my reason for coming here. She offered to help but told me I had to wait a wile my phone was still charging. " No problem ma'am. Thanks by the way." I said and nodded. " You're welcome. Would you like anything while you wait?" " Sure. A glass of whisky doesn't sound bad right about now" I replied. She poured me a glass and passed it to me. I nodded and took a sip. " I'll leave you here. I have some things to attend to," she said
Ray's P. O. VIt's been three days since my weird encounter with that ice cold waitress and honestly I can't stop thinking about her. Her beautiful long dark hair, sad or empty grey eyes and pale skin. Every cell in me just wants to see her again. She even appeared in my dream once although I wouldn't say if it was good one or a bad one.Right now I'm with Stacy and we just finished shopping. Since we were famished we decided to go to a restaurant to have lunch. I was hoping spending time with Stacy will help me forget about Vera but I don't think it helped one bit. My mind kept going back to Vera." Ray.... Are you listening?" Stacy asked for the umpeethnt time. I glanced at her, lost." I'm sorry, but were you saying something?" I asked." Oh my Gosh Ray, you've drifted off again."" I'm sorry.." I apologized." Tell me, what were you thinking about. Maybe I can help." Sh
Vera's P. O. V After a while, I finally leave for my grocery shopping. Putting my hair in a tight bun, I put a hoodie over it and began walking in the direction of the grocery store. All of a sudden I felt different. I felt as though someone is watching me and maybe following me. I stop, turning but find no one that I recognize behind me. I heave a sigh and try to relax. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.I begin walking, but this time I hasten my steps. The feeling comes back and I'm beginning to get scared. I look forward and see the grocery store in sight. The last distance I cover running and rush into the grocery store, panting heavily. I check my hands and realized they are sweating. Calm down Vera, no one's after you, I say to myself. After a few calming breaths, I begin shopping, buying everything on the list. My face is in my hoodie so no one can see me. Once I'm through, I pay for the goods and leave the store.
Vera. It's the morning of the next day. I sat close to the window in my room, staring out of it. Madam Deborah had told me what happened and how Ray rescued me. She also added that if he came around anytime, I should thank him. I sighed hearing that... I mean, I do owe him one, don't I? I wonder how things would have gone downhill if he hadn't come to help. Someone knocks at my door, opening it, and peeks in. I turn around and see it's Madam Deborah. She has a smile on her face and I manage one." Good morning." I greeted, my voice throaty." Good morning to you, too. Are you ready? The shop is open." She informed, coming in a little. I nod a bit, tucking my hair behind my ears." Okay. I'll be down in a minute." I reply. She nods and leaves the room. I stood up from the chair and tying my hair back in a ponytail, wear my necklace and walk out of the room. Another workday waiting for me....
(Next day) Ray's P. O. V I woke up the next day feeling groggy. Lying on the bed, I stayed awake for hours, still thinking about the picture I saw in my dad's study and why he doesn't want to talk about it. I eventually slept in the early hours of the morning, only to be woken up by my alarm. Stretching out, I proceeded to the bathroom and did my morning duties. Once I was done, I got out and cleaned myself out, wearing my clothes and other accessories. Putting on my wristwatch, I walked out of the room down to the kitchen I stopped at the kitchen to take a bottle of water from the fridge. Unscrewing the cap, I drank from it, my gaze wandering. That's when something caught my eye in the trash can. It was the picture, but this time it was in the trash bin. Who put it there? Looking around me and seeing no one nearby, I picked it up and removed the picture from the frame, then dispos
Ray's P. O. V Dad asked me to come to work today to begin to learn various things about business management. So far so good. It's been good and right now am in a shareholders meeting getting to know the people who have shares in my dad's company and being familiar with them. The meeting soon ended and after our good days, they left the board room leaving me and Dad alone in it." So what do we get to do after this?" I asked him as I picked up the files. He glanced at me." You can go around, check other workers and see how they do their things," he replied." Okay.. thanks, dad," I said and left the boardroom. Dropping the files on the table in my office, I walked out and locked the door behind me. A few young ladies in the offices ogled at me as I made my way past them but I was less concerned about that. I walked around the office for a while, looking at people and things. And later, after a bit of impulse, went i
