{NYRA}

Three hours later.

I woke miserably to the sterile antiseptic that sent a sharp, uninviting scent to my nostrils.

My eyes fluttered open to the soft beep of a machine monitor. Each sound was a reminder I was alive, though my body felt mercilessly heavy.

A translucent IV line snaked from my arm to a hanging bag of fluid. Bandages wrapped around my bloodied, stained head, pressing against the pain that stabbed like broken glass shards.

My memory blurred, fragments clawing at me, trying to recall something tragic.

I blinked slowly, adjusting to the sterile light, and felt the weight of healing… of survival.

“What happened?” I muttered, scanning through my environment like a lost, confused cub searching for its mother.

The white sheets lay under me, soft and warm, but the air was cold, humming with fluorescent light.

“You’re safe now.”

The words floated in the sterile air. For a heartbeat, I thought I was hallucinating.

I lifted my weak head slowly, meeting the man who had been locked up in the back of my mind like a prisoner.

Jayden.

I blinked twice, staring at him like I had just seen a ghost.

A dashing figure appeared before me in a long, white, flowing coat.

Maybe an angel, if I wasn’t mistaken.

“Impossible. How…? When did you…?”

He smiled, cutting in between my words. “I came in two days ago, Nyra.”

“I’m happy to see you again. You’re still as gorgeous as ever.”

Was he kidding me? I was a complete shadow of myself… a mockery.

I never imagined I would see Jayden again. It had been seven long years since Zarina and I last heard of him.

And now he appeared before me, looking all handsome and manlier.

Growth and time had carved him into something striking.

My lips parted to respond when the TV screen flashed a bold headline:

“Billionaire Heiress, Ms Nyra Harassed by a Drunk VIP Guest in Exclusive Lounge… identity still unknown.”

That’s not what happened.

That bastard had tipped those hungry bartenders, not to mention his name, but mine.

He had someone blur out his face.

“What happened to you? Who was that man? Did he do all these to you?” Jayden’s voice pressed, heavy with concern.

“First of… how did I get here? And what’re you… doing here… dressed in a white coat?” I cut in.

“You were brought in yesterday night, past nine,” he replied.

“One of the cleaners found you lying lifelessly on the cold ground, barely breathing.”

“He suspected you were in danger because you took so long inside the room. But I’m sorry… he couldn’t say the culprit’s name.”

I heaved a sigh of relief after Jayden told me what happened.

Gratitude swelled in me for whoever that cleaner was. Without his help, I could have been dead.

“Nyra, what were you doing there alone? Draven shouldn’t have let you go all by yourself.”

He paused, his deep blue eyes narrowing.

“Where is he?”

The way he looked at me… it was like he could see everything I was trying to hide.

He continued.

“Two weeks ago, I got a text from her… Zarina, about your wedding. By the way, I just wanna tell you— congratulations, Nyra.”

He flashed a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

His teeth were perfect, but something behind them felt cold.

Maybe I saw it wrong. Or it could be the medications messing with my brain.

Just then, the door swung wide open, revealing Zarina running toward me, circling me in her arms.

Her soft blonde strands of hair fell over me like a comforting veil, muffling the sterile hum of machines.

“I warned you not to go there, Nyra. You’re so stubborn. You don’t listen to anyone but yourself,” she bristled, checking me out like I had just stepped out of a time‑healing machine.

“He did this to you… Draven? That asshole will pay dearly.”

“No… Zar.” I gave her a pleading eye not to drag this further. Jayden was here, listening to our conversation. It felt embarrassing.

“Don’t try to defend him this time. I shouldn’t have let you go there alone. Anything could have happened; you could have been dead.”

“What about the cops? Was he apprehended?”

I shook my head. “No! His name wasn’t disclosed. Besides, I was told they found me lying unconscious on the floor… naked.”

I dragged that last part slowly and quietly.

“He was too fast for me. I couldn’t escape in time.”

I held my bandaged head, flickering back to the memory.

At last, it was over… for a while.

We heard a sudden cough from behind. Jayden was standing there, unintentionally eavesdropping on our conversation.

Gosh. It felt embarrassing.

Their eyes found each other, lingering longer than expected. Zarina hadn’t seen Jayden since he vanished… no calls, no messages, just silence.

“Hi, Zarina… It’s good to see you again.”

“Yeah… same… Jay,” she replied.

Her eyes met mine for a second.

For a moment, I saw a flicker of pain and sadness that felt like a lost treasure kept in a golden chest, hidden inside a deep cave.

Jayden was cool, but it still couldn’t conceal the glint of buried affection that escaped his pretty eyes.

I had always felt they kept secrets tucked away in the deep shallows… secrets the world should never know. Not even me.

But what was it?

{NYRA}I was ambling towards my car when Mr. Dave, one of the paint tutors, ran to my side, breathless, as if he were being chased by a wild boar.“Mr. Dave… Have you been running? You could have raised my attention. I wasn't in a hurry.”He replied, revealing his improperly fractured teeth. “I did, Ms. Nyra. Wow! Your legs are fast for a stunning woman like you.”“And I must say that you are so beautiful. I mean— of course… I… I… just said the same thing. Sorry… I'm just nervous.”Dave grinned, happily like a fan… eager to meet his secret idol. The jeans hugged his legs tightly, so that I could see his huge bulge showing in the middle. I look away. Thankfully he didn't notice my awkward expression. I didn't want to make him more uneasy.“Oh! Thanks,” I said. My lips flickered into a pretentious smile as if I enjoyed his presence. In a second— my brows narrowed and my mouth twisted…When Dave brought out a curvy-edge spray from his brown leather bag. My curiosity was still at the e

{JAYDEN}I prepared breakfast for my wife. I didn't want her to stress herself after yesterday's work. Nyra needed a companion… Someone who would bear her distress and be her calm in the burning flame when she was finding it very strenuous to lift her fingers. And I made sure it stayed that way. Her in my life was certainly the best feeling I could earn and I know she was going to see more of my romantic side. For a lifetime. My little dandelion wasn't going to leave me that easily… only if I wanted it. And that would be the last fucking thought that was gonna ever cross my mind. “Hey!!” Her voice broke through my sanity. I lifted my chin to see her catwalk down the stairs in her satin-blue fitted dress that stopped below her knees, exposing her bare laps.Damn!!!“Hey!!” I said in one breath as my dick monitored every curve on her body. She smiled at me. But I’d be damned if I didn't notice a subtle mischievous smirk plastered on her lips.Nyra ambled towards my direction, t

{NYRA}I thanked the cab as I paced into the house. Sluggish and tired. My toes were killing me. From the way I was struggling to keep my heels on the ground. I knew it was gonna smell horrible. “Jeez!! Today was stressful,” I said to myself. My students wanted more lessons on how I controlled the movement of my brush. The way the tip maintained a steady position on my fingers… captivated their heart. It was a mastery I found during my elementary and I improved on it. “Jessa… Nora!!” I called. My whole body was heavy. The lights were off. And I was still going up the stairs with the grocery bag inside the polythene bag. It also escaped my mind to call Jayden. I assumed he was still at work. Busy.I put on my phone torchlight, peeking into the dark as the mission to find the steps was barely slow. “Ouch!!” I yelped. My toes found the long staircase and my nails were also hit. Thankfully, it didn't pull off from my skin. None of these would have been prevented if patience was a t

{MASSIMO}My little feline beauty was seated at the ‘De Janero Pizza’ spot. I had been here countless times to gather beats and reports. Here in New York… current gossip flies around rampantly. Things like homicide, big time controversial people caught in conflicting affairs with young girls and boys. Shops and restaurants mostly make it to the headline because it's where things like this happen. You’d see wives scrambling in to catch their husbands with their side chicks. Someone who wouldn't mind their fucking business would have told them. Obviously. And sometimes some wives even go as far as pouring acid on cute girls' faces.I wouldn't say I was pleased but hey? It was my job to source for hot cake news like that. And the consequences? The people would ask that such restaurants be shut down permanently. That's why I chose here— hoping to catch a glimpse of fresh baked bread.“I didn't know CEO Zayna would be seated, waiting patiently for me. Wow!! I must be so special to he

{NYRA}“Mrs, Nyra? You’re welcome. Mr. Jayden told me you got sick. How’re you feeling now?” Mr. Alaric welcomed me inside. His voice— steady, but I caught the weight in it.How far have Jayden and he discussed? Because it was definitely clear I heard him put in the ‘Mrs’ title to my name.“Oh, yes. I was. Much better now,” I smiled. Although I knew they were all a lie. My heart couldn't help but feel a little slightly guilty and embarrassed, as if he had seen us that night. Moaning tirelessly, with sex sweats pouring all over our body.My knees grew numb as my corrupted mind replayed back to the scene. I didn't know when I made a ‘hmm’ sound. “Are you alright, Mrs. Nyra?” He asked. A worried expression struck his face as he stared at me. “Yes!!” I whispered.Feigning tiredness as I placed my left hand on my temple. My eyebrows creased. Everything was just a cover-up. “It's just a bad headache. But it's gone now.”“I'm glad,” he flashed his teeth. Adjusting his mismatched blue bo

{ZARINA}I saw the pictures on the internet. Nyra’s new boyfriend. At first I was very skeptical believing what they post nowadays on the internet. For all I know… it could be rumours. Especially when it has to do with a prominent person. And my best friend was a billionaire's daughter.Still— that picture couldn't be fake. It looks too real to be considered a blatant lie.Since when does my best friend keep secrets from me? Was she trying to hide him forever?I pick my phone from my office desk and head straight to our chat. It's been more than a week now since we’ve chatted. These days— I couldn't understand Nyra anymore. It's like she changed. Nowadays we barely see each other unlike before. “Bitch!! Since when did you decide to hide things from me? Who's the new guy?” I hit the send button— it went straight away. Not quite long before she saw it. She also read it. ‘She’s not replying,’ my brows lifted quizzically. Was she kidding me? Here I was dying to know who her new boyfr
