Arden’s eyes widened as his gaze locked with Ryder.

For a moment, he thought his mind was playing tricks on him. He blinked hard, shook his head, then opened his eyes again. No, it was real. The man standing there was Mr. Black Ryder himself—the most feared and most powerful man in the country. Arden’s chest tightened.

What is happening ? Why is he here? Arden thought.

Ryder walked into the room without rushing, each step heavy with authority. He grabbed a chair and dragged it across the floor, the loud scraping sound filling the basement. He placed it in front of Arden, who sat helplessly on the bare floor, hands and feet tied. Ryder sat down, leaned back slightly, and fixed his cold eyes on him.

Arden wanted to look away, but something inside him wouldn’t let him. His gaze stayed locked on Ryder, even though fear shook him from the inside.

That alone seemed to provoke Ryder.

“You dare look me in the eye?” Ryder’s voice was flat, but his anger cut through every word. “Who the

After a long while, Kyle finally came, and they had a full day of lectures before they were able to leave the faculty. By the time the last lecture ended, Arden felt both mentally and physically drained. As usual, the guards opened the car door for him. Arden stepped inside while Kyle waved at him from a distance. “Text me when you get home,” Kyle shouted. Arden nodded and closed the door. As the car pulled away, his smile slowly faded. His mind drifted back to the conversation he had with Daylen earlier. Arden sighed and leaned his head against the seat. After a moment, he brought out his phone and dialed Ryder’s number. The call was picked on the first ring. “How is my Ardey doing today?” Ryder asked warmly. Arden smiled softly. “Doing well. And you?” “If you’re doing well, then I’m doing well too,” Ryder replied. Arden chuckled. “Can I come over to your office today?” “Of course,” Ryder said. “But I’m quite busy today.” “That’s fine,” Arden replied quickly. “I

Later in the night, after eating dinner, Ryder and Arden returned back to their room. They lay in each other’s arms quietly. Ryder rested on his back, one arm wrapped firmly around Arden’s waist. Arden lay on his side, his head on Ryder’s chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Ryder’s fingers moved slowly, gently stroking Arden’s hair in a calming motion. The room was quiet, filled only with the sound of their breathing. “You have been quiet since I came back,” Ryder said softly. “Is there something wrong?” “So, you mean I am always noisy?” Arden asked as he raised his head slightly to look at Ryder. Ryder smiled and kissed his forehead. “That’s not what I mean. You are always lively, but now you’re extremely quiet.” Arden went silent again. He lowered his head back to Ryder’s chest, his fingers gripping Ryder’s shirt lightly. “Ryder,” Arden said after a long pause, “what if one day you find out a shameful secret about me?” Ryder frowned slightly. “How d

“When will you ever get things done properly?” Dinte yelled again. “You are a fucking failure,” he said as he pointed his index finger at him. Carlos stared at him as he clenched and unclenched his hands. “I didn’t fail. I just didn’t think that—” Before he could complete his sentence, Dinte slammed his palm hard on the table. “Think what?” Dinte snapped. “You think Ryder won’t be that smart?” He scoffed and ran his hand through his hair. “You know, I never really had any fucking hope in you. From the very first day your useless mother brought you into this world, I knew you were a fucking failure.” Dinte walked up to him and pushed his head backward. “And you just proved it to me,” Dinte said coldly as he turned and walked back to his chair. “Get out.” Carlos turned and walked toward the door. Just as he placed his hand on the handle, Dinte spoke again. “Until you make yourself useful, don’t fucking visit me.” Carlos clenched his fists and walked out without sayin

Kellan opened his eyes slowly and sat up on the bed. A dull ache spread across his body the moment he moved. His ribs hurt and his jaw hurt. Even his head felt heavy. He lifted a hand and touched the side of his face gently, hissing when pain shot through him. Before he could fully process his surroundings, a smell drifted into his nose. It was the smell of food. Kellan frowned. He hadn’t ordered anything. And he was very sure he lived alone. He swung his legs off the bed and stood up, steadying himself for a moment before walking out of the room. As he followed the scent, his confusion only grew. It was coming from the kitchen. Kellan walked down the short hallway and stepped into the kitchen. That was when he saw him. Kyle stood by the counter, wearing an apron like he owned the place. He was busy stirring something on the stove, completely relaxed, as though this was his home and not Kellan’s. Kellan stared. “You are still here?” Kellan asked flatly. Kyle turned s

Arden slowly opened his eyes. He realized that he was no longer at the penthouse but inside a moving car. For a moment, he felt confused. Then he turned his head to the left and saw Ryder driving. Ryder glanced at him briefly before returning his eyes to the road. “You are awake finally,” Ryder said with a small smile. Arden rubbed his eyes and sat up properly. “Are we heading to the mansion?” Ryder nodded. As soon as Arden straightened up, his stomach growled loudly. He froze for a second, clearly embarrassed. Right. He hadn’t eaten since yesterday evening. With everything that had happened, hunger had been the last thing on his mind, but now it was impossible to ignore. Arden raised his head and looked at Ryder, who was focused on driving. Ryder’s expression was calm, but there were faint dark circles under his eyes. Should I tell him? Arden thought. Or wait until we get to the mansion and eat? He bit his lower lip and turned to face the window. Forget it. I’ll e

Kellan wiped his face slowly and laughed weakly. “You think beating me will change anything?” Ryan leaned closer, his voice calm but cold. “This isn’t Ryder asking anymore.” Kellan’s smile faded slightly. “He is in our group penthouse,” Kellan finally said. Ryder didn’t wait to hear anything else. He turned sharply and walked out of the club. People moved out of his way as he passed through the crowd. His face was dark and unreadable. He walked straight to the car and slid into the driver’s seat. Corner rushed after him. “Boss, let me drive you there,” he said quickly. “No,” Ryder replied simply. He started the engine and sped off before Corner could say another word. ~~~~~~~ Back inside the club, the noise had dropped slightly. Ryan bent down and helped Kellan sit on one of the couches near the bar. Kellan winced as he lowered himself, holding his ribs. Ryan studied his face. His lips were split and one eye was already swelling. “You can go after him,” Kellan
